Should Rey Mysterio hang it up?

I think so. Dude gets injured when he so much as thinks about wrestling.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-12-2013 01:35 PM

He and WWE must be thinking about it. But he's been such a big player for them I think they'd want to get him one last feud in. The problem is, as you said, as of late he's been getting injured almost instantly after returning so they can't build anything up for him.

Xero 03-12-2013 02:02 PM

Yes. He should have years ago. I can't even think of any match I'd really like to see him in even from the past five years.

Shawn Michaels
Chris Jericho
John Morrison
CM Punk
Dolph Ziggler

Emperor Smeat 03-12-2013 03:07 PM

Yes. He can barely last a few weeks or months before his knees get injured again.

Its possible he could become a part-timer but even then it would only be a matter of time before his knees got re-injured.

The Condor 03-12-2013 03:24 PM

It's time. A going away match is probably in the cards in the coming months, or at least it should

whiteyford 03-12-2013 03:39 PM

He'll go the route of 'Taker/HBK/ Triple H and wrestle when he feels like it, probably Wrestlemania season, I don't really have a problem with that as long as he's getting guys over.

Jordan 03-12-2013 07:38 PM

GIVE IT UP REY YOUR DONE

Triple Naitch 03-12-2013 07:40 PM

As much as I'd hate to see it, yeah. Give him one last feud though.

CSL 03-12-2013 07:41 PM

No. Always happy to see him working with pretty much anybody.

CSL 03-12-2013 07:41 PM

though that's the "do you want him to" answer. No idea if he should or not, only he knows that

Juan 03-12-2013 07:53 PM

CSL nails it, as usual.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-12-2013 08:05 PM

Shame that's all he's nailing.

Rey's the goods. Hoping he retires for my Pink Slip Pool.

Then again, knowing he should and actually doing it are often worlds apart when it comes to wrestling. Flair probably knows he should retire.

CSL 03-12-2013 08:52 PM

normally I don't like the "they should go" stuff but with a guy like Rey, whose style is based so much around his mobility/not really being able to take shortcuts, I'd like to think he'd know when he's banged up enough that it either adversely affects his performances too much or just isn't worth it anymore. He should be more than well off enough financially (unlike Flair) and has nothing whatsoever left to prove.

dronepool 03-12-2013 09:10 PM

Yes, but I say that because I was never liked him much or disliked him, he was always just like "oh ok, it's Rey" to me. He could have good matches but lately he's been the filler superstar and I wouldn't miss his character.

Curd 03-14-2013 01:17 AM

Yes, but not before a victory circuit in ROH to give the locker room some mark-out moments!

NormanSmiley 03-14-2013 01:44 PM

i dont think rey can go the whole partt ime route to put guys over, because he can only play a face, and how "shocking " is it ever for a heel to beat up a guy rey's size? not very

Mr. Nerfect 03-15-2013 06:46 PM

CSL is correct. Rey is so good in the ring, my personal opinion would be to see him stay (but I don't mind him being kept off TV every now and then to keep him fresh), but he knows what state his body is in.

Would love to see Sin Cara vs. Rey Mysterio in a passing the torch match. Let them have one match at SummerSlam, since it's right near Rey's hometown, and have Rey go over there. Then raise the stakes for WrestleMania XXX and have them face each other in a Mask vs. Mask Match. If Rey wants to retire after that, let him, but there's nothing to say he can't keep working in the WWE without a mask.

Mr. Nerfect 03-15-2013 06:47 PM

Really want to see Rey Mysterio vs. Hunico. Fuck that would be good.

Fignuts 03-20-2013 03:11 AM

So according to the front page, officials really want Mysterio to leave OR they really want Mysterio to stay.

Fantastic journalism guys.

Mr. Nerfect 03-21-2013 09:51 AM

They want Mysterio to stay. He's a tremendous worker and he sells a ton of merch. There's absolutely no reason for them to want him to leave. The only thing is that they might get a bit annoyed that he gets hurt a lot -- but working such a crazy pace forever kind of does that to you. Rey has been in the WWE for like 11 years now. Keep the guy off television and have him return around SummerSlam time and give him something really special to do.

James Steele 03-21-2013 01:19 PM

Rey Mysterio vs Sin Cara would make for a great secondary main event at SummerSlam. Sin Cara has really improved and adjusted. Makes you wonder how over he could have gotten if they wouldn't have thrown him to the wolves from the start.

Isn't that kinda the problem? How can you plan something special for a guy that's likely to be on the shelf 14 minutes after returning?

Rammsteinmad 03-21-2013 03:54 PM

Love Rey Mysterio, and the guys had a great career, but I really wouldn't be too bothered if he "retired" now (as much as anyone can truly retire in pro wrestling). The guy is just always getting injured now, I guess for his own sake he should give it up.

dingdongyo 03-22-2013 09:09 PM

his last few runs have been kinda turds. i just don't see anything special about him anymore.

the whole "one last run" to a "retirement moment" thing would be cool though, i suppose. and it would def make money. but it has to stop there, no matter how many goofs keep crying for "one more run" after that. otherwise, yet another schtick will get burnt out and no one will care about anyone else's "retirement."

my opinion is the most important one.

So you think they want him gone forever? Yeah right.

Shisen Kopf 03-23-2013 12:37 AM

He might as well. WWE has the top Mexican face in Of the River. Plus Sin Cara is pretty much the same thing. Back to selling oranges by the freeway Rey Rey.

Sin Cara is amazing. He came into the WWE with like no time to climatize himself, probably because everyone worth a damn in the WWE thought that he was so fucking good he didn't need it. Yeah, he made a few botches here or there, and they've made a few mistakes with his presentation (the mood lighting was fucking terrible), but he's gotten really good at the WWE style with the right opponent. He's off the radar at the moment, but I would not be surprised if the WWE re-pushes him really hard really soon.

Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara at SummerSlam would be pretty much perfect for both guys. I actually think they should give Rey the win in that match, and then have Sin Cara sort of lament the loss for a while afterwards. At WrestleMania XXX you can do Mysterio vs. Sin Cara II -- Mask vs. Mask.

Not at all. Not sure anything I said would infer that.

What I was getting at was: how much stock can you put on a guy like Rey? How much time can you spend planning "something special" for a guy that's highly likely not to last long enough for the payoff?

If anything, they should bring him back for something quite run of the mill/low key, into the team with Sin Cara so he can share the workload, a tag feud/title chase and if he manages to make it through that you plan that "something special".

Mr. Nerfect 03-23-2013 10:14 AM

You misinterpreted what I was saying. I said that the WWE should give him time off to rest his body (reduce his workload), and then bring him back for like a special match to make a star and to make his appearances actually mean something.

XL 03-23-2013 10:19 AM

I see.

Mr. Nerfect 03-23-2013 10:20 AM

I can see why you got what you did, I should have been clearer.

XL 03-23-2013 10:23 AM

No worries. Hug?

Mr. Nerfect 03-23-2013 10:45 AM

Fuck yeah. Count me in.

RiX1024 03-24-2013 11:12 AM

I'd say yes because it's time for him to retire or at least give him a part time role to keep himself healthy or give him a mentor role to Sin Cara than tag with him. He's still popular with the kids and sells a lot of merchandise but give him one more run and see how that goes.
