X-Men '97

I'll keep this brief in hopes to up this before the forum poofs out. 3 eps in and its outstanding. I think it goes beyond memberberries in the sense that its not cheap nostalgia ploys.

Its very much simply new stories. Effectively its Newstalgia. It delivers as long as youre a fan of X-Men in general. You dont really need to have seen the 90s run at all.

Ol Dirty Dastard 03-30-2024 08:36 AM

Dale Newstalgia

Ol Dirty Dastard 03-30-2024 08:37 AM

I saw episode one and gotta admit it didn’t land for me. Veers too much on the side of “for kids” instead of being for adults and their children. Too on the nose, which I’m assuming is the point but that just doesn’t do it for me.

Destor 03-30-2024 09:49 AM

Ep 101 is 100% membererries. Its best for best night of the sentinel from the 92 run. Thankfully they dropped 2 eps on day 1 otherwise id probably agree with. (Though being TV Y is what it should be.)

M-A-G 03-30-2024 10:57 AM

The third episode is pretty dark.

Lock Jaw 03-30-2024 11:13 AM

I could see it just fine

Seanny One Ball 03-30-2024 11:44 AM

That’s because of your little Chinese eyes

Lock Jaw 03-30-2024 01:29 PM

My main/only gripe now is the intro and how they put Magneto first... they should have just put him where they had Professor X in the first episode....

Ruins the "visual flow" of the intro to not see Cyclops blasting right after that explosion.... was already thrown off a little bit by the inclusion of Morph, making the music cues for Beast and especially Jubilee a bit off... but I could live with it... until they put Magneto at the start which not only ruined the visual flow of the intro but further ruined the audio cues....

Destor 03-31-2024 09:30 AM

Well if thats your gripe then its safe to say its a home run

Frank Drebin 03-31-2024 10:48 AM

Lock Jaw is livid!

Yeah, it's been great. Rewatched the original series and ended right in time to just roll right into this one, and it is pretty seamless.

it was. To be critical i found that ep hyper rushed but from the enjoyment stand point i was hyped the whole time. It felt like a roller coaster.

Lock Jaw 04-01-2024 06:38 PM

Already renewed for a season 3

Destor 04-01-2024 06:43 PM

I'll take season 75 but its worth noting they terminated the show runner

Fignuts 04-02-2024 08:56 PM

What's most impressive to me is how how they've weaving multiple stories from the comics together without it feeling messy or bloated.

Destor 04-03-2024 01:00 AM

It still early but i agree.

Also shout out to this being the coolest Cyclops has ever been portrayed. He's my favorite X-man and im very happy about it

This is one of the biggest aspects that's different, but in a great way. He doesn't seem like a whiney bitch anymore.

Also, landing on the ground by using the optic blast into the ground in Episode 2 was perfect.

He's been a real highlight of the revival, IMO.

Lock Jaw 04-22-2024 11:21 AM

That episode 5 tho

weather vane 04-22-2024 02:47 PM

So wait...

SPOILER: show
Professor X faked his own death to go marry someone and "live his life"?

If that's right, that's kinda wank

no at the end of the original run the shiar showed up and charles was unconscious dying. They told magneto they could save him but the tech was at home so magneto let them take him

drave 04-24-2024 10:12 AM

Yeah, I did some light reading after that post. Makes sense now.... but still don't understand the whole orchestration of his death certificate, etc.

Seems very uncharacteristic of him to just never return..... I dunno. I'm FAR from a superfan or anything like that.

Destor 04-24-2024 03:04 PM

Its a plot contrivance especially as presented in the new series. The idea in my mind is he would have required on going medical treatment that could only be done there so he would have to stay to live. What we got was he seems all better now and has no reaspn not to return other than to fuck his bae.

Destor 04-24-2024 03:05 PM

I dont mind that mind you. Magneto leading the X-Men is interesting and worth exploring.

drave 04-25-2024 01:26 PM

100% Magneto leading is definitely interesting.

Just felt kinda..... I struggle to find the correct word to apply. Disappointing perhaps. Just seemed outta sorts and also maybe cheap?

weather vane 04-25-2024 03:49 PM

This is how you do a reboot.

Destor 04-25-2024 04:00 PM

I know what youre saying but its worth noting this isnt a reboot. Its a revival. Its the same continuity. I agree with the spirit of what youre saying though.

weather vane 04-25-2024 04:47 PM

Thanks for clarifying. It definitely needed it.

Destor 04-25-2024 05:17 PM

Well...it probably didnt. But terms matter.

weather vane 04-25-2024 06:18 PM

I knew I was potentially wrong when I wrote it. Almost Googled it but thought “who gives a fuck?”. Destor gives a fuck.

Destor 04-25-2024 08:45 PM

Im happy to replace google and ill do it for pennies on the dollar

From what the X-Men understood based on what they were told at the end of the last series, Xavier would likely never return anyway. Even if you weren't going to go the route of faking his death, at some point, legally, he would be declared dead anyway.

weather vane 05-09-2024 07:55 AM

Finale gonna be wild.

Lock Jaw 05-09-2024 09:38 AM

Another hot episode... finally got the moment I've been waiting for at the end of the last episode...

Destor 05-10-2024 07:36 AM

Penultimate ep was fucking wild and i cant believe they did that. Bonkers

Destor 05-10-2024 07:37 AM

Gotta say though i prefer the 90s outfits to the 80s outfits
