Rate the Game: Week 42
We have concluded yet another chapter in this epic saga we call Rate the Game. Tetris stands out as probably simplest game of this bunch but how well did the little game that could do when stacked against such an impressive pile of games? Let's calculate the average and update the leaderboard and see where Tetris falls:

Gran Turismo (2.3)</option> </select> Well, barring any surprises, Tetris sits among the top 25 and ends up at number 22. It may possibly be the best export out of Russia right next to vodka, Yakov Smirnoff, and Zangief. The blood fests of Mortal Kombat, Doom, Resident Evil, and Quake fall to the mighty Tetriminos. What else do we have in store in the CONTAINER OF DOOM? Let's kick off this week by diving into the unknown one more time. Sorry about the lighting if you're having trouble discerning what it says. We're dealing with some major dreary weather outside this morning. Anyways, if you can't read it the game drawn for this week is Ninja Gaiden (NES). The original title stands as one of the hardest entries in the NES library and I'm sure some of us have the broken controllers to prove it. How about sharing your experiences with the game including your rating? Let's get to slicing. Until next week! |

im a huge action platformer fan and this is a top tier action platformer. 5.
also if this is your jam cyber shadow releases on the 26th and promises to scratch that ninja gaiden itch. |
Can't vote. The challenge of it made me never attempt it and become a Family Man.

Finally beating this sucker after 26 years was one of the few highlights of last year and even then I was a broken and demoralized shell of a man.

The original was hard as fuck, but looking back, it wasn't so much the platforming (even though there were tricky spots) as it was a couple of important design choices/flaws: the fixed enemy spawn points and the section near the end that makes you start a huge chunk over again if you die. I honestly think those two things were a bit of a playtest oversight written off as a feature. |
Good game but too hard for me to play past the first level.

I kind of did use this video as a guide when I finally conquered the game. 'Conquered' might be too strong of a word. |
Never played it. Heard it was too hard.

Crap, the time is almost up and I just realized I hadn't voted. I can't go the full monty here. Virtually aspect of the game is firing on all cylinders, from the presentation, the music, and the control. The challenge towards the end of the game is so unfair, however, that it almost borders on bad design. If you can muster the skill and technique required, though, it's a quality title.
