Who will have the most successful career?

I'm going with CM Punk when it's all said and done but I think Orton has accomplished more as of now.

Nark Order 06-28-2012 02:43 AM

I want to say Punk but I could imagine a scenario of him getting pissed again one day and leaving for the indies for good.

Rammsteinmad 06-28-2012 07:55 AM

What was the reasoning behind this thread? Kinda curious why tjogo chose Orton and Punk to compare who would have more success.

My answer; in the long run, I think Punk may overcome Orton, but right now it's Orton.

MoFo 06-28-2012 08:09 AM

Orton has and will always have a better career than Punk, IMO.

It has helped that guys like Angle, Michaels and the like were still around when Orton was in the main event but Punk was an ECW jobber. I mean Orton was having classic matches with Taker on PPVs while Punk was busy losing to Chavo and Hardcore Holly.

He's about to get fired and then it'll be all over for him.

XCaliber 06-28-2012 11:25 AM

Have to go with Orton somehow I think he will have more longevity that would be the difference maker.

MisterLee 06-28-2012 11:28 AM

I cared about contributing to this thread until your signature loaded on my web browser and now I am at a lost for words.

Volare 06-28-2012 11:40 AM

Should've made a 3rd option for Kevin Nash.

Schlomey 06-28-2012 11:53 AM

Random but I'll bite. CM Punk can be heel or face at the drop of a hat. CM Punk doesn't abuse pills or alcohol causing in-flight fiascos and suspensions. CM Punk is a student of the game and respects the business. CM Punk is a team player (how many guys did he put over in 2010/2011 before winning?) .

I can't say very many of those things about Randy Orton.

Nicky Fives 06-28-2012 12:03 PM

Randy Orton

tjogo 06-28-2012 12:53 PM

I picked these two because it seems like Orton's future is unsure but he had a much more successful career in his early days while it looks like Punk is just getting started.

Here's the thing about Orton you have to consider. He was a 3rd generation superstar which meant he had connections CM Punk didn't have which got him the early jump which this is true for Cody Rhodes also. I'm not taking anything away from their skill set it's just that they had better exposure and were brought into this company earlier.

Sepholio 06-28-2012 02:59 PM

I recall CM Punk saying he doesn't plan to wrestle much longer and that his retirement is coming much sooner than anyone thinks. If that is the case, then there is no way in hell he can even hope to eclipse what Orton has already done, let alone what he will do in the future considering he is still fairly young.

pretty much this. Of course that could change but I don't see it happening.

Innovator 06-28-2012 03:19 PM

Until now Orton, but that can change pretty quickly.

I can't say very many of those things about Randy Orton.

as can Orton, especially now he's found his "niche".

neither does Orton and hasn't for a long time (current suspension is rumoured to be some variety of steroid/growth hormone or a "tainted supplement")

so is Randy Orton

so is Randy Orton

Emperor Smeat 06-28-2012 04:38 PM

Right now its Orton but overall I can see Punk having a better one once its all over.

Orton having 2 Wellness Policy strikes is a big problem since the WWE would have to be concerned about Orton failing again and already have been moving towards Sheamus as replacing Orton as the mega star of Smackdown.

Damn 06-28-2012 04:49 PM

CM Punk already has a more succesfull career. CM Punk will go down alongside Hogan, Rock, Austin, Cena etc.
A true great.

Orton will go around Foley, Macho Man, Bret hart etc, the almost greats.

Fox 06-28-2012 05:51 PM

It really depends on how you measure success in the wrestling world.

Orton has achieved a lot of accolades in his career, but he's also a "WWE made" guy, and it's arguable that he got some of these accolades because of his third generation status more so than his actual skill. CM Punk's success story is much greater than Orton's. Here's a guy who came up from nothing - who had to work the indies for years and earn his respect there before breaking into the WWE and spending over a year losing again and again and again but never losing his steam or his momentum or the power of his character on TV, before finally breaking through the glass ceiling last summer. Orton had everything given to him. Punk had to earn everything he has.

Randy might have a Royal Rumble victory under his name, but CM Punk is the only man to ever win Money in the Bank two years in a row. Orton also lost his WrestleMania title shot after his Rumble victory (in that terrible WM25 match against Triple H), while Punk cashed in successfully both times. He is also the only man to ever make Vince McMahon publicly apologize to him inside "this very ring", and he is also the man who got rid of Jeff Hardy for good.

If you look at who is better on the mic, there's no question. Punk reigns over Orton in this category hands down and always will. Randy's promos are all the same and they've been all the same since he came into this company. Punk can play the face or the heel and he can do both spectacularly. Very few men are as smart, witty and intense on the microphone as CM Punk. Randy is monotonous and tries to be this "venomous" character, but often its just boring.

Who's had the better matches? I think it's too early to tell, but the consistency of Punk's good matches far outweighs the consistency of Orton's good matches. Punk took Cena to the best match of his career last year. His matches against Jericho and his matches against Daniel Bryan (TV and PPV) have all been outstanding. Then you look at his matches against guys like John Morrison, The Miz, Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio and again, they are all very, very good. The only truly GREAT matches I can recall Orton having are against Mick Foley in 2004, his first World title match against Benoit, his recent matches against Christian, and a couple of his encounters against Undertaker. Most of his other big matches have been pretty subpar - especially his runs against Cena and Triple H. Good matches, yes, but GREAT matches? No.

Who sells more shit? Right now, Orton probably has the ups on CM Punk over the course of their careers, but that could change depending on how long Punk stays with the company and how long Orton survives in the company.

My final answer? CM Punk.

That is not true. Orton has accomplished more he's been main eventing and has been relevant since 04 while CM Punk came around 08 and was losing to some bums from ECW. Like I said before Orton was a 3rd generation star and he had connections Punk had which is why Orton's career got started earlier and he became relevant earlier. As of now Orton has done more but down the long run if
CM Punk doesn't leave or anything he's the one.

SlickyTrickyDamon 06-28-2012 06:17 PM

Orton ruins whatever legacy he has if he gets caught again. Sort of proving why he was such a success with the steroids. Also his main gimmick of being explosive is a side-effect from his steroid use.

Other than that he has the Diamond Cutter.

Whatever Punk accomplishes its better than what Orton does cause Punk did it fair, clean and legal. Punk is what the wrestler needs to be in the future so people can see it can be done. Anybody who says they want Punk to "bulk up" is the enemy.

CSL 06-28-2012 06:20 PM

professional wrestling isn't the Olympics. And most of Orton's "success" and "critically acclaimed" performances have been since the wellness policy was implemented/when he quite visibly shrunk/wasn't on gear

and I have no idea what "his main gimmick of being explosive is a side-effect from his steroid use" is even supposed to mean

Got him coach!

CSL 06-28-2012 06:35 PM

yes, I know what you were getting at but it's quite an absurd parallel to draw (plus your article there doesn't once mention steroids) Once again, his "madman"/IED gimmick came into play after the wellness policy/after he shrunk/was passing piss tests. You've just combined "steroids" with "angry gimmick" simply because you've heard the term "roid rage" banded about. By all means have an opinion on who you like more, who's matches/promos/look/moments etc that you prefer but don't just post random speculative nonsense because half the people in this forum will probably take it as a bastard fact.

It shall live forever like an ancient artifact. The Earth will fall and the Aliens will take over and one day something will find that post and it'll have it's own huge display in the human section of the Alien museums and creatures will travel from far and wide to see it

My guess is because of some article on the dirt sheets saying how WWE views CM Punk as THE #2 face now in the company instead of Punk and Orton sharing the spot before Orton's suspension.

Anyway, to answer the question, Orton as of right now, but if Punk keeps it up, he'll surpass Orton soon.
