CM Punk

He's back! What a time to be a WWE fan!

Bad News Gertner 11-26-2023 06:30 AM

That was pretty sweet

Ben Rodrigues 11-26-2023 06:35 AM

How is AEW going to respond? This makes them look even more minor league.

Black Widow 11-26-2023 06:55 AM

I'm with Rollins

Ben Rodrigues 11-26-2023 06:56 AM

Ben Rodrigues 11-26-2023 06:57 AM

Very excited with how this played out. Hopefully Tony Khan rewards Jack Perry by going through with him as the Devil.

Ben Rodrigues 11-26-2023 07:18 AM

Actually. If Seth Rollins is going to stop the garbage gimmick he has, this could be quite good.

ClockShot 11-26-2023 07:24 AM

Big whoop.

Is there an over/under I can place money on to see how long he lasts there.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-26-2023 07:51 AM

even if he gets shitcanned, this is pretty awesome lol

weather vane 11-26-2023 08:12 AM

I will tune in to RAW for the first time in forever. Many years.

XL 11-26-2023 08:14 AM

Very excited about this.

Also looking forward to him injured and the next time he does a big return.

XL 11-26-2023 08:15 AM

Apparently McIntyre is (justifiably) pissed.

Ben Rodrigues 11-26-2023 08:18 AM

Pissed at what? That he and Seth will never be as big a draw?

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-26-2023 08:23 AM

it's kinda silly for those guys to be pissed, or at least so demonstrably pissed. The roster lived with it when the nWo came back, and these guys can too.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-26-2023 08:23 AM

And Scott Hall was WAY more of a liability than Punk.

Bad News Gertner 11-26-2023 10:37 AM

It's all an angle.

Seth vs Punk at WM

Lock Jaw 11-26-2023 10:46 AM

Yep.... and then since WM is two days, Punk gets to "technically" main event WM

erickman 11-26-2023 11:09 AM

so will there be any traffic in the raw thread tomorow

Stickman 11-26-2023 11:39 AM

Punk has got to be the most over rated superstar ever.

The talk is he and WWE are far apart on a $ number for a new contract but they can find the bag for Punk. Now, Punk is a guy that generates interest so you can justify the money but from a McIntyre POV “shows how much you think of me” type deal. They also apparently didn’t tell the guys in the main that this was happening so could just be an immediate reaction to not being kept in the loop.

Or could be Punk vs. McIntyre is the first thing they go to but it seems a bit “working the boys” to do this to sell the angle.

Lock Jaw 11-26-2023 12:45 PM

I hear that Drew stormed out before Punk's music... and I mean "in character" it makes sense for him to be pissed.... his team lost, and he didn't get to beat down Jey Uso as much as he would have wanted.

Maluco 11-26-2023 12:51 PM

It’s silly if likes of McIntyre are annoyed by it. WWE would be exactly the same place, doing exactly the same numbers with or without McIntyre. You heard the reaction last night, Drew has never gotten that reaction in his life. Everyone is going to be talking about this for months now. That buzz alone is worth the money.

AEW completely fumbled it by letting their EVPs (who also make no difference to the product) dictate what should and shouldn’t be done. They had so much buzz and anticipation, but couldn’t see past it to do, what would have been, the most exciting program of their careers.

One of their next shows, the three of them are in a tag match with Jericho with no build that no one cares about “to be on the show”, while their most over talent shows up to rapturous applause for the competition.

For shame, Tony Khan.

Reports where saying he “slammed his locker/door, grabbed a hoodie and left” but that’s reports.

#1-norm-fan 11-26-2023 01:13 PM

Man. Time for WWE to tank while Omega and The Bucks take AEW to new heights!

xrodmuc316 11-26-2023 01:14 PM

Drew "stormed out" after the match, he was gone before Punk even came out. He did the same thing after losing at Summerslam. Seems it is all part of this slow burn heel turn.

I saw the video of Seth, that was comical, but also clearly a work. Seth has wanted to work with him going back to the Backstage show.

Oh Phil, somehow after everything he got what he wanted. I am most excited about Tiny Khan's meltdown over this than anything Punk may do, how crazy will Tony get if Cody and Punk each win World Titles at Mania?

I did pop for this tweet:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Hey <a href="https://twitter.com/WWE?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@WWE</a> you thought I was hard to deal with 😂 have fun with 0-2 <a href="https://twitter.com/CMPunk?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@CMPunk</a></p>&mdash; matthew riddle (@SuperKingofBros) <a href="https://twitter.com/SuperKingofBros/status/1728639784191775069?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 26, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Sepholio 11-26-2023 01:38 PM

I'm going to assume there is nothing to the thing with Drew storming off considering you can clearly see the ref signal him to leave. At most I think he may have been hurt again and looked upset because of that.

xrodmuc316 11-26-2023 01:44 PM

Also, what did Phil do to his face? I don't know if he had work done on his eyes or what, but he looked noticeably younger. Maybe it is just WWE's makeup people loading up his face, but if that is the case, why didn't they do that for Edge???

Sepholio 11-26-2023 01:50 PM

I think it was the new haircut and being more clean shaven. He looked noticeably younger for sure.

Ben Rodrigues 11-27-2023 04:11 AM

I see lots of appreciation for Jack Perry, Elite and Tony Khan for their part in making this happen on Twitter. They deserve full credit. Bravo!

Don't you think Punk's return killed all credibility that these reports have?

Rammsteinmad 11-27-2023 04:26 AM

It's exciting. Regardless of all the bullshit and drama over the years, CM Punk is still one of my all-time faves. I thought his bad attitude might be catching up to him in AEW, but there are two positives here that work for CM Punk and WWE.

1. I don't think Triple H, Vince McMahon, Dana White, or anyone associated with running this company, will tolerate any of the bullshit, and if Punk wants to walk out again, that will probably most definitely be the end of it.

2. As much as it looks like Punk is injury-prone these days, WWE's style is nowhere near as intense of AEW's, so he'll probably be able to look after himself physically a lot better in WWE.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. If Seth Rollins is genuinely pissed, I can totally understand why, and I'm actually kind of on his side with this. But regardless, Rollins using this to turn heel and get away from the goofy "freakin'" stuff again, could make this a very hot fued between the two.

A few things I giggled over:

First and foremost, a meme pic of Punk looking right during his entrance, with a look at the moment of the screengrab that looked like "surprise", and being captioned "WHAT?! THERE'S ACTUALLY PEOPLE ON THE HARD CAMERA SIDE?!?". Then, it was followed by a commenter dubbing it "The Reverse Copeland".

Second, the Drew thing. You're telling me that after getting his first major push derailed because Vince got bored with him, getting relegated to "3MB" comedy fodder, being fired for "not wanting it", getting enough buzz on the indys to be re-hired, and having a long, slow build that unfortunately culminated in him getting his title run with nobody in attendance, that CM Punk would be a reason he leaves legitimately? Yeah, whatever. Pull the other one. We're not talking about Ausitn Aries, here. This would be the perfect cap to the whole broody moody "fuck everyone" heel tease he's been on lately. Drew can't be that dumb.

Speaking of that dumb... Ryback. Look, if you aren't planning on "retiring", stop teasing it and walking it back. It didn't work that time you got self-owned on a poll where the "fans" overwhelmingly voted for retirement, and then the whole "If Punk returns, I'll retire" reframed retroactively with "Oh, I meant in AEW. This doesn't count." Stop threatening people with a good time.

Also in the "that dumb" category... the above caption from Riddle. Because being a massive PR liability over repeated drug screen failures and spousal problems is "better" than merely having a personality conflict.

I agree with the sentiment around here about this hopefully leading Rollins to become "more serious" instead of the whole LSD Riddler tip he's on right now. Then again, it is kinda dumb to be this over the top with a conniption fit when he wasn't super bothered by the idea recently. It would be like after dropping the quote he did about liking the idea of having him help train in NXT, Shawn Michaels suddenly started throwing furninture when the music hit at Survior Series. Make it at least make some sense.

weather vane 11-27-2023 08:10 AM

Punk is such a fucking crybaby hypocrite loser. Pumped to see what he says though. He moves the needle big time.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-27-2023 08:43 AM

Dunno if I'd call him a loser. He seems content with his life. But he's definitely a crybaby hypocrite and by god it works for him.

Splaya 11-27-2023 10:36 AM

This is in no way a final nail in the coffin for AEW. But it does force them to have to be more engaging with their product.

Tony's knee jerk reaction is going to be to reveal who the devil is on Wednesday or next Wednesday. Don't. Draw it out. Have it happen at World's End or in the new year. Let the CM Punk and Randy Orton madness draw out for a bit.

As it pertains to Punk, he's one of my favorites of all time. Might even be on my Mount Rushmore after it's all said and done. Just my opinion of course. I am excited to see how this goes.

When he returned to AEW, that was more about him returning since he had been away for so long. This return is basically going to be the ultimate middle finger to another company. He's pissed about the way things went. He wanted out. He realized that while money was great, working with the Young Bucks and Omega wasn't what it was cracked up to be (in all fairness, if you aren't established or best friends with them, your TV time tends to dwindle with them at the helm).

I think part of it for Punk is also the opportunity to show he can coexist in a locker room so he can say “Hey, things seem to be working out here. Maybe those guys were the real problem.”

#1-norm-fan 11-27-2023 11:11 AM

Still just boggles my mind that we’re at a point where wrestlers not getting along in real life means someone has to go.

Again, it is what happens when you have children running a show.

Think about it like this.

Punk goes to AEW. Major pop.

Gets into a fight with the Young Bucks and Omega THE NIGHT THEY WON TRIOS TITLES THAT THEY WANTED INTRODUCED. Because of this, they had to relinquish those titles and were "suspended".

Punk then has to go away because of his surgery. So much bickering between everyone but everyone in the IWC agrees that if he comes back, they have to run a program between all of them because it's what will generate so much money, revenue, press, etc.

Punk comes back but because of the Elite's immaturity, he is "banished" to Collision (which is actually way better for him because he could "run" a show with how he sees fit. The show is actually better with storylines) and there is no chance at profiting from that feud because the EVP's are spoiled assholes and the owner, who wants to just be their friends, can't moderate the situation either.

Punk then goes to England and gets into a fight with one of the Four original foundations of the company. That foundation is suspended and Punk is fired.

He then takes three months off, lets his body heal, gets in what seems to be great shape, comes back at a PLE, garners a much larger pop than the first time because not surprising, IT IS A PACKED HOUSE and was UNANNOUNCED.

The Part that I love is the Young Bucks created this mess and now it's going to be one of the best storylines of the past 10 years. All because the EVP's of a major wrestling promotion couldn't get out of their own way.

Stu Hart 11-27-2023 11:27 AM

This will not last the length of his contract. I give it one year at the most.
