During a developer panel at PAX 2012, Gearbox announces they have separated the Brother in Arms series from the Furious 4 installment and instead will now treat the game as a standalone new IP project.
The decision was due to the game no longer fitting into the Brother in Arms series universe after the constant development changes had been done.
Quote:
Randy Ptichford said that as the game's developers "pushed the gameplay loop, they got into a place that got away from the core" of the Brothers In Arms franchise. Since then, Pitchford said, "it's evolved even farther, and it needed to be unshackled" from the brand.

While Gearbox didn't reveal any new details regarding some of the recent changes to the game, they do have plans to "reintroduce" the game during a Gearbox Community Day which will occur later this year at Dallas, Texas.
