Just keep thinking of that scene in The Abyss where Mar Elizabeth-Mastrantonio is yelling at Ed Harris

"YOU DROP YOUR WEIGHTS AND START BACK NOW!!!"

but he just lays there waiting for death.

I don't get this game, seems like there's way way too much hype behind it. I can't envision a scenario where it's not disappointing

Frank Drebin 11-30-2020 11:39 PM

I think the hype is simply because its the same studio that did Witcher 3 and the game looks like its checking all the right boxes.

They did so well with Witcher 3 not just in that its one of the best games of all time but they gave away alot of stuff for free and did a bunch of updates to better the game. Stuff that people actively wanted them to change which made alot of people happy. Even the paid expansions were massive and added so much to the game. They weren't just thrown out there for a quick buck.

Tl;dr

CD Project Red has done something very rare these days and is a studio that people trust to deliver a great product based on previous experiences.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-01-2020 05:41 AM

My peen is ready for this; don't blue-balls us again, CDPR.

It's kinda like the Skyrim or Mass Effect of today. These type of games just don't come along too often. People can overhype themselves into oblivion, for sure, just keep your expectations grounded in reality. The game has been talked about for nearly 10 years now I think? Some people are going to 100% disappoint themselves.

The RPG elements are great, the environment appears to be varied and populated, the story seems interesting AF (to me at least).

I havent played it yet, but calling it the Skyrim of today makes me like it less, because Skyrim was a huge dissapointment to me They rolled back a lot of amazing things they did right in Morrowind and only improved on the combat. I hope this is not the case of Cyberpunk, Witcher 3 was pretty damn good.

drave 12-02-2020 07:53 AM

Nothing about your post was surprising, given your aversion to Zelda in the other thread some time ago.

Skyrim is amazing.

Skyrim is amazing.

Its not a bad game, but compared to Morrowind, it is nothing. Morrowind continues to be the top of the Elder Scrolls Series. Morrowind took what daggerfall did and improved on it. Skyrim (and Oblivion) just dumbed down what was done right in Morrowind and Daggerfall. The only thing they improved was the combat.

drave 12-02-2020 02:53 PM

Which, as a raging lunatic, was the most critical aspect.

Played Morrowind as well. It is great but too convoluted and I tend to get bored after about 10-15 hours in.

That looks more like 2037 rather than 2077. I reckon 2077 to be a lot more "futuristic" looking than that shit.

I'm a semi fan of Elder Scrolls Online...dunno why all the hate.

rez 12-06-2020 02:07 AM

they got it right where blizzard fucked up

Frank Drebin 12-07-2020 11:56 AM

Anyone have thoughts as to the launch? Is it going to be a No Man's Sky type cluster or will this be the greatest thing since Witcher 3?

Yeah ESO gets way too much hate. I think it's because it tried so hard to be an MMO but came off as a really huge single player ES game that has other people playing at the same time. Either way ESO is absolutely massive and has the most amount of content and if you treat it as a single player game you'll never know that you aren't playing a mainline entry in the series.

Sepholio 12-07-2020 02:20 PM

Not liking the sound of some of the early reviews. Short, buggy and poorly optimized. Ruh-roh.

The optimization seems like a huge issue. It was lagging and having screen tears on a PC with a rtx3080 and it was only running in 1080p with ray tracing turned OFF. That doesn't sound good.

Honestly think with all the delays they should have just held onto it until next year and got it perfect.

Sitting on a 91 right now over at Metacritic.

Everyone loves it so with Gamespot being the notable outfit giving it a 7 so far.

https://www.theverge.com/2020/12/10/...-google-stadia

"It may be hard to believe, but the Google Stadia version of Cyberpunk 2077 may be the best way to play for most players right now. Unless you have a 20 or 30 Series Nvidia GPU or comparable AMD card or you were lucky enough to get a PS5 or Xbox Series X / S, this game will not be performing anywhere close to how it was designed to. That means going the cloud gaming route is a surprisingly viable option if you’re concerned about performance and you also want the added benefits Stadia provides, like playing across multiple devices and not having to download the game or any subsequent updates to get right to playing.

I’ve played through the first few hours of the game on Stadia, and I’ve been very impressed with how well Cyberpunk 2077 is holding up. Unlike the console versions, the Stadia one has graphical presets to prioritize either resolution or frame rate. And it runs smoothly and looks almost indistinguishable from the console version in my experience on a 50 Mbps-plus internet connection, even over Wi-Fi. (I’ve also been testing the game on PS5.)"

RP 12-10-2020 08:27 PM

I havent played it, but i've watched a few streams for a bit and it looks fantastic.

rez 12-11-2020 12:48 AM

I haven't crashed yet. few hours in

rez 12-11-2020 12:57 AM

All out combat sucks on a controller kinda tho... I might play on PC with keyboard/mouse for intense situations. I heard you can't bind different keys tho* I much prefer arrow keys to WASD since I mouse with the left hand

*PC, yes...edit a file and I heard it works...have done it for past games but no local files for Stadia...heh. I'll have to look into this more.

rez 12-11-2020 01:00 AM

It's hard to get used to since I've always played FPS on computer, rather than console. At least you aren't forced to be first person while driving because it's awkward af

Mine arrived yesterday. Huge box for such a little statue.

drave 12-12-2020 09:41 AM

PLayed about 8 hours in or so. Holy fuck man.

The storytelling is some next level shit, and done very well so far. Combat is pretty good, but AI seems kinda dumb SOMETIMES. IMO - stealth is fun AF, but you definitely have to level it up for it to be more effective. Gunplay is alright. Been playing Destiny 2 recently, and no shooting feels as good as that game, so I'm adjusting.

Just to to the part where things "open up" for you to do whatever you want and there is a ton of choice. The map makes things easy to find, track, etc. Ability to turn all this shit off in the menus is even better.

It could be a lot better looking. I feel like the "current gen" consoles (PS5, XSX) will handle it much better. Two times, my Xbox One X froze for about 10 seconds while loading additional assets, one of those times caused me to have to restart the app. Nothing gamebreaking, and just twice in 8 hours isn't bad.

Some of the areas and models look better than others. The lighting is on point though. Whether the neon signs glowing and buzzing, or the bright shine of the sun, lighting is fantastic.

Music is awesome too. Lotsa variety on the radio stations. An actual very heavy metal station, which is the first one I can recall in any game I've played.

The wait was worth it for me. I've already had to resist starting another character for various reasons, but can see myself doing multiple play throughs.
