I can imagine Roger Corman has a few scripts exactly like this just tucked away in six foot tall piles, yellowing and curling at the edges as the years go by.
He probably has more than one film actually made involving females that fall in love with unusual creatures. |
Ray Harryhausen would have done incredible things with this.
Next up Quentin Tarantino remakes the "Confessions Of..." series replacing all of the sex with foot stuff. Confessions Of A Shoe Salesman. |
This film just pinched an excerpt from MotherHorseEyes.
Unless MotherHorseEyes lifted it first that whole unborn, unmade dialogue looks to be a pretty obvious rip. Maybe Lovecraft used to say that stuff first. Del Toro seems to like lifting from him. |
The Shape Of Water - 1.5/4
A derivative, hammy, camp and consistently predictable "tropestry" that should hang on the Wall of Shame. This is not a good movie. One positive is that despite the shamefully mediocre material Richard Jenkins, Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer, Nick Searcy and especially Michael Stuhlbarg play their parts very well. This Sally Hawkins was unknown to me before and hopefully will fizzle back into annihilation because I think she's really quite bad. She shouldn't shoulder the blame for her character being entirely unappealing but anybody who makes me wish a mute cleaning lady would die, in a film where the mute cleaning lady is supposedly the heroine, cannot be a good actress. |
I enjoyed Shape of Water. Not an absolute masterpiece or anything, but I enjoyed watching it.
|
How many times have you flooded your bathroom in an attempt to get laid now anyway?
So many unnecessary deaths. |
It was a charming little tale of beastiality
|
It was exactly that. The beast just wanted an egg. Pavlov was kinder to dogs than that naked mute simpleton was to the creature.
|
Splash Noir that movie was. It even fucking had the same ending as Splash. I didn't get why everyone loved it.
|
So many things that annoyed me about it. Generic ass Octavia Spencer playing a sassy black woman for the millionth time. Random gay side story. Really random musical number.
|
Baby Driver is another hugely hyped film that I just couldn't get behind with the way everybody else amped up the hype. It was so mediocre. Just an obvious collection of cut and pastes that could fit into any film of the same genre and already belong to others.
|
I was quite grossed out by it but only in the parts that were supposed to evoke the beauty of love.
It was repugnant really. |

Lock Jaw, would you fuck the sea creature from Shape of Water for $10k?
|
Yeah man, seems like it would really know what it is doing
|
Would you do it for just $5k?
|
Changed my mind on the whole thing. Don't want to have to flood my bathroom and then have to pay for repairs and have construction workers taking over a year to repair it.
|
Ask the construction workers to convert your bathroom into a water tank.
|
Maybe LJ hires each construction crew to finish a different part of his H.H.Holmes murder mansion. That's why it's taking so long.

Citizen Kane - Not Impressed/10

I liked both Baby Driver and Shape of Water. Neither of which were my favorite films of last year.
|
Sicario: Day of the Soldado-7/10
Nowhere near as engrossing or thrilling as the first. The main plot is a bit murky and the subplot doesn't pay off. But it's still a well shot, tense and at times violent movie carried by its performers and maybe there is more in the tank based on the ending |
Swing Time 3.5/10
|
Hell or High Water-9/10
Excellent modern heist themed western with great character work across the board, pacing and scenery. Loved every minute of it. |
Moviepass #71 Uncle Drew - 7.5/10 good for what it was and actually one of the funnier movies I've seen although Tiffany Haddish is reaching high level of annoyance factor
Moviepass #72 Oceans 8 - 8/10 I did really enjoy it and I'm pretty sure it was at leAst better than 12 and 13. |
Ocean's 8 -- 7.5/10
Didn't expect it to be good but I enjoyed it. Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson all really good. |
Rampage - 7.2/10
I love the rock so i like everything he is in so the score reflects that. Definitely good for your hollywood blockbuster over the top action movie. Movie moved at a nice pace and kept me interested throughout. Poor Jeffery Dean Morgan was more or less cowboy Negan in this. I know the man has acting chops so not real sure why he got typecasted or typecasted himself. Do kinda wish rock was opposite zoe Saldana though as i quite love her and the actress in this reminded me of her. Zoe would have just had the better ass to watch running but i digress. SPOILER: show |
Spoiler tags, fuck face.
|
Also Zoe Saldana is a weak celebrity crush. Minus even more points for that.
|
Sorry frank about the spoiler. Fixed that for you.

Watching "Game Night".
This is so weird, dark and awkward I don't think they have the right balance for a comedy nor the right chemistry. It's missing a lot in the laughs department but it could have been a pretty great movie with a bit of heart in it. It seems unnecessarily mean spirited instead of raunchy. It's missing the identifiable bad guys that made the actions of the protagonists in Horrible Bosses so redemptive and justified any schadenfreude. Jesse Plemons is so sympathetic he just makes me think the others are jerks. Still time for them to fix it, half an hour left...better late than never. |
Jesse Plemons saves the movie.
Typical. Never doubt Plemons. |
The ending of the film managed to tie up virtually every concern I had very well. The ending is so much stronger than the beginning and the middle is just weird but it all comes together to make a film I will have to watch again.
Either the makers of this film were given carte blanche or they sold this the hard way because on paper it cannot have been an attractive script. I would have worried big time about financing a film that does what this film does to the viewer if I was a studio head. People walk out of comedies as much as any other type of film and some people won't have the patience for this. Exceptional use of Plemons. |
Game night was my favorite comedy of the year so far til TAG.
|
Super Troopers 2 - 6/10
Didn't realize there was almost 2 decades between these two flicks. That's a long fucking time. It obviously didn't capture the magic of the first one but there was plenty of funny bits but I would think 17 years later they could come up with a better premise and plot line for this movie. Honestly I thought this should have been better than what it was but I mean its a stoner comedy flick so we can't really be getting to pissy about it. I will probably do a back to back viewing some where down the road. |
The First Purge -- 6.5/10
My least favorite film in The Purge series. It didn't flow as well as the other three have. Costumes/Masks were all good, as they tend to be w/ this series. Marissa Tomei was underused imo and I wish that SPOILER: show |
Game over, man 6.3/10
From the workaholics crew this over the top comedy is what you'd expect from this group in an r rated setting. Tons of profanity, drug use and a couple of penises. This movie is basically a workaholics movie with a few tweaks to the 3 main characters but not really very much except one is gay. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination and there is actually a decent co star cast led by Neal P. McDonough who i absolutely love. He will forever be type cast as a villan but he is so deliciously evil i don't mind. The plot is outrageous as are a few of the death scenes but the movie is meant to be absurd, over the top and funny. It hits on all those cylinders in bits and pieces throughout but in the end it really just seems netflix said "we got the money to give you to make a movie but we cant get the rights to workaholics so make us something as close as possible to that without us getting sued." The boys took the free money. |
|
Ant Man And The Wasp -- 8/10
Really fun movie. Great action scenes. A lot of good characters. Cool special effects. Wasp is a badass. |
Sicario: Soldado 7/10
|
Antman and The Wasp: 7/10
Really fun. For a movie about science they spent a lot of time turning it into psudomagic. Could have easily been a Doctor Strange movie. Baring that flaw the movie was great. Good characters. Well written call backs. The Wasp was fabulous though id have liked more of her. |
Ant Man and The Wasp: 7/10
One of those Marvel movies that is just "fine" and you forget about in a few years. Bumped the score up by half a point because I had no idea Michelle Pfiefer was still a smokeshow. |
I thought her from Lost was a very weak part of Ant Man. I may just give this one a miss.
|
Sicario: Day of the Soldado - 3/5
I was hoping with Taylor Sheridan's recent track record this wouldn't fall victim to the "Sequel Curse". Unfortunately it did. SPOILER: show |
I was like “Wait! Ant Man and The Wasp is out already!? How did that sneak past me?” Turns out it’s not out in the UK until August! Unusual, as we normally get Marvel movies early.
|
I am still waiting for Infinity War! Some little girl ruined it for me by walking past the DVD rack and saying
SPOILER: show |
Watched first purge tonight due to Ant Man being sold out and I had a movie pass...so hey watch something
It was ok. I get why they went where they went with it. Not sure why I was supposed to feel connected to a few characters and a lot of it came off as a big hero action movie at times which is not the formula that should be followed. Like I said, it was ok. Also, not sure why everyone had their fucking cell phone vibrate on LOUD when you know for a fact people are killing everything that moves. Maybe there wasn't a silent feature back then... I can't remember. 5.7/10 - Now there's a purge tv show. Lame. |
Moviepass #73 Antman 2 - 5/10 So I just watched thevfirsr one today for the first time (not gonna rate it here) but it got me interested enough in the sequel to watch almost immediately after. The sequel seemed like it didn't know what it wanted to do all over the place ..there was at least some more humor..but really I just didn't like it as much as the first one by a wide margin

Antma & The Wasp: 8.5/10 - One of my more favourite in the Marvel franchise. Good action, good story, good humour, awesome special effects.... cannot ask for more than that....Paul Rudd looks amazing for almost 50 years old....
|
Paul Rudd is nearly 50?!
Jesus I had never even thought about that before... |
Solo, a star wars story.
Oh dear.....it was bad. 2 out of 5 |
Moviepass #74 First Purge 3/10 blah blah conservatives hate minorities blah blah..whatever
Note I have basically 7 weeks to see 10 movies for 84 in a year or 7 a month. Wanted a 100 but not gonna make it won't you be my neighbor Skyscraper Sorry to bother you (eventually) Equalizer 2 Teen Titans MI Fallout Christopher Robin Darkest Minda Spy who dumped me The Meg Mile 22 Happytime Murders Slenderman Which is 13 so I should make it |
Moviepass #75 Won't You Be My Neighbor 7.5/10 from a documentary standpoint its excellent. My GF cried her eyes out for like an hour

I remember this old prank show that thought it would be funny to remove the TV from his hotel room figuring he'd be upset about it and demand they find another tv. A terrible premise for a prank to begin with. Like, were you expecting that anyone, let alone Fred Rogers, would throw shot around the room because the TV was gone?? Anyway....
They have someone show him the room and he's just like "It looks fine, thank you." And they have to point out the gag - that there's no tv. He's just like "Oh, that's OK I don't watch much television anyway." So the host has to come in and be like "we thought you'd be upset." |
So basically they completely undermined the premise by picking a genuinely nice guy.
This makes Zach Braff's child-punching reaction to Punk'd even better. |
The Incredibles 2 - 4.5/5
Brad Bird needs to cut a deal with Disney/Pixar and just keep making good stuff like this. |
Can I please get a few suggestions for films to watch/review?
I'm trying to get into horror but I will watch anything right now. |

"Finishing the Game" |
If you can find this low budget but really good quality movie Lunopolis I'd really like to hear your thoughts on it.
|
Skyscraper - 3/10
|
Moviepass #76 Skyscraper 4.5/10
The first 30 minutes or so were solid and enjoyable and then somewhere after the first fight scene (which was great) the movie just went to shit. Not the worst I've seen lately but its on the list. |
Skyscraper - 4/10
It's big and dumb and I think kids will like it. Then those kids will rewatch it in twenty years and be like 'holy shit this has a lot of plot holes' Neve Campbell channels her inner Sydney Prescott. |
Ant-Man and The Wasp - 8/10
A good stand alone entry. Mid credit scene had everyone gasping. |
Please Seanny, review Lunopolis!
|
Won't you be my neighbor-8/10
The feels. Mr Rogers was a remarkable man. This doc just solidified what I grew up believing. Ant Man and the Wasp-7/10 The shrinking and growing novelty didn't have the same charm but Paul Rudd has undeniable likeability and charm and the ending was great. Mid credits scene was stellar. |
I Kill Giants - 1.5/5
I expected this to be like Sucker Punch but soooo much better. Not even close. |

I'll try and find it this afternoon. I saw Dark City the other day and it blew my mind. |
I can't find it but it sounds like a movie I once watched about half of while channel surfing. It may have been on Film 4 in the U.K.
Currently watching a film called "Delirious" with Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt. This is going to receive a high rating and probably quite a long review. |
Ant-Man & The Wasp - 4/5
Michelle Pfeiffer looks great, the whole cast got about an equal amount of screen time, Hannah John-Kamen is on her way. New season of Killjoys can't come fast enough. SPOILER: show |
Moviepass #77 Unfriended 2 - 1/10
Just barely better than mother! I can't tell you enough about how stupid this movie is. So just heed my warning lol |
Sorry to Bother You-7/10
Working in a call center, I found the first 2/3 of the movie funny and relatable. Then it went into some really weird territory that threw me for a loop and even 24 hours after seeing it, I'm still not sure how to feel about the 3rd act. But it was still enjoyable and funny enough. |
Hotel Artemis 7/10
|
Quote:
The beginning of the third act felt like a trip without dropping acid. Sorry to Bother You - 6/10 |
Moviepass #78 Equalizer 2 7.5/10
I give it a decent score because it wasn't bad but at the end of the day it felt unnecessary as a sequel. |
The new jurassic park movie 3.2/7 decent thats about it
|
Delirious - 4/4
I can't think of a similar type of film that comes close to this overlooked, unheralded takedown of fame chasers and their neuroses. This is a stunning picture about the escalation and self immolation of the fantasists that hunt for publicity in an all-or-nothing attempt at gaining or retaining an audience, a following and acceptance. Tom DiCillo is a name I had heard perhaps but definitely had no idea about and here he has created a work of fiction so concise, so accurate that I doubt I will ever forget him. In fact I should really be looking to experience more of his product because I was enthralled by "Delirious". Steve Buscemi plays off Michael Pitt like mustard on a hot dog and he is glorious as a cheap, unrefined yet deliciously shameless little nobody of a paparazzo against Michael Pitt's beleaguered transient actor-wannabe with charisma pouring from his aura. Nobody wants to know Steve, nobody knows but everybody wants Michael and what the world isn't aware of is the broken promises and unimaginable torments that the truly famous can expect to face when the parasites catch their scent. This is a film about conversations that lead to calamity and misfortune that polishes to a golden shine. Maybe perceptions are best left unexplored and perhaps apathy has had it's day. |
I really really loved Delirious. The chemistry between Buscemi and Pitt shows ability at it's very peak. I cannot stress that enough. This is a film for the fantasists and the dreamers as well as a film about them.

Moviepass #79 (not really*) MI: Fallout 8.5/10 solid movie
*Moviepass was down the whole night so I had to pay out of pocket |
Excited for Fallout. The last one was stellar.
|
RIP Moviepass
They finally ran out of money lol Oh well |
They got a loan! Go while you still can! For freedom!
|
They didn't have but one showing off MI:Fallout. Like 40 miles away. Bastards. Such a great thing.

Moviepass #80 3 Identical Strangers 8/10 solid documentary
And probably my last moviepass movie since its down again tonight |
Teen Titans Go The Movies - 7.5/10
Droford, I almost saw Identical Strangers but didn't feel like to driving the the theatre it was playing at and decided I wanted something light. MP didn't work for me either so I ended up paying out of pocket... It was surprisingly cute. Silly and harmless. Parodies the DC and Marvel flicks a lot, kids would like it. |
Mission Impossible: Fallout - 9/10
I haven't seen such a well made action film in a very long time. Highest of recommendations. If you have Dolby Cinema near you, it's definitely worth spending the extra cash. |
Lego Ninjago Movie - 3/4
I thought this was almost as good as Lego Batman. I love the animation, it's pretty incredible how Lego looks on screen. I watched a short documentary about their methods once and they have a huge database of animated parts which correspond to real-life Lego pieces just for the fact kids will be able to recreate these films at home. I know I'm extremely late in the game for the Lego movie phenomenon but I liked this a lot so maybe it's best for anyone not yet overexposed. |
