Overall, the only real complaint I have about the show is the pacing. It feels like it was rushed. Not rushed like Gen:LOCK where it feels like they forgot to explain stuff just to make sure they finished a full season, or rushed in a shitty way like the last season of GoT, but still tried to slide in a lot to try to help sway a green light for more seasons. 9/10 started watching again |
Haven't read the comics so I don't know if things went that quickly in the comics (regarding reveals and showdowns)... but yeah, could be they were just trying to make sure they got those season renewals and now that they got them, the next season will breath a bit more.
i think the pacing is very consistent.
look at ep 1. 4/5 of the ep is a standard super hero ep. that final 1/5 is balls out "wtf is going on." the season is structured that way as a whole too. things move in a traditional way and then it ramps to 100. its the shows modus operandi. |
Yeah, consistently quick. It was like when I watched the first season of Being Human, and then saw the first season of the UK version. The entire first season here was done in about the first five episodes of the original. This felt kinda like the reverse: like there maybe could have been a couple more episodes worth of filler (I hate to phrase it that way, but I think you get what I mean). Part of why it felt like it was rushed is
SPOILER: show I haven't read the comics either, but there have apparently been *tweaks* to the story anyway, so I figure it will prob'ly move in a similar fashion to The Boys where this is/will be some "wait, that didn't happen" divergence or enough little changes to make this series its own continuity. It's not exactly a bad thing, and I don't fault it for it. I'm the person who liked Ready Player One in spite of ALL THE BUTCHERING the film made to the story because, from the outside, I got why the changes were made. And I would have *loved* that movie in a vaccum, but having gone through the book first, I was a little... disappointed when comparing it only because I knew better. I don't want that for this, so I'm not even going to touch the comics. |
i think thats deliberate though. Kirkman is applying what he did on Walking Dead to the superhero genre. by using death (and injury) in this manner his goal is to create a world that has stakes to the violence and for my money it works really well in making not only the action very tense but by making this series stand out as very unique title in the genre.
its fair to say it leaves a lot on the table for some characters that otherwise would have been great to explore but i think what it adds has enough value to justify the method...and in true comic fashion death isnt pemenant in this world as we've seen.

That's actually a perfect contrast, because SPOILER: show That's why I think the pace could have been a little slower. Not snail's pace slow, just enough time to let developments actually develop. |
I guess Im the only one who thought the show wasnt that great?
correct
perhaps there is something wrong with him?
I found the animation really lacking. It was very reminiscent of cartoons from 2 decades ago. The plot was pretty predictable. The characters and relationships were really cliche. So much so that it felt like they just stole other characters and tweaked them slightly. I see alot of people saying that the fight scenes were amazing because of how gory they are but compared to some anime from the 80sand 90s it was just really lacking. The power levels were also really screwed up. The music was great and the voice acting was amazing. They really did good with that but without those two things this series would have been really sub par.

ive never been more happy to disagree with a post in my life. thankfully i enjoyed everything you criticized. season could totally release tomorrow and i be here for it.
Im glad that you were able to enjoy it. Im just offering my opinion on the show.
Thanks for yr. take
i wonder how closely it follows the source material. walking has large divergence...
Yeah.... might check out like the first few issues to see, but I definitely don't want to read ahead...
agreed. i didnt tocuh the walking dead until i was done with the show. same with GoT
GoT I read ahead and found that it helped in knowing who the F was who
I thoroughly enjoyed the series and was hooked from the final sequence of the first episode. The finale was something else. I hope they'll come back for a second season.
