Fayette County, Georgia police are investigating Benoit's house following the discovery of the bodies. Lieutenant Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department reported to ABC News that it was being investigated as a "possible double murder-suicide". Investigators believe that Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend and then himself sometime on Monday although the cause is unknown.

Fox News is reporting "Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being investigated as a murder-suicide" and "WAGA reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend, and then himself sometime Monday." [85]
