That 'studio' is Brianna Wu and she likely pulled out because of recent criticism over her game Revolution 60. Despite getting greenlit on Steam it has been torn apart by gamers due to it's quality. She was expected to present the game at Pax but I guess reality ensued.

NVidia's doing it mostly because of everyone else getting into the VR and/or set-up console box craze and they've been losing the chip war against ATI/AMD for a while.
