Until CoD and such like die (which isn't for a very long time) all these other franchises and series are going to go all "dark and gritty" one by one to try and get a similar fan base and sales figures. Pretty soon games will be as varied and as colourful as a pair of identicle twin emos.
I see nothing wrong with this SSX. Infact, I see it as a positive thing. It's been the exact same for ten years now and a change was needed. The new look has nothing to do with CoD or anything like that. Nothing can stay the same forever and SSX is no different. For all we know, EA could just be trying out something new with the new look.

Shigeru Miyamoto did the same thing with Zelda. Everyone was acting like it was the end of the world when the first images of Wind Waker were released, but the game was actually pretty damn good and the looked carried on for a few more games but nobody complained about it, then it went to the "dark and gritty" look with Twilight Princess and again, nobody complained. Infact, everyone wet themselves when the first images of Twilight Princess were released, and I know for sure that the look of it had nothing to do with CoD, Emo Kids or "but every game is like that now".

But I digress a bit, the way to be successful in the computer games industry, and I guess in any industy, is to no be afraid to try new things. Be risky and just go for it. EA are definitely not scared to try new things and personally, I think their risks pay off.

Also, with a name like "Deadly Descents" you can't really expect happy sunshines and crazy characters with real life environments. And they couldn't have made it a separate game as they already have the SSX series. Why would they make a snowboarding game not be part of their snowboarding series just because it looks different?

But anyway, it's very clear that your doing the whole "judging a book by it's cover" thing, but just like Wind Waker, "Deadly Descents" might turn out to be a really good game.

But yeah, like I said, I see nothing wrong with the new SSX and I actually think it looks and sounds interesting, and after I read more and see more of the game, I'll probably be able to tell if I'll buy it or not. But at the moment, I think I very well may get the game, but we'll see.
