How bummed out will you be when Brock ends Undertaker's streak?

I imagine some fans will literally cry, but I'm not sure any of you are to that level.

So what, trash throwing? Angry tweets? What's the most you'll do when Heyman and CM Punk raise Lesnar's hands in victory?

Crippla 04-04-2014 07:15 PM

Could be worse

Brigstocke 04-04-2014 07:16 PM

I for one, will laugh with glee.

Ruien 04-04-2014 07:50 PM

I would be thankful it was done and a new match will be free to take up the spot on the next Mania.

Ruien 04-04-2014 07:50 PM

I still won't watch the match because I don't believe it has a chance of actually happening.

Swiss Ultimate 04-04-2014 09:48 PM

This thread is being panned by the pro-Taker crowd, apparently.

I'll be 7 bummed.

#1-norm-fan 04-04-2014 09:54 PM

Mainly because it will mean Fandango vs Taker next year can't be streak for streak.

Swiss Ultimate 04-04-2014 09:59 PM

Fangbingobango should win the next 21 Royal Rumbles.

#1-norm-fan 04-04-2014 10:09 PM

ACCEPTABLE.

He should also end all other WrestleMania streaks though. I guess ending The Miz' WrestleMania streak next year would suffice.

Why?

Really, the two most used reasons I've heard explaining why the streak won't end are:

1. Because Undertaker deserves to go out on top when he retires

2. Because I love the Undertaker

I don't recall any actual good reasons not to end the streak at 21. Ending it does nothing to take away from the awesomeness of it or from Undertaker's legacy. Hell, because people are so in love with Undertaker's streak, that by itself is a reason to end it. Pissing off fans is just as important in keeping them engaged as making them happy. If the good guy always won, a lot of people would stop watching.

I don't know of many big time wrestlers who have gone out on top. I can't imagine Undertaker losing would result in a loss of revenue of any kind.

I also really don't care to see Cena VS. Undertaker. I know people think it's some giant match that will make all sorts of money, but I really have no interest in seeing it whatsoever.

Now, obviously I don't know what the hell is going on at Wrestlemania. I hope Lesnar ends the streak. I hope CM Punk's absence was part of a storyline. I hope CM Punk returns at Wrestlemania. I hope he's a heel and allies himself with Paul Heyman and helps end the streak. Will that happen?

I have to say, completely honest here, CM Punk told me personally that it will.

Honest to god.

Kingofdaswing 04-05-2014 12:03 PM

It won't happen this year. Reason: it's Brock Lesnar, who is a part time guy, no way they allow him to break it.

It won't happen in any year. Reason: no one deserves to break the streak, not a single wrestler on the roster deserves it, and I would not trust anyone to get that kind of push, and to stay with the company. What happens if they break the streak and the next year they leave, or go on drugs, ect.... No worth the risk. And why not let the taker retire undefeated? What harm would that do?

Fact is, the streak will never be broken, and shouldn't be broken, period.

Emperor Smeat 04-05-2014 01:01 PM

Probably be more shocked than upset considering the feud build up wasn't that good compared to recent years.

If Brock somehow did win, probably going to act as the transition for whoever the next top Mania star will be for the future and have a match next year to elevate that person.

Brigstocke 04-05-2014 01:02 PM

Bray Wyatt will break the streak.

Swiss Ultimate 04-05-2014 01:07 PM

I asked you for a real reason and you gave me, "Brock's part time" and "I really love the streak"

Seriously, those are weak arguments.

As for "what harm would that do?" None. I never said Undertaker retiring undefeated at Mania would do anything. It'd probably bore me and I think it'd be a wasted opportunity, but yeah, it's not going to hurt the company.

Again, the idea that "nobody" deserves to end the streak is pure garbage. This isn't a transfer of power, this is a heat generator. The fact that you talk about it like this proves that beyond any doubt. You're the type of guy who would scream at his TV if Brock Lesnar ends the streak and guess what, you're anger is what is good for business.

When fans screamed at their TVs when Hogan joined the nWo they ended up paying money to see WCW live, they bought the merchandise, they got incredibly passionate about the product and watched more consistently. When fans screamed at their TV after the screwjob, it was good for business, when fans were utterly pissed off by Nash ending Goldberg's streak it was good for business (for a while at least).

That said, you don't know Lesnar's contract details. For all you know he'll go back full-time after defeating Undertaker. Let's also stop kidding around here. Brock Lesnar on drugs? He's no Jeff Hardy, he's an incredibly reliable and discipline man who tends to deliver big.

My scenario would work great because it would place much of the heat onto CM Punk who would be able to use it perfectly to put over the future of the WWE.

The best possible chain of events for story line purposes is for CM Punk to turn heel and help Heyman and Lesnar end the streak together. That way super-hot Babyface Bryan can have a series of amazing matches with his nemesis CM Punk over the course of the next year. Brock Lesnar on the other hand, even part-time, can be used to put over all sorts of guys. If the WWE was going to give the honor of defeating the streak to anyone it would be to these guys who could do the most with it.

Give Bryan his big win at Wrestlemania, making him a fighting champ, with the Authority pretending his victories at Wrestlemania were a fluke and give him one-two months where Bryan goes over the top of the card, everybody BUT Punk and Lesnar and then have him lose the title to Lesnar and start his feud with Authority backed Company Man Punk. Actually do something that'll make casual fans want to watch.

Again, when it comes down to it, the need for Undertaker to win is an emotional one and has little to do with actual logic either in terms of revenue or story. "What harm would it do?" is the core of every argument held by people so dead set on having the streak go on forever.

Just another reason to end it...

The entire angle appears to be nothing more than a way for Undertaker to get his 22nd consecutive win. And that does very little for Brock Lesnar's character.

The reason that Undertaker will likely soundly defeat Brock is because that's the way it has been booked. WWE has given fans very little reason to believe that Lesnar has any chance of ending the streak. Considering that 'Taker has looked so strong thus far, there is every reason to believe that he will take care of his business at WrestleMania.

I'm not saying it isn't. Brock has been booked to look timid so far, Heyman has been fantastic though and I think he's made an excellent case. That being said...the way this has been booked sets up a Lesnar win perfectly.

If it happens it should be a surprise. People should believe Undertaker is going to win this thing right up until the moment he passes out to a rear naked choke or can't answer a ten count.

WrestleMania XXXI - John Cena turns heel and cheats to end The Streak.

The 2 biggest possible moments in wrestling history combined into one iconic, surreal, eternal moment forever frozen in time.

XL 04-05-2014 02:23 PM

Don't think it will happen this year.
Don't think it will be Lesnar.
Don't think Punk will be involved.
I do want it to be broken though.

It's great fantasy booking, but, nah.

Besides, wouldn't Punk be pissed that a part-time guy like Lesnar was handed the biggest win anybody could ever get, the year after he lost to Taker?

Oh, wait! That whole thing was a work just to set this up!!!

Swiss Ultimate 04-05-2014 03:15 PM

Well, yeah, I'm assuming that everything is a work to make this great.

I also would love to see Punk cover up his tattoos, wear a suit and come to the ring with no piercings. CM should stand for Company Man. Would be a fantastic heel turn.

Like here's a twist to my idea, Punk's working for the Authority and helps Lesnar, but Lesnar is pissed off that his win over Taker is tainted. He blames Paul Heyman who denies he had anything to do with it, comes down on the next Raw, fires Heyman and apologizes to the fans. Triple H and Paul Heyman come out and try to reason with him. Lesnar gets blindsided by a chairshot from Punk coming out of the crowd in a suit.

The Corporation 2.0 would be fun with Punk in the role of The Rock.

Swiss Ultimate 04-05-2014 03:17 PM

It would be sick if Punk started doing the Pepsi Plunge because of his alliance with Triple H.

The Rogerer 04-05-2014 03:52 PM

I'm better than Punk. I gave up Pepsi with wXe.

i think Brock has a chance of beating the streak, which is a little sad as it seems pointless.

Swiss Ultimate 04-05-2014 03:54 PM

If he just wins it and does nothing of note after it, yeah, it'd be pointless.

Swiss Ultimate 04-05-2014 03:56 PM

Ending the streak has got to be a giant deal from the act itself to the aftermath.

I think Undertaker should retire at a Survivor Series.

Survivor Series: Undertaker makes his WWE debut at Survivor Series | WWE.com http://www.wwe.com/videos/survivor-s...series-8376592

The Rogerer 04-05-2014 04:10 PM

I think it should have been Cena this year. His match with Wyatt is all wrong, and Cena vs Undertaker is the match I've wanted to see all year. That we've lost it to two effectively pointless matchoffs is a real shame. I don't even mind who wins that one.

Cena is the only one who could win it effectively, too. It's far too much of an albatross for a lesser star.

Do you really worry about giving anyone a major, iconic win because they could leave or "go on drugs"? lol

"It's not worth the risk because someone could break it and then not work out so just don't end it" is such a painfully poor excuse to not end the streak. The streak NEEDS TO END at some point. Period. If you're really that worried about a guy not getting over from it, fucking give it to Cena. Problem solved. It's not about trying to get someone over. It's about the moment. You don't rob wrestling of arguably the most iconic moment in history just as a nice gesture to a guy who, by the way, doesn't care to retire undefeated at WrestleMania NEARLY as much as you seem to want him to.

#1-norm-fan 04-05-2014 07:56 PM

Krimzon7 04-06-2014 01:04 AM

Bo Dallas will end the streak. Why cant somebody cost taker the match, and lesnar gets the win? Lesnar gets a win, a noob gets THE RUB, and Taker does the job.

Damian Rey 04-06-2014 02:03 AM

Cena is the only one who should ever be considered to beat the streak. His run at the top is ridiculous right now. Has anyone been the top guy in the company as long as he has? Bruno maybe?

Also, the streak shouldn't end. WWE would be throwing money away by the buckets. The match itself, and Taker only wrestling once a year, is a massive draw. In a generation where "attractions" like Andre the Giant types, who you only see for a very short period of time and makes the appearance special, throwing the only true special attraction away and dumping the money with it, is not a smart business move.

#1-norm-fan 04-06-2014 02:16 AM

That's why you don't end it until he's absolutely done.

As soon as he's ready for that last match though and there is no more Taker streak matches to be had, you end it with a loss and you get arguably the most memorable moment in wrestling history out of it in an era where memorable moments just don't happen anymore.

Taker's still got the streak as a big part of his legacy (23-0 doesn't cease to have ever existed just because he lost a match in the end. The streak still happened and the DVDs, etc. still get released) and his opponent, the business, the fans and he himself get a once in a lifetime moment out of it that we'll likely never see the opportunity to have again.

Crippla 04-06-2014 05:28 AM

Bottom line, Brock Lesnar should not be the one to end the streak in my humble opinion. Just doesn't seem fitting but it could be worse.

James Steele 04-06-2014 10:13 AM

Because Lesnar beating the streak is dumb. They are going to have John Cena do that or cheat in order to turn him heel and beat the streak. It'd give Cena another 10 years.

What does seem fitting?

My idea isn't for Brock to end it clean anyway, my idea is for Undertaker to get screwed, preferably by CM Punk.

I don't want to see the streak end after a hard-fought match, finisher/pin. I want to see a colossal effort, everything someone could possibly do to end it. Brock Lesnar + cheating + CM Punk w/Heyman would work in that department. It's certainly believable for people who don't believe in magic that Brock Lesnar would beat Undertaker in a real fight, it's certainly conceivable that an aging Undertaker could lose to a man he's lost to before (in a cell no less) who is a former UFC World champ and an all around badass. Casual fans could buy it without the interference.

I just want it to be dramatic and awesome. There's very little drama in Undertaker beating Brock Lesnar clean at Wrestlemania XXX. So many people just assume that's what's going to happen and it's a pretty damn boring scenario altogether.
