In an interview with Kotaku, Valve reveals new info in regards to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive while also stressing how the game isn't being viewed as a "Counter Strike 2" title but more of an extension of past games in the series.

The main writer for Valve, Chet Faliszek, explained the key differences between CS: GO and the idea of the downloadable title being Counter-Strike 2 by saying:

Quote:
"A lot of Counter-Strike: GO is taking Counter-Strike: Source and Counter-Strike 1.6 and melding it into a product that every side likes and also expanding the base by putting it out on the consoles," ... "Whereas Counter-Strike 2, at least internally, we think about as something different."
Some of the new changes besides the reworked classic maps and new 5v5 mode are a casual mode allowing players to buy weapons and equipments without worrying about having enough in-game funds and match-making servers will be supported and run by Valve for all platforms.

One of Valve's main goals for the game is trying to bring back the competitive players from CS 1.6 who refused to move onto CS Source while also regaining former counter strike players that have switched from PC to console gaming.

The classic maps were also redesigned due to former players and Valve themselves realizing the maps were not balanced enough to support competitive matches.

Quote:
The Valve guys describe two of the goals for GO as lowering the skill floor—making it easier for newbies to have fun with game, hence the casual mode—and raising the skill ceiling—making meaningful, subtle changes to maps and mechanics that only pro-level players will notice and appreciate.
The PS3 version was confirmed to have keyboard and mouse support and allows cross-platform support to go along with PC and MAC players being on the same servers.

The game is scheduled for a 2012 release date on the PC, Mac, Xbox Live, and PSN.

Quick News Round-Up:
1) The PC division of EA Sports is currently involved in a huge mess after customers are demanding refunds for the PC version of Tiger Woods 12 after finding out besides the sloppy job done with the port, the multiplayer portion of the game was removed so that the company could charge it as a separate game. The PC demo for FIFA 12 is even worse for the company after it was found out to not run if FIFA 11 files were detected or in some cases doesn't run at all regardless what is on the hard drive.

2) Gamestop announces they will be launching their own Android-supported gaming tablet next year and will include a controller to support certain games. Gamestop also announced they are currently working with developers to create exclusive titles for the tablet while the company itself is testing out their distribution services to support the upcoming tablet.

3) Kid Icarus for the Nintendo 3DS has been delayed from an original late 2011 release date to now a TBA 2012 date after the company announced the development team needs more time to work and polish the game. To make up for the delay, Nintendo has teamed up with an animation company in Japan to create a mini-series of animated Kid Icarus episodes that will be available for free on the 3DS video service.
