Mortal Kombat 11

Also sounds like the gear system from Injustice 2 is coming to MK. This from a presser that was released shortly after the reveal: Quote:
|
Likely gonna downplay the lootbox thing. Pretty much a bad look now even if it wasn't invasive in Injus2.
|
They really need to make the gear purely cosmetic in this. All the same hyped for the mythos if nothing else.
|
InJus2 had a 'competitive' setting that rendered gear just visual, right?
|
Yeah, pretty sure ranked disabled all the power advantages of gear and stuff and made it purely competitive.
|
Also, they can advertise the gear system without advertising the loot box system. Frankly, out of every game I’ve played that uses loot boxes Injustice 2 was the most generous. I never once felt compelled to buy any. If they do it the same way for mk11 it should fly right under the radar.

I’m guessing this is where spawn finally gets a spot.

Hells yeah

Wasn’t terribly impressed by the presentation. Don’t get me wrong, the game itself looks great but NetherRealm is once again pussyfooting around the roster reveal. With the game only a couple months away, all the characters have to be mostly finished at this point. Don’t have to go in depth on all of them but show something, even if it’s just a render. But instead we just got a handful, and they just played the same moves and fatalities several times. Like, it was just revealed and I already feel like I need a break from seeing scarlet’s fatality again.
Again though, the game itself looks good so whatever. I don’t expect the animation to ever change that much. Love it or hate it, I don’t think they’ll ever drastically change it. That said, the animation does look a bit smoother, so that’s something. Felt like hits in general packed more impact. More oomph, if you will. Outside of the classic uppercut that’s something that’s always felt like a weak point in comparison to say street fighter and tekken where even normals feel satisfying. I like how x-rays have been shortened and spread out into the move set (meterburn specials? It wasn’t totally clear) and replaced by a more traditional “super”. Story already looks more interesting than MK X. New character is cool. |
They need to frigging bring back Konquest single player mode...

A refocus on the neutral game as oppose to target combos and juggles is not something I'd expect NetherRealm to ever do. In a strange way it harkens back to MK2 (preset combo strings were introduced in MK3 and was the game going forward). It's an unexpected design pillar that I respect.
I still think Fatalities as they are is just archaic and Brutalities/Instant Kills on low life should be the future of the convention, to integrate it in the live gameplay (and is tourney friendly). |
I don't like that you get your Fatal Blow back if you wiff it. Comeback mechanics like that should be like Ultras in SF4. Hard to land, and gone if you miss.
Also not a fan of EX moves being unique button combos for each move. Seems completely assinine. Making something thats been very simple in every fighting game, unecessarily complicated. Can see that being one of the first things they change, if it evenmakes it to the final game. I cant imagine anyone who got to play it at the event was happy with that. |

Fuck yeah @ custom variations |
Switch version is being developed by Shiver Entertainment with NetherRealm promising the only differences will be some graphical downgrades for performance reasons. Also rumored to be getting released about 2-3 weeks after the other versions at least for Europe.
https://www.destructoid.com/mortal-k...t-539723.phtml Also a rumor floating around the net of this game supporting cross-play for online multiplayer. |

Also the new in-game augments system will be very limited for online multiplayer in order to ensure a level playing field for matches. Quote:

The fatalities in this game are next level so far. |
LOL. Mortal Kombat is still around? Didn’t realize it was 1993. I was into Mortal Kombat way back when but then I went through puberty and became interested in getting pussy. In all seriousness though, much respect to the makers of Mortal Kombat for still staying relevant after all these years. My favorite character of all time is Scorpion. Was also a huge fan of Goro.
|
Apparently there was a fan petition for Shaggy from the Scooby Doo series to be added as a guest character for this game. Making things interesting for a while was Ed Boon teasing the possibility which then lead to NetherRealm Studios having to release an official statement of them having no plans of actually adding Shaggy to the roster.

She looks fucking rad. Love the sound effects of her staff. Really sounds like she’s smacking the absolute shit out of people.
Also, it’s been confirmed she’ll have human skin option in case you weren’t feeling the revenant look. |
I'm torn on which system to get it for. My main dickheads have Switches but not sure they'll get it. Others on the PS4... that Switch collects dust.
I'm gonna resurrect the Switch because I backed the new Toe Jam & Earl game and preordered the Switch version. |
I like the dead, decaying goro in the background.
|
Bayonetta series director Hideki Kamiya recently teased MK fans of being open to the idea of Bayonetta as a potential guest character in Mortal Kombat 11.

That would be fucking awesome.

God damn the fatalities in this game go harrrrrrrrrrrrrrd

Amazing.
|
Cage is just so extra Love him.
Also living Jade looks great. |
So love that Fatality, Johnny has always been a fun character.
|
I’ve actually been a bit nonplussed by Johnny throughout the years but that trailer makes me want to try him.
|
In other news the baffling decision to give every EX version of special moves its own unique input has been nixed. It’s now a simple button press to amplify special moves, ya know, like every fighting game since EX moves became a thing.
Very good to see they’re listening to fan feedback. |
In a timely manner, too.

He sounds like Dr. Claw lol
|
Why are we announcing DLC when the actual game itself hasn't come out. I swear, modern gaming...
|
I think in this case, they were just excited to announce the voice actor.
Regardless, it doesn't really hurt anything to announce it. Hell, in today's season pass obsessed enviornment, I would actually appreciate more transparency in terms of whats planned for DLC. |
DLC tends to be developed way before launch so whether they announce it or not it's pretty much a given. Especially for fighting games.

Definitely an elder god of some kind. Honestly feels like more of an Injustice character than MK. Almost jarring to see her perform a fatality. |
Also, a couple notes from Game Informer
-Competitive play will see preset variations, similar to MKX, made for balanced play -Additional skins and gear are planned for DLC, and they are looking into DLC moves as well. |

Frost looks terrible.
|
Quote:
|
I like Frost’s design. I mean yeah, almost no resemblance to her previous looks outside of the mask and hair, but that’s by design. I really like the futuristic, almost alien design motifs of Kronikas faction.
Regardless, there will be plenty of options for outfits. |
So Mileena isn't in this correct?
|
For now. I'd bet she'll be DLC.
|
Seems the game requires a constant internet connection in order to unlock things due to how the Krypt and Towers of Time mode were designed. Also seems even having a constant internet connection isn't enough since its rumored you also need to have an active sub with Xbox Gold, PS+, or Nintendo Online as well.
Story mode and regular/classic Towers mode are not affected for unlocks. https://www.resetera.com/threads/mor...-krypt.111786/ https://www.gonintendo.com/stories/3...ar-unlocks-tow https://gamerant.com/mortal-kombat-1...net-gear-mode/ |
According to people who have gotten the game early, unlocking things in the game is super grindy, to the point of frustration. Luckily, on the latest kombatkast, they stated they have been listening to this feedback and will be patching krypt and time towers soon.
|
I swear, no one in gaming knows how to do a launch on a big title that requires a running online server and manage to keep said god damned server up.
|
Still debating if I want it for the Switch or PS4
|
Quote:

Not sure if its the same size on other consoles but Destructoid reported that the Day 1 patch on the Switch is about 16 GB in size.
Also seems Warner Bros cheaped out on cart size and went with the smallest one allowed (8 GB) which would explain the large size of the Day 1 patch. Destructoid also confirmed the constant internet requirement rumor for unlocking stuff. |

Good lord, Sonya Blade sounds fucking awful in Mortal Kombat 11. Compared to other notable examples in gaming, its not that horrendous but it does showcase why her acting career fizzled out very quickly. |
She’s pretty fucking bad. I don’t know why they bothered, tbh. Her name value has gone down a lot over the years.
|
Also the medium sized tits :nono:
|
I wouldn't even call Ronda's set medium.
|
She nearly ruined story mode for me.
|
I want to set the folks whining about how the MK11 female characters aren't dressed provocatively enough on fire.
|
Yeah, I’m only concerned with how cool the design is, and the last two games have had far better designs than the generic stripper ninja outfits of old.
|
PROTIP: Stay off gamefaqs
|
I like the old designs. Except for Sonya, though she's allowed to seem tacky.
|
The new ones just seem to have more character to them, imo. But to each his own.
|
Sonya, Cassie, Jacqueline; army chicks. Cassie has a robot friend.
Kitana; perfect. Demure ninja princess. She was already designed like this, the conservative to Mileena's vixen. Mileena was always the most sexualized because she considers herself ugly. Skarlet; disaster. She secreted blood from her skin, but even without that she was simply the 'red one' of the fem ninjas that had a cool spin on the design. Jade; tryhard. Her look was geared more eastern than the rest. Now it's another body suit. In fact that bothers me more than anything. If it were character based reboots than how are *none* of the females retaining their old look? Each of their character arcs led to them dressing conservative? Unlikely. It's clearly a design decision. People complained about 'stripper ninjas' well I'm complaining about combat nuns. |
I disagree completely. I think said bodysuits have more individual personality. There were small details on the old outfits but only so much you could do with so little material.
Kitana in X looked very Regal, as she was a powerful leader by that point in the story. In 11, she is pulled from time before she aquired said power, so her outfit leans a bit more toward assassin, but while still retaining some of the elegance that has defined her design over the years. Mileena's default in MKX is probably my favorite design for the character. I'm not sure about Mileena considering herself ugly. Where has she ever said that? I've always figured the sexualization of Mileena is just the devs sense of irony. Anyway, for me, the MK X outfit just really conveyed the savage nature of Mileena and it also fit her role n the story as a dethroned rebel fighting a guerilla war against the current regime. Her dark empress alt had similar royal vibes to Kitana's default, but with that savage twist, fitting to the character. It was cool to finally see Skarlet in MK9 but she had probably the most boring design on the whole roster. She looked like an NPC. In MK11 she gets more personality and character. She is closer to a sorceress in this one, and her outfits all portray that better than the old one. Jade....I don't know what to tell you man. I think she looks awesome. She looks more like a field agent with some of that edenian elegance mixed in. And if anything I'd say she has more eastern influence in the new outfit. All this is about her human skin btw. I mean what is so eastern about her old outfit? A few chains and gaudy gems on her kneecaps? The other thing to remember is that every character has over 60 skins. Yes a lot of them are color variations on the same skin, but there are more than enough unique looks that you can't judge solely on the defaults. For instance the "army chicks" have a similar theme on their defaults, but thats for story purposes. Besides those skins they have others that are much more unique. And thats not even getting into gear. Some of of them change small details, but some really add to the outfit. I'm not even against the old stripper ninja outfits. I like them. I just like what we have a whole lot more. |
Well herein is the impasse between two camps, and as I constantly discuss with my buds about things like I always wonder about the 'tie breaker' between two grievances. Opinions of which aesthetic is better aside, why do western game devs serve one side of the argument on so many occasions? What is the tie breaker?
|
Half of these ladies are dressed like Nina Williams' main outfits. And I wouldn't say she isn't sexy.
If it is a design decision, then it's a good one. As for the "but the men are half naked and running around shirtless" complaints I have seen, people are ignorant of what that's about. Shirtless man is a stand in for power. Scantily clad female is a stand in for sex. |
What's wrong with sex; what's right with power?
None of any outfit in the MK series takes away the fact that the game is filled with badasses. Stripper Ninjas are still ninjas. |
I'm fine with the outfits the way they are. I mean yes, I miss my Ninja Stripper jade, but I'm now happy with the outfit I'm running for her, since she is my main.
Plus honestly I feel like they will release classic skins in time, they do that for every MK game for free. I'm sure the Stripper Ninja looks will return. |
Mortal Kombat!
|
They just released a patch that reduces difficulty and increases rewards for Time Towers even further.
I think it's in a good place right now, but there's still a couple things that could be better. Koin and Heart rewards are good right now, but Soul Fragments need to be a little easier to aquire. There's a ton of those corpses in the krypt and some need thousands of souls. Secondly, the requirement for character towers is frustrating. The first stage has towers that require 50 throws and 50 uppercuts before they can be played. This leads to doing just those moves in fights until you've unlocked them. That's not fun. It's tedious. Would be cooler if it was stuff that helped you learn the character better. Like doing particular kombos with extenders. Stuff that isn't in the move list. |
Fucking christ they just released another update that addresses these issues.
Character tower requirements haven't changed, but the amount of times you have to do them is MUCH lower. And you can get lots more soul fragments from tower rewards. Saw some towers tonight offering 60-75 frragments for getting enough points, which isn't that hard. NRS deserves props for how quickly they've been responding to feedback. |
