A sequel to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was in development by 38 Studios before its finical problems crippled the company and their subsidiary studio of Big Huge Games.
The sequel would have been developed by Big Huge Games studio. Very few details were revealed but Big Head Games would have been the developers, the game itself was in pre-production stage, and the basis for new features were to be based on complaints generated by reviews from the first game.

Joystiq’s sources say that “elements tested for the sequel were higher graphics quality across the board, no loading screens between zones, expanded and improved combat animations, fewer branching quests and greater effect on the world by players.”

As of now 38 Studios still owns rights to the cancelled project and series but is expected to hand over the rights to the government of Rhode Island as part of its bankruptcy requirements. EA is rumored to be ready to purchase the series once the government of RI opens up bidding for the property.
