I 100% agree with you, though. Loved Tricky and SSX3. Have both for PS2 (Tricky was my first PS2 game). The game should be up-beat and bright. They could throw in a few "serious"/"gritty" portions, maybe in a career and a few tracks or something, but if the game's overtone is all doom and gloom I'm not sure how I'll feel about it.
But we don't know if that was just a trailer to make it look "cool" and "modern". Could be one character's introduction and others will have different personalities (wacky, colorful, etc). Which, if that's the case, it'll be fine.
