M-A-G 01-11-2021 11:46 AM

Wow, can't believe we're getting close to twenty years since WWE became the only major player in town AND since they lost out to the panda people that forced the name change.

M-A-G 01-11-2021 11:47 AM

Of course, there is that theory running around that Vince and company deliberately tanked that legal battle so that'd they'd have an excuse to have "entertainment" as part of the name.

I don't doubt that.

I can't remember who said it on the Ruthless Aggression show, but someone praised Vince for being "a visionary" for changing the name.

Jordan 01-11-2021 12:26 PM

At this point the name change makes sense and seems "bigger" and yes certainly less "rasslin".

Thanks for making the thread. I'm considering trying to resub for a free Network trial so that I can watch The Rumble. The Adam Pearce booking sounds too good to miss. I always hoped this would happen for him but never thought it would come to fruition.

Jordan 01-11-2021 12:33 PM

I have been off WWE since Mania. I won't be getting into Raw anytime soon it's just too long for me. But Smackdown has some stuff happening that sounds quite good. I wish there was a way to see the whole Roman/Uso saga without watching and skipping through entire episodes.

M-A-G 01-11-2021 12:49 PM

It makes me wonder why they didn't go with "World Entertainment Federation". Certainly with that label SmackDown! Records would have been a force with which we'd all still be reckoning.

road doggy dogg 01-11-2021 01:30 PM

tbh it would make more sense to simply make sub-forums in the Wrestling Forum... WWE forum, AEW forum, etc

but then it would dilute discussions even more so idk WWE bad amirite lads

I'd bet dollars to donuts that they welch on it and it ends up being yet another Kevin Owens match.

And I like KO a lot, but come on. The Rumble is the perfect time to put nonconventional title challengers in there because the Rumble itself is the draw. Also it frees up KO to have a nice babyface run in the Rumble itself instead of just having a match that could happen on any SmackDown.

We all know 4 letter companies are doomed to fail.

screech 01-11-2021 01:32 PM

Roman and KO have had several matches at PPV in a row, so it's a good idea to have Roman face someone else.

I have zero knowledge of Adam Pearce, but fuck it. Could be fun

He's like very similar to the fatter guy from FTR. Also he seems to be in much better shape now than when he was NWA/ROH Champ. He had a pretty epic feud with Colt Cabana on the indies which revolved around the NWA Championship. Very old school and simple but very solid worker. Since he's an agent and a big deal behind the scenes I'm expecting him to put on a great showing. I haven't been watching so I don't know the possibility of KO slipping in over Pearce but I really hope not.

That does seem the way it is being setup. Roman made a big deal about how Pearce got his friend K.O. hurt by putting him in a match the week before.

Jordan 01-11-2021 02:18 PM

So is Pearce a babyface?

WWE CHAMPION DREW MCINTYRE TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has tested positive for COVID-19.

Report Ad
"Drew McIntyre has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been placed in quarantine," WWE announced on Monday afternoon. "Check back to WWE.com for more updates as they become available."

McIntyre had been set to face Randy Orton in a non-title match on tonight's episode of Raw. WWE had also hyped that McIntyre would address the challenge that was issued to him by Goldberg on last week's Legends Night edition of Raw. The main event segment of last week's Raw saw Goldberg make his return to WWE television and challenge McIntyre to a WWE Championship match at the Royal Rumble.

After McIntyre retained the WWE Championship against Keith Lee last week, Goldberg confronted McIntyre and challenged him to a title match at the Royal Rumble. The episode ended with Goldberg shoving McIntyre down to the ground.

The Royal Rumble is taking place on Sunday, January 31.

This is the first time that WWE has publicly announced that a member of their roster has tested positive for COVID-19.

I know that you seem to be joking and think this is humorous for some reason, but literally the only people on this entire forum who are incapable of engaging about the differences between the two companies are you and Noid. Every other conversation seems to be an entirely normal, mature conversation until either of you get involved. Have you ever considered that maybe you are the problem? This probably counts as feeding the troll though, so I'll stop.

This is extra funny to me because both of them claim to want to have "logical discussions" about rasslin, then have quasi-meltdowns when someone disagrees with them.

screech 01-11-2021 03:39 PM

Damn that's unfortunate about Drew. Feel like Vince could work this into an angle to give Goldberg the title or some shit.

Not that I think they will do that, but I would not be shocked by it.

It's what the forum requires, otherwise it would just be posting every tweet about AEW and then other people gleefully posting about how cool Tony Khan is for buying Jungle Boy themes.

But yes, I've been saying for months this place should be renamed TPAEWW, because it is a cult following level of brainwashed fragile AEW fans who can't handle any criticism of their fave rasslin company and have to edit and/or delete posts, or randomly attack another poster who was very clearly joking.

These conversations you are referring to do not exist. Somebody posts something, a few people post in 100% agreement that the thing they love is the greatest thing ever. A few less people don't agree because they aren't blindly biased, then the original people come back and insult the ones not agreeing 100% in their view.

"GEEK OUT WITH THE SAME LEVEL I AM DOING, OR FUCK YOU!"

That is the problem, not being able to even jokingly speak ill of AEW without experiencing backlash. Even the more refined posters can't help it. You tried to make a civil reply, but you couldn't get through one paragraph without a personal insult.

I'm a troll because I made a joke, a joke that irrationally upset you enough that you had to reply and insult me. Maybe consider the problem is that.

Anybody got ideas what will happen with Goldberg/Drew now that Drew has covfefe?

I guess there is a chance Drew can still do the match. If not though, would they just delay til the next PPV?

I think they will likely push it to E.C. I guess the Rumble still being 2 weeks out means they may still be able to do it there, but if I was betting is think they will push it to the next PPV.

screech 01-11-2021 05:00 PM

I mean would they think Goldberg could help draw the February show so he isn't "wasted" at the Rumble?

(I'm guessing he's got limited dates.)

Watched last week's SD yesterday. With how the gauntlet ended, it could set up his feud with Roman. I think that would be a really good program.

But with how WWE has used Nakamura, this will probably never be mentioned again.

XL 01-13-2021 12:11 PM

Yeah it could. Seemingly an out of the blue face turn in there too. All signs pointed to them setting up Daniel Bryan for Roman and that could very well some down the line despite him losing to an already tired Nakamura.

If anything they’ll swap Pearce out for Naks for the Rumble or put him in there with Roman at one of the shows between Rumble and Mania.

Does booking him well for a few weeks cancel out the indifferent booking he’s received for the last number of years?

And yes, I know Noid will rationalise why they’ve “wasted” him, or that they’ve brought him in specifically to fill a spot on the card and thus they’ve got out of him exactly what they wanted.

Bad News Gertner 01-13-2021 12:27 PM

He also really hasn't had a lot of stand out matches.

Evil Vito 01-13-2021 02:23 PM

Nakamura reminds me of Del Rio in that he's a great worker who phones it in 95% of the time.

Not meant to be a knock on him either, no sense in killing yourself in random matches when you're a good enough worker to get by half assing it unless it's a really big match.

Damian Rey 2.0 01-13-2021 05:03 PM

Going all out in NXT where you might have a TV match every other week plus the takeovers made sense. Doing in WWE with their previous touring schedule was a death wish.

screech 01-13-2021 05:04 PM

The fact that he can phone in it and still do good work is pretty great, really.

Mr. Nerfect 01-13-2021 05:51 PM

I’ve never seen Nakamura “phone it in.” Don’t watch every week, obvs, but whenever I see him I see a dude in the moment working exactly how he needs to work.

He’s not punching a dude as hard as he can in the fucking neck anymore. But his timing, facial expressions, how smooth some of his shit looks — he’s sublime. As far as his choices go in the ring (say what you want about his look, size, booking, the language barrier, etc.), does he have a single flaw?

The guy doesn’t look lazy at all. He always looks like he’s there to be in a fight. Del Rio seemed almost hypnotized half the time. Del Rio was silky smooth too, but nowhere near as good as Naks.

drave 01-14-2021 07:48 AM

Nakamura is this era's Kenzo Suzuki. Tons of hype, jobbed out in title programs, then permanently moved into midcard obscurity. The one plus is Nakamura actually got a title shot at Mania, which was the beginning of his end.

WWE are the absolute kings of making something into nothing. I remember tuning in just out of intrigue to see this match and I was blown away. His entrance, his charisma and just how good he looked.

Once Vince gets his hands on someone, he makes sure he strips away whatever energy they have built up and WWE’s them (50/50 booking, nothing feuds, comedy skits etc...) until there is nothing to see anymore.

Adam Pierce v Roman Reigns was easily the most interesting program they could've run for Rumble. Hasn't Owens been feuding (and losing) to Reigns for a few months now?

XL 01-16-2021 04:50 PM

Tbf he’s lost twice and not been pinned/made to submit.

Damian Rey 2.0 01-16-2021 07:25 PM

I know he lost a ladder match. Idk what the other match was, but back to back losses? Even if there hasn't been a definitive loss, seems like overkill with a fresh match right in front of them and an event perfect for that type of match.

RAW 18-34 =.35
AEW 18-34 =.15

AEW totally drawing ALL those young fans lmao.

drave 01-17-2021 09:13 AM

you can bump any thread you want with Asuka videos tbh

GD 01-17-2021 10:08 AM

Can we take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the 8K upgrade/presentation on Smackdown?

No comment, no reason, just a random YouTube video that you HAD to share because "YEAH AEW!"

I can bump every WWE thread with random things too.

I bet you’ll bump them with AEW posts instead though since AEW is your obsession.

Even in a strictly WWE thread you can only seem to talk about AEW.

“BUT MAH AEW CRITIQUES HAVING WWE SHOEHORNED IN THEM!!!”

screech 01-17-2021 12:11 PM

lol so we're up to complaining about random wrestling videos being posted now?

Fucking mark. This gimmick is so boring.

Fastlane has been added as a ppv on March 21

WrestleMania will have a 3 week build

I don't like it, but this also does not surprise me. They've been "on to the next" for quite some time.

USA! USA! USA!

I remember when they booked Cena vs Rock a year in advance and I naively thought Vince remembered that long-term booking sells.

Lol No

Can’t imagine why anybody feels like WrestleMania is just another show.

Evil Vito 01-17-2021 01:10 PM

I am glad they at least are splitting Mania across two nights. I’d love for that to be the norm. They only announced one day for 2022/2023 but it can always change.

But I imagine it’s mostly to try to offset the fact that there will probably only be 50% capacity in the building this year, two nights allows them to take home the same gate as if it was a regular year.

Yes!

I noticed this and loved it.

XL 01-17-2021 02:17 PM

That said, I loved it because it gave SmackDown a slightly different look. I’ll be less enamoured when they also use it on Raw.

Mania needs to stay a 2 day event for as long as they can sell tickets to the 2 nights. 7 hour + show is far too much for one night.

As always, you completely missed the point.

I am not upset with videos being posted.

Bumping AEW threads with every random video or tweet, then saying AEW gets more posts than WWE because of said random posts is just a weird flex.

Post away, it's a wrestling forum, but using post count as proof when it doesn't mean anything is absurd. As I said, a few people posting any random thing because "YEAH AEW!" doesn't mean anything other than they like posting random things because "YEAH AEW!".

lol watch it become a permanent 2 night event but both nights manage to be 7 hours instead of reasonable length like last year

Believe it was your pal Noid who said that 2 (maybe 3?) pages for a WWE PPV was "weak as shit".

Someone with more time than me will find the quote.
