Today's News:
1) Update to recent Steam allowing mods to be sold news as it didn't take long before people started to abuse the system and start complaining en masse. One mod so far has been removed due to stolen content while a petition has started for Valve to ditch the new system. http://www.screwattack.com/news/peti...atures-one-day http://www.pcgamer.com/petition-agai...ures-in-a-day/ 2) According to Capcom, Resident Evil HD Remaster has become the fastest selling digital game in company history with around 1 million copies sold so far. http://www.screwattack.com/news/resi...pies-worldwide 3) According to a recent fiscal report from Microsoft, the Xbox division saw a drop of around 24% in revenue compared to the last fiscal year with Xbox One price slashes and a decline in overall console sales as the main reason. http://www.destructoid.com/lower-cos...e-290942.phtml 4) According to Natsume, Nintendo won't be adding any more SNES games to the Virtual Console in order to focus on other classic consoles for the near future. http://www.destructoid.com/natsume-h...e-290933.phtml 5) Box art for Just Cause 3 was revealed by Avalanche Studios recently. http://www.destructoid.com/the-just-...k-290938.phtml |
Why are we not talking about the Gears of War remastered release? Blast from the past baby!
|
It's interesting news and probably the only series I would consider getting that's been remastered, but 2 & 3 need to be done as well, can't leave the story after just one portion.

A bit concerned with what's going on at Camp Konami. Silent Hills getting canceled, the Hideo Kojima rumors, and today, they delisted from the New York Stock Exchange.
Really hoping none of this crap won't effect Phantom Pain in some way. |
Late Night News Edition
Happened a lot sooner than I thought it would but Valve has removed the ability to sell paid mods on Steam at least for the near future. Pretty much admitted they misjudged the entire situation and the backlash from it.
Quote:
Bethesda recently spoke on the situation about why they supported paid mods and it was mostly around the idea of rewarding modders with the ability to make money. Also confirmed the 25% split modders got with the main reason being they took majority share at 45% (Valve took standard 30% Steam fee). Also admitted to the idea being a lot worse than they originally thought. Quote:
|
Given how much work goes into some of those mods, it's a good idea, but there were way too many holes in the implementation.
|
Fuck yea at a new Rival Schools. Remember playing that on PS2 and was blown away at the game. Think it was the combos or something, can't remember now.
|
Rival Schools was pretty cool. Tried a lot of stuff can be refined now.

IF Ubisoft is smart they would build the entire story around DeadSec.
Probably got something more ridiculous in mind. Therefore, I wouldn't buy a sequel. |

$350k.
Is that the going rate for voice acting work for video games? Like to know what celebrities and mainstays such as Nolan North make. |
Bloodstained will rock.

Saw the Division delay coming a mile away. Heard nothing about it in like a year.
|
Does anyone really give a shit about Assassin's Creed anymore? Like, Black Flag was cool, but everything else since then has been gay not pirate stuff.
Also watched about 55 seconds of that new syndicate gameplay video and turned it off. Remember when the Assassins vs Templars conflict was this secret war that dictated course of history that no one but those involved knew about? Video starts with three assassins loudly talking about the war in a pub. Laughed out loud and closed the vid right there. |
Kiss my winter gaming goodbye with The Division being put off.
Guess I'll reserve Mad Max when I grab Witcher 3 next week. |
Frankly I'm surprised Assassin's Creed remained relevant while adding nothing to the table this long. Felt like that since Brotherhood.
I like Victorian setting, though. |
The "build your own crime syndicate/family" is an interesting concept. If it's something along the lines of The Godfather games or some other old school mafia games, I MIGHT be tempted to grab it.
But if it's the same old same old, forget it. |
It's same old same old.

Also, fuck Konami with a jagged rusty dildo, for cancelling Silent Hills.
What the fuck is up lately, with publishers shitting all over the brands, and developers that made them what they are? |
Been arguing that shit for years. Apparently I take things too seriously and should stop being an elite fuck boy. But here we are. Games are shit. Master game designers are leaving and going indy in droves. Good stuff are few or given out in less and less quantity filling out with DLC 'expansions'. And people just aren't enjoying themselves anymore while not knowing what exactly went wrong with gameplay.
But I don't wanna take it too seriously. |

I think you need to do the same. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like I only see you playing the big titles run by giant publishers that are responsible for all of your ire. I think you need to take a break and play stuff like Ori and the Blind Forest once in a while. If only to appreciate that there are still people making this stuff who actually care about the industry. You should buy Ori and the Blind Forest anyway because it's fucking rad. |
Strider is great too, for a "Metroidvania" type game.
|
Quote:
It's why you see I don't play many games and ones I do I stay dedicated to for a while. I'm real big on gameplay experience and seeing it maintain the 'fun factor'. Very few indies build with that in mind. Quote:

Ori's beautiful, btw, I have no qualm with it. But that wouldn't 'lighten my mood' on the industry. Until we see like... a majority of games of the 'Double-A' nature like Ori, I'll be chill.
|
Nothing is wrong with Metroidvania games at all. Even the name of the genre is comprised of two of my all time favorite titles :D
I was merely stating it was a Metroidvania-type game. |
Quote:
Super Meat Boy Limbo Brothers Dust Bastion Trials/Trials Fusion Skull Girls Shank 1 & 2 Fez Geometry Wars Shadow Complex State of Decay Child of Light Those are just off the top of my head, that I've personally played. Not to mention whatever I'm forgetting, and the ones that are upcoming (of which there are MANY on xbox one.) I am exited for Bloodstained, and Mighty No. 9, and Yooka Laylee too. But if everyone did what they did, we would just get an endless stream of games that give new twists on old formulas. Some of the games I mentioned above go much further to distinguish themselves and present something new, than any spiritual successor ever could. Obviously there is risk involved with straying from successful archtypes, and yes, there are a lot of digital games out there that are garbage, because different doesn't automatically mean good. But when different is backed up by great design, and actual thought into making it work, there's nothing quite like the experience. So yeah, if you're talking about xbox's crappy 99 cent indie games I'm with you, but if you're talking about all these digital releases we've gotten over the years? Nah. Have to disagree. Vehemently. |
I see what you're saying. But I'm not too concerned with 'alternate takes' and experimenting with genres. I mean some of my fave games were once upon a time new things, so I'm not against it - it's just... I dunno... boring? Actually I think the thing is I lean toward competitive multiplayer and not many smaller games go for that. I'm fine with shooter, fighter, arcady stuff. Even some of the games you mentioned could be boiled down to mechanics you already valued. I'm a guy who's content with Tetris, and it takes a bit to get me into new games. So I'm not disagreeing completely, many of those just don't do it for me.
I will say Fez is garbage, though. Objectively. Second me. |
