R.I.P Butch Reed at age 66

Apparently Butch had two massive heart attacks in 2021
Very sad. Butch Reed was fucking amazing.

Big Doom fan back in the day. Did not like him in WWE though.

He was really good and underutilized in WWF. If I'm not mistaken he was working through injuries at that time. My best memories of him are also of Doom. Awesome generic team that became memorable as f.

When I think of Butch, yeah his WCW/Doom days were lit.

Match I found awhile back that hit my memory as soon as I saw the thread.

I've always thought that Butch could have had a great run as NWA champ in 85. He ended up in God awful Central States in 86 because his wife wanted him closer to home due to Butch's partying getting out of control. That really killed him as a main event singles star

While not a long match, his match in the tourney vs Savage at Mania 4 was a good showing. The Natural rocked the blonde hair well too! R.I.P.

This is a cool match I posted in an NWA group on the Facebooks. I referred to it as "a Young Tim Storm vs. an Old Butch Reed." It went fairly viral, and there's a TON of cool stuff about the match. For one thing, it was WLW, the promotion was owned by Harley Race, Gordon Solie, and Dave Marquez (same guy who currently owns Championship Wrestling of Hollywood). It was one of the last announcing jobs for Gordon Solie, whose voice was already getting ravaged by throat cancer.

Folks didn't believe that the Tim Storm from this match was the same guy who would become NWA Champion. Someone gave me shit for referring to Butch as "old," to which I said to my own defense It was in reference to where they were in their careers.

And, Dave himself did provide some background into the match. Which was awesome.

Butch Reed's family currently believes that his passing was due to him contracting the coronavirus in mid-January.
