I am 'fine' with the 95' film but I hope those who are really wanting to see this new one; enjoy it all they can. I am probably the ONLY one who doesn't mind the "awful should have never been made" sequel of MK 2 film which nobody cared for but it's also fine to a certain level. Hopefully The rebooted one we have can have a large franchise for fans to love that want it.

Maybe The Miz already filmed scenes as Johnny Cage. Thats why WWE put the belt on him.

Bump...It drops soon.
I had downloaded a shitty cam but couldn't bring myself to watch it in that quality. |
I really enjoyed it. It's a lot like the first one in that from a purely critical standpoint, there's a lot of holes that can be picked at, but most people aren't going to care, because it's just so much fun.
Kano is definitely the highlight. The editing is fucking terrible, and characters aren't utilized very well, but again, its still very entertaining for what iy is. Particularly if youre a fan of the series. |
I watched it this morning. I'll write a review when I get home later.

Very underwhelming. The original film is is structurally better with both plot and character development and considerably better acting in it as well.
the films action is well directed and the cinematography of those scenes is solid throughout but its the only high point. and even that is stifled by the constant need to have the characters strike a pose and "look cool" instead actually doing something interesting. for a film that felt the need to create a new character to be its protagonist youd think theyd have made that choice because they had a story they wanted to tell. what we get however is a vanilla protagonist (thats primary character development is he's a shit tier fighter) with motivations so routine that if i gave someone 3 guesses as to what they are i bet theyd guess it on luck alone. none of the characters shine in any way save kano. maybe sonya but still very low tier. for a film that deliberately attempts to tell an original story (despite having a great mythos that doesnt need to be abandoned) the film spends a 5th of its run time with cheeky winks to the audience in an effort to get cheap pops. this noncommittal approach to forging its own path leaves me being pulled in two directions. on one hand a new cannon with new ideas. the other leaning on what id rather be watching reminding me how unsatisfied i am with this product . also wtf @ reiko. trash adaptation. this is marginally better than annihilation and that was on a fraction of the budget. |
I dunno where to start because Destor pretty much nailed it.
Reiko looked straight out of Annihilation. The bad guys (outside of SZ & Kano) might as well of been generic TMNT foot clan soldiers. They literally ruined Goru SPOILER: show Raiden was laughable as Earth Realm's protector....some fucking temple. The biggest let down was how they talked this up as some of the best on screen martial arts...pff. So many camera cut aways. It's no surprise Ed Boon has not ONCE commented on the movie yet Scorpion/Sub-Zero scenes were ace, tho. |
I'll give them one thing
SPOILER: show |
Reiko. wtf. why.
|
I would’ve preferred this to be a sub zero origin movie than what we got. Destor is on the money here. This was bland and boring and the original is a better film.
|
I've owned the 1995 film on VHS, DVD, and on digital and cannot imagine how many times I've watched it.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge is also on HBO Max and is actually pretty enjoyable.
Not that MK 2021 is HORRIBLE...just disappointing. I'd be willing to see where they go with the sequel(s). SPOILER: show One more thing....Raiden's out of nowhere combatant teleports...fucking insulting to our intelligence! |
scorpions revenge is much better

Shang Tsung was just there. Total waste of Chin Han's talent.
|
Liu Kang should have been the protag. making cole simply because you didnt want to walk in the pasts shadow was the wrong call.
|
Oh....how did I forget to mention the tourney invitees and how they get their arcana. lol gg
|
that entire plot strand is fucking stupid and i hate it.
|
i never want to hear the word arcana again for any reason ever
|
They'll really have their work cut out for them to get the storyline to the actual tournament within the first hour....
|
|
I actually think the idea of a decendant of scorpion is a cool
idea, but anytime you introduce a new character in a franchise with so many iconic, memorable characters, you'd better make sure the new guy is interesting. And Cole isn't interesting at all. |

They'd be smart to use the same peeps behind Scorpion's Revenge as fill in before the next movie (SW: Clone Wars style).

How the fuck is Sub-Zero 400 years old? So Scorpion can just come back? Why did it take him over 400 years to get off his ass? |
Maybe they should have followed the predecessor movies and kept Raiden Caucasian. William Dafoe could have stolen Kano actor's comedic thunder (no pun)

Assuming SZ fought for Outworld, winning combatants get youth and power for the next tournament? might be wrong there. Cole was given the gardening tool and I guess it sensed SZ...straight teleported Scorp outta the Netherrealm? |
Another good prequel movie could have been Edenia getting ate up by Outworld with minor flashbacks to other realms getting absorbed...

ED BOON IS NOT AMUSED
