The reason for the video distortion was that WCW and Ric Flair had lawsuits against each other at that time. It got settled with WCW reclaiming posession of the belt and Flair being paid his $25,000 deposit, plus interest, which equaled to $38,000.

After that, Flair used one of the WWF World Tag Team title belts, in which they video distorted, until Flair won the WWF World title at the Royal Rumble in January 1992.
