Iron Man 3

SPOILER: show
Photos from the North Carolina locations for Iron Man 3 have revealed that an organization that has wreaked havoc in the Marvel Universe is making an appearance in the film. The real world headquarters of game developer Epic Games has been redressed for the film as the HQ of A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics), the terrorist group led by power-hungry scientists that was introduced the Marvel Universe in 1966 in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s Strange Tales #146.

The photos posted by ReelMovieNation depicting the A.I.M. headquarters building dovetail nicely with the previous announcement that Guy Pearce would be playing geneticist Aldrich Killain in Iron Man 3 (see “Sin City, Iron Man Casting News”), a clear indication that the IM3 screenplay incorporates portions of the Warren Ellis-penned Iron Man Extremis storyline in which a nanotechnological drug developed by Dr. Aldrich Killain (with effects much like a demented version of the “Super Soldier” serum) has been stolen and put to evil use by terrorists.

Speculation about the plot of Iron Man 3 centers on Killain either working for A.I.M. or having his nano-drug stolen by the scientist-led terrorist organization. Will the M.O.D.O.K. (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing) make an appearance? Will all the A.I.M. execs wear yellow suits? Probably not--judging from the previously released Marvel Studios films, it appears that the studio’s screenwriters mix and match elements from the numerous appropriate comic book storylines to create a narrative that is reminiscent of, but hardly identical to, the actual comic book stories.

How will all this fit in with the character played by Ben Kingsley, who is reported to be The Mandarin? Well it appears that Iron Man 3 has yet to give up all its secrets.

I'm cool with X-Men getting a reboot. XMFC was better than the first three X-Men movies, which were basically all just Wolverine and some people with the X-Men's powers who don't really act like the X-Men. So maybe this time we'll get to see more faithful portrayals of all the characters who don't have adamantium claws.

Also, Days of Future Past was one of the best X-Men storylines ever, so I'm glad to see they're doing that. About goddamn time we get some Sentinels in this franchise.

OMFG @ AIM!

SPOILER: show
Pleasantly surprised about AIM's inclusion. Sincerely hope they don't use MODOK though.

Can't wait to see live action Extremis armor.

The Destroyer 06-07-2012 03:52 AM

SPOILER: show
Ben Kingsley's big bald head as MODOK. :shifty:

I'm still hoping that Iron Man 3 won't suck. Fingers crossed.

Kalyx triaD 06-07-2012 04:16 AM

I've liked both Iron Man movies, and I trust Shane Black.

Replacement for the Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon:

http://i.newsarama.com/images/avenge...ble-roster.jpg

Built to share the universe with Ultimate Spider-Man.

dronepool 06-08-2012 02:00 AM

Fuck Loeb for canceling EMH. It was the best Marvel cartoon near the levels of Spectacular Spider-Man, Wolverine & The X-Men/X-Men TAS.

Kalyx triaD 06-08-2012 02:04 AM

And with this, the Spectacular Spidey/Wolverine & X-Men/Earth's Mightiest Heroes universe is dead. They're live on in DVDs and Marvel vs Capcom 3. Like the DCAU, we will miss it.

Lock Jaw 06-08-2012 02:09 AM

So, new one is Avenger's Movie Roster + Added Token Black Team Member.

Fignuts 06-08-2012 02:11 AM

Wait what, DCAU is dead?

Kalyx triaD 06-08-2012 02:15 AM

JLU ended some time ago.

Nark Order 06-08-2012 02:21 AM

Gutted to hear about A:EMH. Such a great program.

Skippord 06-08-2012 04:20 AM

I am still fucking furious about Wolverine & The X-Men

McLegend 06-08-2012 12:51 PM

Are they at least finishing the season?

Nowhere Man 06-08-2012 01:06 PM

Yeah, they're finishing the season, just not getting a third one.

Kalyx triaD 06-08-2012 04:58 PM

Latino Review now reports that the Iron Patriot armor seen in leaked pics from Iron Man 3 is actually War Machine with a new paint job.

Kalyx triaD 06-08-2012 09:36 PM

If EMH's cancelation was the nail in the coffin, here's pissing on the grave:

Spectacular Spider-Man has a guest spot on EMH this season, and of course he was voiced by Josh Keaton. Was...

His lines have been redubbed by Drake Bell, current star of Ultimate Spider-Man. Not only is the old universe dying, we get dirt in our eye all in the name of brand consistency. This really sucks, as I would have liked hearing Keaton as Parker one last time - and on a terrific show.

I don't care much for Ultimate Spider-Man, and I don't think I'll be interested in the new animated universe (but we'll see how Avengers Assemble and Hulk/SMASH turns out).

Nowhere Man 06-09-2012 01:19 AM

God, don't remind me. Ultimate Spider-Man is a fucking mess, and the fact that they canceled Spectacular to make room for it makes my blood boil.

Inadequacy 06-09-2012 09:09 AM

That's fucking awful

Kalyx triaD 06-12-2012 03:43 PM

About the new cartoons, Hulk/SMASH and Avengers Assemble:

"There are two huge projects that we're working on. The first, we know the impact that The Avengers had — and continues to have — this summer, and there's one particular character who has been the breakout hit of the summer and he's big and he's green and he's our Incredible Hulk. So we started talking about it and we thought what's more fun than one Hulk? And that would actually be five Hulks! That cast is Hulk; the Red Hulk; Skaar, who's the teenage barbarian Hulk, She Hulk — who's actually been a character in the Marvel Universe for 30 years; and a relatively new character, A-Bomb. He's more of a Blue Hulk. And together they are Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H."

"The Avengers movie has been the ambassador to the world for the Marvel Universe so we want a show that has the feel and the tone and the incredible adventures like that movie. So the next project that we're working on — and this is down in our lab, top secret, with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents protecting us at all costs — is Marvel's Avengers Assemble, which will be a brand new and really extraordinary looking animated series dealing with the Avengers in that same world."

Kalyx triaD 06-14-2012 09:12 PM

Apparently, the Oscorp building from Amazing Spider-Man was this close to appearing in the Avengers New York skyline scenes. It didn't make it because much of New York was rendered in Avengers, and the Oscorp building didn't make the cut.

That would be the second piece of news related to a crossover between Sony and Marvel/Disney. Something's going on here...

dronepool 06-14-2012 09:23 PM

Spider-Man in the Avengers could break the Avengers record if done right, they'd be stupid assholes not to allow it.

Kalyx triaD 06-14-2012 09:23 PM

I wouldn't say "stupid assholes".

Kalyx triaD 06-14-2012 09:25 PM

I personally see more potential in a Wolverine cameo. Much rather see Hugh Jackman interact with the Avengers than the new kid. It would seem much more likely from a storyline standpoint that SHIELD or at least Nick Fury has had an eye on Logan and what William Stryker was doing.

What is the first?

McLegend 06-14-2012 09:49 PM

Hugh Jackman in Captain America 2 would be mighty sweet.

Kalyx triaD 06-14-2012 09:55 PM

Kevin Feige had a recent interview about crossovers and had a very different tone about Sony's Spidey franchise in particular, whereas the usual answer was 'no chance in Hell'. I found his language telling.

Once upon a time something like Avengers was wish stuff, and a billion dollars later here we are. I think somebody's looking to make a deal. I also think it would be a less risky, more flexible deal between the rebooted Spider-Man and the Avengers.

This is just my speculation and I just told my roommate this; something big is going down between Sony and Marvel/Disney. And if Fox is looking to get the jump, perhaps something will happen there as well (and it would only include Hugh Jackman).

They have to know that the only thing that could match Avenger's epic concept is adding Spider-Man or Wolverine to the mix, characters currently in their respective studios. But with all that money and hype on the line, pride will be laid aside.

Spider-Man or Wolverine will be a part of the Avengers franchise by the end of Phase Two. That is what I'm thinking.

alvarado52 06-14-2012 11:29 PM

They have to be open to it. The real question is how much Marvel wants those IP's back. At first, it was strongly considered 'b-list' characters Marvel had on their hands (in terms of popularity and marketability), but now its pretty obvious they have the strongest lineup.

Why would Marvel want to share revenue with other 'competitors'? The only way i see them wanting to hear any sort of deal would be to negotiate getting their characters back home.

Kalyx triaD 06-14-2012 11:34 PM

Well Sony and Fox aren't bombing their movies. Raimi's Spider-Mans and Fox's X-Men movies were all hits (some relatively). So they won't let them go easily. A mutual deal for cameos is more realistic right now. After Avengers, Marvel holds the cards. They would be doing Sony or Fox a favor by adding their marquee characters. Much less to gain having Nick Fury appear in Spider-Man or The Wolverine.

Rammsteinmad 06-16-2012 01:30 PM

Enough talk of this Spider-Man/Wolverine/Avengers crossover. I don't think my heart can take it.

Ultimate Iron Man's New Armor:

http://i.newsarama.com/images/NewIronmancutout_02.jpg

Nowhere Man 06-22-2012 04:30 PM

Cyclops's costume looks like he hopped over to DC for a day and raided Nightwing's wardrobe.

The Destroyer 06-22-2012 04:30 PM

What the fuck is Cyclops wearing? That looks awful.

The Destroyer 06-22-2012 04:33 PM

In fact, seeing a Phoenix theme in those costumes in general. I'm sure it's plot related, so best not to explain it I guess. Still running way behind on Marvel.

Nowhere Man 06-22-2012 05:10 PM

Yeah, apart from the logo, they all seem to be on fire. I guess they got a hold of the Phoenix Force.
