JUNE 28, 2004 - MONDAY NIGHT RAW

It's the last show of the first half of 2004, and King of the Ring fallout is sure to occur. Plus, the first matches for Vengeance are announced and a king is crowned!

Our opening contest is a ten-man tag-team match featuring Tommy Dreamer, A-Train, Rikishi, and the Playboys taking on La Resistance's Rob Conway and Sylvan Grenier and Natural Born Thrillers Chuck Palumbo, Mark Jindrak, and Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli. The heels use quick tags for the first several minutes to isolate first Rikishi then Lance Cade. Eventually, A-Train makes a hot tag and he, Val, and Tommy work over Conway. The match evens out eventually, and it ends with Jindrak hitting Train with Splash Mountain for the win.

After the break, "Whatever" by Our Lady Peace hits the speakers, and Chris Benoit comes out to the ring wearing his half of the WWE Tag Team Titles. Inside the ring, a throne, a scepter, a crown, and a briefcase are waiting. Jim Ross informs us that the briefcase is Benoit's "Money In The Bank." By winning King of the Ring, he now owns the contract inside the briefcase which earns him a shot at any title at any time he pleases. The Crippler King enters the squared circle and picks up the briefcase. He looks at the ornate royal items in front of him, blows his nose on the throne and walks off with his contract. "Bah Gawd King, what disrespect! Chris Benoit just blew his nose on decades of tradition! What kind of psychopath is our King?"

Up next is a triple-threat match pitting Lance Storm against Luther Reigns against William Regal. Young Reigns seems a bit out of his element against the two wily veterans, and eventually he eats the Power of the Punch as Regal walks away victorious.

Backstage, Damien cuts a brief promo, challenging Shelton Benjamin to a match at Vengeance. Shelton handed Damien his only loss and he's going to avenge it in four weeks. Pretty good promo for a pretty unproven commodity. JR announces that Shelton has accepted. The match is on!

These two rivals are on opposite sides of the following six-man tag match as Shelton teams with his World's Greatest Tag Team partner Charlie Haas and Edge against Ministry members Damien, Big Show, and Kane. Edge and Damien carry most of the match, and the fans get a brief showdown between Shelton and Damien that Shelton controls until Big Show tags in. Shelton tags Edge back in, who puts Show away with the Edgecution for the win.

Edge grabs a microphone and tells Undertaker that he just beat one of Taker's proteges. Taker got lucky last night when he took Edge for his Last Ride. That's not going to be the case at Vengeance. Taker, I want a rematch!

World Champion Kurt Angle is up next in non-title action against Rene Dupree in what should be a solid technical encounter. Unfortunately, Kurt's still phoning it in, so it's not the match it could be. Eventually, Dupree tags out to the Angle Lock.

Backstage, United States Champion Rob Van Dam is doing his trademark stretching routine. He's up next after the break in a title defense against the King of the Ring Chris Benoit!

RVD and Benoit put on a tremendous contest with lots of near-falls and high spots. Eventually, RVD heads to the top rope and hits the Five-Star Frogsplash! He looks like he's about to successfully defend his title when Benoit's partner Chris Jericho enters the ring and clamps RVD in the Walls of Jericho! The referee calls for the DQ as Canadian Violence continue to pummel the US Champion. Out of nowhere, the Manbeast Rhyno rushes down the aisle. He goes toe-to-toe with Benoit, then clotheslines Jericho out of the ring to stand beside RVD.

And now for our main event. It's a fatal fourway to determine a new #1 contender for Kurt Angle's World Title. Jericho and Rhyno remain in the ring after the last segment, and they're joined by the respective leaders of the Ministry and the Natural Born Thrillers - Undertaker and Sean O'Haire. Solid match all around with everybody getting in their offense. Eventually, O'Haire picks up the big win via the Prophecy on Rhyno. Guess that means Undertaker's free to accept Edge's challenge.

Eric Bischoff appears on the TitanTron and makes the match official - Kurt Angle will defend the World Title against Sean O'Haire at Vengeance!
