WWE is like your Michael Bay movies; style over substance but will make bank.

Mr. Nerfect 06-21-2022 09:04 AM

Lol, nice try.

AEW is like Battlefield Earth.

Mr. Nerfect 06-21-2022 02:29 PM

The latest thing is for AEW fans to defend the lack of depth to the New Japan crossover with telling people to Google someone if they don’t understand them or their motivations. I don’t think they understand that this sort of dense presentation hurts the accessibility of the product though — which is part of what you’re seeing impact the ratings. They’re labelling the fans who don’t bite into this product with a lack of story as “casuals” and CM Punk has given them permission to say that casuals don’t exist and aren’t desirable.

You have AEW defenders literally saying things like “Fuck the casuals.” It’s insane levels of gatekeeping and a great way to be left with a base that isn’t going to be able to justify your product having a platform.

Hardcore AEW fanboys are increasingly leaning on metrics they think make them look good — for example, ticket sales for shows like Forbidden Door. The evidence definitely suggests that these shows are scooped up by scalpers and possibly AEW themselves and the sellout doesn’t measure genuine interest. Forbidden Door tickets are listed on the secondary market for as little as $15.

So now we know the stunning combo of AEW and ROH and NJPW cannot get 1 million viewers, time for Tony to to reach into daddy's pocket again

#1-norm-fan 06-23-2022 09:57 PM

#1 on cable again! Nice!

Sure did. Gotta mask those insecurities in lies. Also, imagine survival being your biggest bragging point.

drave 06-27-2022 01:44 PM

lolwut.

Big Vic 06-27-2022 03:50 PM

Does WWE still crack a million?

Honestly Rampage should have never existed.

Then why lie? Did anyone actually predict they would be dead right now? I think everyone with common sense knew the TBS move where they will be replacing a more popular show than them would hurt, but who has legitimately predicted their death?

They’re under a fifth of the alleged viewership, but make no mistake about it — they are winning this war.

drave 06-28-2022 12:08 PM

i shall start with doing the dance of shame for the rest of my life. :(

Mr. Nerfect 06-28-2022 12:17 PM

Very clever. If you lie on the ground screaming, no one can kick you, right?

drave 06-28-2022 12:40 PM

feel free to kick, if that's what you wanna do

Mr. Nerfect 06-28-2022 12:58 PM

I feel like I should go after a stronger target. But seriously, what pathetic apologetics for them. Why the need to defend these guys with lies?

drave 06-28-2022 02:23 PM

i wasnt aware i was defending shit.

You should go for a target who actually cares man.

Mr. Nerfect 06-28-2022 04:09 PM

1.95 million for the 20 year Cena celebration ep of RAW

Big Vic 06-28-2022 04:32 PM

Surprised Smackdown still gets 2.2 mill.

That’s fucking huge. Got no clue whether or not they got a good show and will be back.

XL 06-29-2022 06:39 AM

That’s down on the week isn’t it? Cena = ratings poison.

I think it’s up about 300k.

XL 06-29-2022 02:41 PM

Nah. Down 36k.

Mr. Nerfect 06-29-2022 05:54 PM

It mustn’t have been mentioned in here. Makes sense that people only want to talk about WWE’s “low numbers” versus AEW’s greatest achievements. Holy shit at WWE getting back to 2 million for Raw. Meanwhile AEW struggles to reach 900k without a third hour.

#1-norm-fan 06-29-2022 06:16 PM

It wasn’t mentioned here so you just assumed it was up 300k?

Is that what was reported on the smart people forum?

It’s usually only slik that’s posts the WWE rating. No commentary. Just the cold hard facts. Or as much as you can call them facts from an outdated, outmoded system. He just didn’t post last week.

It’s their 4th best rating of the year (albeit not quite 2 million).

Wait til Dynamite gets that third hour! 3 mil a week guaranteed.

The last number I could recall is 1.68 million, or something like that. Must have been from two weeks ago. The Cena announcement has seemed to boost ticket sales and the general interest around the product. It might not be onwards and upwards each week, but 2 million for Raw in 2022 is really good for them.

I wonder just how disastrous a third hour would be for Dynamite? I kind of facetiously point out that Rampage is in that third hour slot, but it’s on a different night. A third hour with Dynamite as its own lead-in would be interesting to see.

On one hand, they’ve got that hardcore audience that could will themselves through. But on the other hand — let’s be honest, it’s death.

Back over a million post NJPW

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">AEW Dynamite on TBS last night:<br>1,023,000 viewers<br>P18-49 rating: 0.36<br><br> <a href="https://t.co/1SscdBCpr8">https://t.co/1SscdBCpr8</a> <a href="https://t.co/iw5oD0FSJF">pic.twitter.com/iw5oD0FSJF</a></p>&mdash; Brandon Thurston (@BrandonThurston) <a href="https://twitter.com/BrandonThurston/status/1542601639206469639?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 30, 2022</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Mr. Nerfect 06-30-2022 04:14 PM

I’m genuinely surprised they managed to get over that magic 1 million number. I mean, it’s a pitiful number in context, but a boost is a boost, right? Onwards and upwards for the most popular wrestling in the world!

Damian Rey 2.0 06-30-2022 04:24 PM

Makes sense. The build to forbidden door stunk and they didn’t get the biggest name till the go home show.

Mr. Nerfect 06-30-2022 04:24 PM

Ugh, the coverage is irritating. You’ve got Thurston pointing out that they were #1 in 18-49 for original programming according to Showbuzz. This ignores a whole bunch of stuff on cable, like The Big Bang Theory before it, which destroys it. But he has to go further than that and group it in with network television, and point out that it was #6 if you count that. So it basically got beaten by NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX? Why smudge that in there? So much effort to make something unimpressive sound impressive. I’m glad more and more people are starting to see through this shit.

1.2 for the Blood and Guts hour, so as long as they can put on that kind of match every week they might be able to keep it going. They can do 6v6 special gimmick matches where people take hella bumps, blade, and get injured every week, right?
