Anthem tried to save some face during an interview with Sports Illustrated saying they have given permission for WWE to use the gimmick even though its becoming more apparent they never really owned it.

Sports Illustrated also reported Matt will only be using a "Broken"-like character in the WWE likely because WWE wants some rights to the gimmick after Hardy leaves.

I don't know that it's as much them not wanting to oppose it as quite possibly just not being financially able to when the opposition phase starts December 19.

Emperor Smeat 11-29-2017 08:51 PM

Even with their current financial mess, Anthem has a lot more money to contest the trademark than Hardy does especially with WWE not getting involved.

More likely they just don't have the paperwork needed to actually oppose it and probably would have been rejected if they used the same paperwork done for their own filings.

The way the case has been going, it was leaning towards Matt as the owner because Anthem waited too long to file a trademark and Hardys using the gimmick outside of Impact.

Mr. Nerfect 11-29-2017 10:42 PM

This is so much fuss about fucking nothing.

Fignuts 11-29-2017 11:38 PM

It's not nothing if it's over. Doesn't really matter if you like it or not, guy has people chanting "delete" in every arena he goes to. Clearly money to be made off it.

Destor 11-30-2017 12:29 AM

Figgy is right...but it does nothing for me so in that i agree with noid.

If it's over. If. It didn't draw in TNA. It didn't even draw that well on YouTube (more people have probably watched the YouTube clip of Bray Wyatt beating Matt Hardy from Raw than have seen the Broken Universe stuff). It doesn't matter if I like it or not, but I'm calling it now -- big flop. Although everyone will blame the company even though the idea itself was fucking garbage from the start.

It might sell a few t-shirts or something, but wouldn't The Hardys already be doing fine in that department? With Hardy as as singles guy, why not give it a shot? You need to stick your finger in the air and see which way the wind is blowing -- but the people still watching wrestling aren't trend-setters and aren't really the sort of people whose opinions you should be listening to, by and large.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-30-2017 12:55 AM

Oh no, it's going to be God awful.

Broken Matt Hardy from the team thst brings you Bray Wyatt promos.... I'm shuddering just thinking about it.

Fignuts 11-30-2017 01:04 AM

Yeah, it will probably be bad no matter what side of the fence you fall on the broken gimmick, but I think enough people will buy the merch regardless, and that's all that matters to WWE.

Mr. Nerfect 11-30-2017 01:14 AM

The Hardy Boyz returning to the WWE has got 22,000,000+ views on YouTube. The Cleasning of Jeff Hardy hasn't reached 10% of that. Just to put things into perspective a bit. And everyone with access to YouTube can see all these videos, mind you. I think internet fans kind of go into a bubble with this sort of stuff.

I actually think the WWE will do a better job than TNA did with it, or could do with it. I think they will trust Matt Hardy's "creativity." I just think it will suck. More people will be subjected to it than ever, and they will ask "What the fuck were you geeks going on about?". If I am wrong, I will readily admit it.

Mr. Nerfect 11-30-2017 01:16 AM

OR it will actually be hilarious watching it fail, and it will fit more within the boundaries of reality, so people new to it will actually find it pretty great, but "purists" will hate it and lament that Matt is not a main eventer, but he'll have hit his true ceiling and will be doing more significant work than he was doing in TNA.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-30-2017 03:52 AM

I don't care if he's a main eventer or not, if the segments are good I'll just watch the segments much like I was doing with the TNA version. But considering most of WWE is bad right now and I very much doubt they will let Matt Hardy do what he wants since they script everyone word for word.

Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but to me it feels like if some Hollywood studio came along and said "Hey, we're remaking The Room! We even got Tommy Wiseau!". We know it's going to suck, but not in the same way that made the original so endearing.

Sixx 11-30-2017 06:51 AM

Just read Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss are BFFs in real life.

They must look hilarious together. Jax is exactly my height and Bliss is exactly my ex's height. Not to mention the weight difference between the two.

Rumor going around the net is Lio Rush might be getting released soon by the WWE. Basis for the rumor involves him suddenly removing all WWE related stuff from his Twitter account which usually tends to be a sign someone got released or is about to get released.

You can't really compare the youtube videos fairly, because one is a video of the biggest wrestling event of the year, and the other is of TNA.

With the WWE machine behind it, I think they can make a lot of money off it. We are still the 2% of the fanbase. The WWE's main demographic is still kids, and they'll go for anyone WWE tells them to.

Emperor Smeat 11-30-2017 10:26 PM

According to the Observer, the reason Anthem dropped out from the Broken trademark dispute was due to Matt Hardy having the paperwork needed to reject any claim Anthem made for the gimmick.

Anthem also felt it was a lot easier and a way to save face by giving their talents all rights to their gimmicks than be embarrassed in court and likely set a precedent where all their talents would own their gimmicks.

Quote:

The story behind it is that the Hardys were able to show financial and contractual digressions which left Anthem in a bad way, and this may be a public saving face for the company of just saying that they are being good guys and will be letting talent keep their gimmicks because of the feeling that it would end up that way based on a precedent that would be set in the Hardys case.

To be fair, Nothing really draws at TNA. Look at AJ. Look at Angle. Look at Joe. All Stars but didnt draw a dime really. Broken Matt is the only chance hes got to stay relevant. Why not at this point?

Rammsteinmad 12-01-2017 03:59 PM

There's no detriment to having Broken Matt in WWE. If it goes over, it makes a bit of money for the company and Hardy, helps him regain some relevance and, at the very least, throws an interesting character into the mix. If it bombs, well, Hardy was going nowhere anyway.

The Edge and Christian podcast is really, really good.

Also, was this Starrcade event on the Network?

XL 12-01-2017 04:54 PM

Nope. At least not yet.

Fignuts 12-01-2017 04:55 PM

No, but anything worth seeing was shown on wwe.com

Anybody Thrilla 12-01-2017 06:33 PM

Why Starrcade though?

Anybody Thrilla 12-01-2017 06:38 PM

I love me some Iconic Duo.

Kairi Sane is pretty tight too.

John Cena has apparently been posting Watchmen-related images on his Instagram.... perhaps he will be in the HBO TV show?!

Just them wanting to boost the attendance of their usual shows in North Carolina. Even with the initial announcement, seemed like it was going to have a small bump at best but once Ric Flair was announced for the show, tickets sales spiked.

Anybody Thrilla 12-01-2017 06:59 PM

Moustache Mountain is a really fun team to watch.

Dunno, I guess I'm just really into NXT these days.

Anybody Thrilla 12-01-2017 07:08 PM

Holy hell, the NXT main even this week was straight up hot FIRE. Kudos to all involved there, and I don't normally dig Mandrews that much.

Emperor Smeat 12-01-2017 08:22 PM

Never knew Macho Man voiced a character on King of the Hill cartoon series.

Don't think I've ever seen this episode on FOX or Cartoon Network/Adult Swim before until tonight.

Watched NXT for the second week in a row after taking a hiatus.... gonna try to get back into it.

Main event was good. Tyler Bate looking like less of a wanker/overgrown midget rassler.

Lock Jaw 12-01-2017 09:14 PM

Forgot how Mauro Ranallo can be good and then unbearable in the span of 10 seconds.

Blue Demon 12-01-2017 09:33 PM

This should be good:
