Kotaku's hands-on demo and impressions with the Lollipop Chainsaw game at Gamescom reveals some new gameplay details and info with the majority occurring in the school section of the game.

Overall impression shows the game being a comedic and cheerful take on the zombie-based genre with the cell-shading and art style being a huge reason.

The game start with the main character named Juliet Starling having her birthday occur on the same day as a zombie outbreak at school. Her main stockpile of weapons include the choice between using her legs to attack, pom-poms, and a chainsaw.

Gameplay-wise, the game is full of comic style gore with zombies exploding into colorful glitter when killed and dialogue containing insults given to the player and to zombies.

The game also has quests to help save classmates who haven't turned into zombies with different rewards and outcomes. The only main ally revealed from the start is her boyfriend's head attached to the chainsaw that gives out clues and tips.

Quote:
Juliet has a few allies at San Romero. Her boyfriend, Nick, is always by her side. He's the disembodied head that Juliet hangs on her hip. He's capable of helping Juliet in still unexplained ways. The game's loading screen teased an action called "Nick's Roulette," which requires a "Nick Ticket" to employ apparently, but reps for the developer didn't go into detail on Nick's role in the game.

Lollipop Chainsaw's heroine can also choose to save her fellow classmates—the ones that haven't been turned into zombies yet—for various rewards. Save a student from a zombie attack and they may shower her with coins and stars. The former collectible was not detailed during our demo, but the game's stars are used to fill up Juliet's Star Meter, which powers a devastating, candy colored super attack.
Boss fights reveal how the zombie outbreak started and occured with each boss having a specific role in the story.

The game is still schedule for a TBA date in 2012 on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Quick News Round-Up:

1) Namco semi-rebooting the Ridge Racer series after announcing the developers of the FlatOut series, Bugbear, are currently developing the next game in the series Ridge Racer Unbounded. The game is set to mesh the Ridge Racer style with the FlatOut and Burnout gameplay style although Namco also announced the reboot would only occur for this game as the next official Ridge Racer game will revert back to the traditional style.

2) At Gamescom, Blizzard explains their "Titan" project does not have anything to do with anything related to the Starcraft series and is not a Starcraft MMO as rumors have stated. Their current priority for Starcraft II is to work on the expansion packs although a MMO project could start once all their current projects are done.

3) Chris Lewis, one of the Vice Presidents from Microsoft, hints Microsoft will continue support of the Xbox 360 once the next Xbox console is released similar to rumors of Nintendo doing the same with the Wii and Sony with their systems. He also admitted the company learned from the mistake of killing off the original Xbox too quickly while revealing Kinect would become the main reason for the continued support.
