I still don't have a Playstation 5 so I'm probably going to miss out on the early access when it drops this summer, but it still looks good. The Cammy design is fucking sweet and Zangief busting out a Jackhammer puts a smile on my face.

What is even the story? I didn't really find the narratives of 4 and 5 to be particularly interesting, and a lot of characters didn't really seem to serve a purpose as a result. What's everyone's take so far?

I actually wanted to make a thread on this but just never got around to it. Really excited by what I've seen so far.

Marked out hard for cammy having that move from the animated movie.

I think I'm going to main Cammy this time around, unless there ends up being a character like Falke from Street Fighter V where they're easy to control.

Juri was my secondary in Street Fighter 4. She was wild and chaotic and wasn't a complete chore to learn. They changed too much with her in Street Fighter 5 for me to bother. I did like how her Pinwheel Kick was changed to be more anti-air, though. I probably could have tried harder to learn her, or anyone else for that matter, but once I got the hang of Falke, I didn't see the need. If they get her back to what she was like in the fourth game, I'll likely give her a go. If nothing else, she's always a great design for clothing.

Of course, the new characters are also tempting. Like you pointed out, Marisa looks cool. It's like they saw Rhonda Rousey and said, "Could be beefier". Not sure how intimidating a dude called JP is going to be though, but it's good how we're getting more than just 4 new characters from the beginning.

Might be foolish optimism, but I'm still hoping the last 4 characters from the leak are in the game as hidden characters, or even this game's equivalent of the 4 kings.

Street Fighter 6 features three overarching game modes: Fighting Ground, World Tour, and Battle Hub.[1] Fighting Ground contains local and online versus battles as well as training and arcade modes, all featuring similar 2D fighting gameplay to the previous games in the series, in which two fighters use a variety of attacks and special abilities to knock out their opponent. World Tour is a single-player story mode featuring a customizable player avatar exploring 3D environments with action-adventure gameplay. Battle Hub acts as an online lobby mode, using customizable player avatars from the World Tour mode, with other features set to be revealed in the future.[1]

The main fighting gameplay of Street Fighter 6 is based around the Drive Gauge, a system designed to encourage player creativity. The gauge can be used for five different techniques, requiring players to choose which to prioritize. Most of the Drive Gauge's mechanics are based on previously existing mechanics from previous Street Fighter mainline games, such as Parry, Focus Attack, EX move, etc.[1] The game features three control types: the "classic" control scheme has a six-button layout that functions similarly to previous entries, the "modern" control scheme assigns special moves to a single button combined with a directional input,[1] and the "dynamic" control scheme, which is only allowed in certain parts in the Fighting Ground mode, but is not allowed in online battles, uses a single button auto attack layout, based on what range is performed.

The use of multiple super combos returns from the Street Fighter Alpha sub-series, also counting the Ultra Combo W variant from Ultra Street Fighter IV. However, each character only has three super combos based on their respective level gauge. For example, Ryu's Shinku Hadoken, Shin Hashogeki and Shin Shoryuken can only be used at Level 1, 2 and 3 respectively.[2]

A real-time commentary system is a brand new feature in Street Fighter 6, where English and/or Japanese play-by-play and color commentators watch the action in real-time, giving it a more tournament-style feel.

Dee Jay making a comeback is a surprise. I'm going to be a bit of a buzzkill here as I've never really put much importance on having the "original" 8.

The game looks outstanding. I love zangief has more of an Eddie Hall physique instead of his usual bodybuilder look. And two grapplers at launch is also dope. I lean toward either zoners or command grabs so it looks like I'll have a ton of options

I was thinking about this and tekken and with mk12 coming out this yeah i dunno if ill pick up either of these. My backlog is absurd and i definitely cant manage multiple fighting games at the same time.

I think though all 3 will be the only games of this gen from these franchises. The live service model makes a ton of sense for sports/fighting games. One frequently updated game across a consoles life span seems like the best way to go. We might see all the major titles dropping in the same year going forward. Seems possible at the least.

I feel like they could have kept more of the original themes in there while still making it sound fresh with the urban beats tone.

At the very least, some of them still sound character-appropriate, like Dhalsim and Honda, but, yeah I'm not sure some of them are going to become iconic.

On the plus side, Juri's theme is MUCH better than what she got in Street Fighter 5.
