**Rate the Music: Week 22**
Yay, we're back. July has been cooking. Quite literally in some cases. And it's not much better here as we got ourselves some of the hottest tunes of the gaming universe up in this bitch. Well, sometimes. Never let it be said that we don't put our contenders through the ringer and give it all of our honesty. We're trying to build an elite playlist after all. So, does last week's contribution from X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse qualify for such an honor?
One-Winged Angel (Final Fantasy 7) - 8.71 Aquatic Ambience (Donkey Kong Country) - 8.66 At Doom's Gate (Doom) - 8.375 Guile Stage Theme (Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo) - 8.25 Go Straight (Streets of Rage 2) - 8 Bloody Tears (Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest) - 7.85 Anything But Tangerines (Earthworm Jim 2) - 7.75 Green Hill Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog) - 7.72 Rainbow Road (Mario Kart 64) - 7.71 Fight Against Smithy (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars) - 7.2 Halo (Halo: Combat Evolved) - 7.125 Spark Mandrill Stage (Mega Man X) - 7 Act 2 Part 2 (Ninja Gaiden) - 6.66 Ozar Midrashim (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver) - 6.6 Breeze - In Monochrome Night (Silent Hill 3) - 6.25 Big Apple, 3AM (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Turtles in Time) - 6.16 Apocalypse Battle (X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse) - 5.75 Still Alive (Mirror's Edge) - 5.5 The Instinct (Killer Instinct) - 5.42 Heaven (The Impossible Game) - 4.16 The Jack Attack (You Don't Know Jack: Television) - 3.57 Meh, a 5.75 isn't going to cut it. It's barely above average in the grand scheme of things. It will have to settle for the lower tier, at least for now. That tier can get even more depressing depending on how things go. Of course, the upper crust can get even more upper. Let's see if this week's tune has a shot. We go from superheroes to fantasy for this game as the 16-era is once again upon us with a well-known entry in the RPG arena. Believe me when I say that I debated for a long time as to which piece to settle on for the pick from this game's soundtrack, as almost everything it sends your way is a solid choice. But I think I've got just the selection. Here, from the hit game Chrono Trigger, is Secret of the Forest... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/j6VoS1RlA6Q?si=1C3dYMlz4kUpFDM0" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> Chew on that one for a bit and make your call. Are we listening to a top tier GOAT track? That's for you to decide. Until next week! |
This one is great. You're right in that you can't really go wrong with the entire soundtrack. Sometimes it reminds me slightly of water worlds in Donkey Kong Country.
This, for me, is a 9. |
Overrated song, game and soundtrack.

Toss up between a 7 and 8 and went with the 8 for my vote.
Its a really great song for a great game but for a good chunk of it I was wondering why it sounded vaguely similar to another video game song. Wasn't until mid-way listening to it that I suddenly remembered the Aquatic Ambience song from Donkey Kong Country game. Fun fact, most I ever played of this game was maybe a few minutes tops via a ROM several years ago. |
