That being said...if anybody ever sees NCAA Football 2014 PS3 for sale under $100, let me know! The only release year that still has online roster downloads.

I'm perfectly fine with NCAA F 13 the GOAT. Although I may consider this down the line but my 13' version has tons of content like team builders and such. I would imagine this reboot won't even come close...

rez 02-04-2021 09:58 PM

Sounds like they're not working with the NCAA in anyway for this.

drave 02-05-2021 07:48 AM

No licensing of teams or players last I read.

RP 02-06-2021 05:35 PM

I have the '13 version and its great. No playoffs, but hella cheaper than '14 and every bit as good.

I read they have a license for stadiums and teams since NCAA can't block that.

rez 02-06-2021 09:09 PM

which would be funny if the game bypasses the BCS and current playoff system.

Let's get around the issue of paying the college athletes by making up fictitious colleges and athletes! Genius!!

I get very sinister vibes about this. Feels like EA just trying to go back to selling two football games annually instead of only one, and will prob'ly find a way to charge you for entering the totally not real "students" that graduate up to the NFL for the next year's Madden now. I wouldn't be surprised if you had to open customizable mascots and team colors and helmet designs in card packs now.

I don't trust EA with this, is what I'm saying. Not at all.

drave 02-09-2021 07:39 AM

It isn't EA that keeps them from getting paid though. College athletes aren't allowed to be paid because of the NCAA.

Because a college athlete is having his education paid for by the university, it is expected that the athlete is financially comfortable. As a result, athletes must agree not to take money for things such as sponsorship deals, celebrity appearances, or contact with professional sports personnel.

Gonna take Blue Mountain State to the top.

You seem to be unaware of a whole chunk of context.

The reason why they stopped making NCAA games to begin with was because of the debacle and potential litigation (at the time, the Ed O'Bannon thing was still some news) concerning using OBVIOUS likenesses of the student athletes AND ALSO the possibilities changing the whole idea of them not being able to be compensated in any way for playing. The talking point really picked up around the time Johnny Manziel was hot shit at A&M and literally accepting money for autographs, and everyone on the sports beat was like "What's wrong with that? Maybe we should rethink the whole student athlete thing!" ... same folks who, two years previous, were calling for the "death penalty" at Ohio State for some of the guys trading autographs for tatoos, but I digress.

There are still discussions going on about compensation/pay for athletes, and a settlement in the works for playing. There is apparently still a legal battle for the likeness rights. The NCAA may be changing their stance on the complete shafting of the student athlete, and allow them to get something outside of a scholarship for playing what is ostensibly a semi-pro sport.

Instead of being anywhere in those legal waters, EA just stopped making college football games. On their end, it was "problem solved". If they're unattached, they can't be named and possibly sued out of some of the boatloads of cash they're going to make.

And if the new game doesn't attach itself to NCAA, and totally don't use real students as a basis, then they don't have to compensate anyone for shit, because they're not bound by whatever rulings happen.

I get all that. Doesn't change the fact it's wank and collegiate players get shafted.

Could you imagine "EA Football 2k22" with the LA Footballers, featuring A. Quarterback!

Buy it today!

makes me laugh. Reminds me of back in the back in the day when you could pick up nearly any NBA game and the only person missing was Jordan. It'd always be some generic filler.

rez 02-11-2021 12:05 AM

It'll have all the college teams and their stadiums.

I remember a lot of bandwagon Bulls fans bitching about NBA Jam. They should have just played "Chaos in the Windy City". Meanwhile, I didn't care. Rocked the Cavs all day, even though they were unfairly near the bottom of the league according to that game.

Seriously... Mavs and Timberwolves were the only teams under them?! They weren't quite on their decline yet, and were playoff caliber. Unfortunately, they kept running into the Knicks when they were hot shit and/or Jordan helmed Bulls. Like, imagine having a hard-fought victory over Ewing era Knicks, then your "reward" is facing the Bulls dynasty. That's why I consider myself a "long-suffering fan". One banner in my lifetime satisfies me plenty, no matter what anyone thinks about LeBron.

Stay on target:

I don't trust EA, rez.

I'll believe half of it when I see it, be it teams, stadiums, mascots, whatever. And even then, it's with a wary, suspicious eye for some bullshit monetization and/or some sort of way around "student likeness" compensation. And I'm convinced they're going to try to charge people for graduating created players to Madden on top of the already established $10 price hike for each game on next gen.
