The lack of Alan Wake news at E3 was explained by Remedy Studios who explained that the project itself hasn't been approved by Microsoft. Original leaks had the game being set as a downloadable title being called Alan Wake: Night Springs.
Apparently Microsoft was unaware the project was being worked on and only learned of the project being in development after leaks about the game started to hit the internet. By the time Microsoft knew of the project, it was too late for them to add it as part of their E3 press conference due no press package being completed for the game at the time.
While Microsoft owns the IP, Remedy Studios has been working on the XBLA game for a while and wanted to get as much of the game done before requesting funding from Microsoft and having Microsoft started to make changes to the project.
