Alien Covenant - 6/10

Amazing performance by James Franco. Burned alive within the first 5 minutes of the movie, without even opening his eyes, much less moving.

I did not really know what to make of it.

DrA 12-02-2017 08:58 PM

The Long Goodbye

This was very good I thought. It's based on the Raymond Chandler novel, and to date I've never read a Raymond Chandler novel, but they make for good movies. Robert Altman is one of my favorite "stylistic" directors, all of his movies are set in cool ass buildings and houses and stuff.

Emperor Smeat 12-05-2017 03:06 AM

Doctor Strange - 4 out of 5

Really good overall even though it follows a similar pattern Marvel have been using for their Cinematic Universe films. The first half being slow and mainly spent on building the origin while the latter half is when things start to really move along and act more as the character's showcase.

Donald the Great 12-05-2017 06:49 AM

Last movie I saw was the Brit made psychological thriller Fright. Ian Bannen plays an escaped lunatic who terrorises babysitter (Susan George) while ex wife Honor Blackman is out with her fiancee. Any one seen this fine chiller.

Dr. Strange - 5/10

I loved the shifting landscapes. I liked Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
I hated the plot and the shocking performance of Tilda "Don't put me in comic book films. I stink." Swinton.

The little boy in The Last Airbender should sue Tilda Swinton. He'd have a hell of a case.

Seanny One Ball 12-11-2017 11:05 PM

Bad Moms - 4/10

Kathryn Hahn saved this from the bin. So talented and enjoyable is Kathryn Hahn that I watched an otherwise deplorably bad film. Mila Kunis is quite frankly a terrible actress with no redeeming features in a movie designed to take away her only appeal by ageing her.
Don't cast Mila Kinis in a lead fucking role. She's shite.

Seanny One Ball 12-11-2017 11:09 PM

I'm watching Wild Things for the first time in 19 years. It holds up. Bill Murray is joyous in it.

Damian Rey 2.0 12-12-2017 12:04 AM

Coco-9/10

Loved it. Maybe my favorite movie all year. Very emotional ending, as a parent. So good. Very respectful to the culture.

Seanny One Ball 12-12-2017 12:16 AM

Coco is rated on IMDB's 250 best ever list. I was randomly on that page last night and saw it.

I haven't seen any movies in s while cause my theatre refuses to play stuff like Disaster Artist or Lady Bird but we get shit like Just Getting Started

I gotta admit, I saw this movie and went in with a shite attitude, but the movie wasn't actually too bad. 7.5/10

Droford 12-14-2017 11:51 PM

In anticipation of seeing the Disaster Artist tomorrow with MP I saw the room

The Room - 5/10 falls under the category of so bad its actually not terrible. Wasnt the worst 100 minutes of my life wasted watching a movie.

PapaGeorgio 12-15-2017 07:35 PM

Disaster Artist - 5/10 Wasn't a fan. Most of the laughs in my theater just came from direct references from The Room, the main story just didn't have enough and missed the mark compared to the book.

PapaGeorgio 12-15-2017 07:37 PM

Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond – Featuring a Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton - 4/10 Jim Carrey just came off as a pretentious prick. I don't like method actors who take things that serious.

So bad it's not terrible...5/10...

Sepholio 12-20-2017 07:41 AM

I just watched Howard the Duck for the first time. Saw it on and remembered the scenes in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and figured I'd give it a go.

I....I don't even know what to think. Part of me wants to rate it like .5/10. Another part wants to rate it like 5011/10. So kanefused right now.

The Last Jedi - 9/10

Sepholio 12-21-2017 07:07 AM

Kingsmen 2. 6.5/10. Decent action movie and I dig the whole British thing a lot. Couple things didn't get enough explanation though or exposure. Also wasn't the hugest fan of how much slo-mo they used during fight scenes.

Droford 12-22-2017 12:24 AM

The briefcase fight scene was not as good as the churchbscene in original.

The Greatest Showman: 7/10

Could have used an extra 20 to flesh out subplots a bit better. 90 min run time hurt it. Music was very top 40 which didnt help jackman but efron and zedeya shared a killer number

Pitch 3: 7/10

The sequel 2 should have been....atleast from a soundtrack perspective. Plot was absurd but stay compelling. Farcry from 1 and like 2 desperately needed a male vocalist but i enjoyed it.

Frank Drebin 12-23-2017 08:02 PM

3 Billboards - 3.5/4. Really really good. Kinds veers into the unbelievable (unless thats what they were going for) at times but I enjoyed it lots.

Might be the darkest Pixar flick (Toy Story 3 is still up there). I liked it (I think) but it was odd.

Frank Drebin 12-23-2017 10:37 PM

The Shape of Water - 3 out of 4.

Splash Noir

Plenty of Octavia Spencer "mmmmmm-hhhmmmmm" 's and a villain that isn't totally reviled enough so we made him fairly racist and misogynistic.

Droford 12-24-2017 02:53 AM

Moviepass #29 Shape of Water inconclusive..Power went out 15 minutes before the end. Up til that point I would have said 7.5/10. I had to deduct .5 or for the stupid musical number where she sings it felt out if place even as like a daydream sequence.

slik 12-24-2017 03:17 AM

Bright - 3/10

It starts really well, I couldn't understand the 'worst film of the year' reviews. Then the 2nd hour happened. I don't know if I've ever seen a movie so disastrously fall apart. The 2nd half of the movie is completely incomprehensible.

Not sure how anyone can say this was the worst thing they've seen in a while. It wasn't great and each act is less interesting than the one before but it wasn't total shit. Bad Boys meets Lord of the Rings. Showed promise but overall "meh".

slik 12-26-2017 02:14 AM

The Last Jedi - 7/10

I'm not a big Star Wars person but I liked it! It took big risks with narrative/character (imo) and it will age well (imo).

Damian Rey 2.0 12-26-2017 01:31 PM

Star Wars: The Last Jedi-8/10
Far more interesting narrative wise than its predecessor. Took some risks and went in directions I wasn't expecting. But I loved it.

GD 12-26-2017 02:16 PM

Felt like Rian Johnson gave JJ Abrams the middle finger with a lot of reveals.

OssMan 12-26-2017 05:55 PM

"Coherence"

This movie basically just raised a bunch of questions and had no intention to answer them at all, but that wasn't necessarily bad, was a fun watch with a few other ppl to kinna throw around some ideas bout what's hapnin, spitballin, brainstormin, everyone having a good time.

OssMan 12-26-2017 05:57 PM

also watched

Children
Of
men

again. Wonder if I posted it in here in 2009 first time... LOVE THIS MOVIE... so bleak.. seemed way less dystopian/more realistic than it did when I saw in 2009. Truly truly brilliant.. so many moments where there's something real quick going on in the background that makes everything seem shockingly "stark"... truly truly brilliant... fuck the white dreadlock

Destor 12-26-2017 06:05 PM

The one shots are technical marvels

Lock Jaw 12-26-2017 06:10 PM

Oners are my fav things. I was prob half way into the first oner when i realized just how complicated the shot was...and then there were more...and more. Just blown away by how ace SO MANY moving parts were. Outstanding.

OssMan 12-27-2017 02:15 AM

just wacthed Y Tu Mama También... spent years thinking this movie would be stupid but it turned out to be good, real good. Also similar to children of men where whatever the 3 heroes or whatever are experiencing, like whatever dumb convo, they're very much removed from what's going on outside of their car.. poverty, war etc.. (children of men director mentioned this in commentary) felt like I could identify with this

I like Affleck as Batman, which is something I never thought I'd say or type.

Kalyx mentioned a rumorsite that claims he and Cavill have signed contract extensions. One can only hope. Loved the last 2 Apes films. Third one was amazing. Excited to see Reeves' take on Batman and I think Affleck in the cowl would just add to it.

Frank Drebin 12-27-2017 11:06 PM

Creep 2 - 2.5 out of 4. I liked the first one better but this was ok. Minus .5 star for a solid minute of naked Mark Duplas floppy weiner.

Really dig his unstable character and the minimalist take but a lot of the fun in the first movie was not knowing exactly what he was up to even though you damn well know where it's headed. 2nd one that mystery isn't there since you know what his deal is.

Pretty sure it was an instagram account so i def wouldnt cite it as a source just yet

Bon Cop Bad Cop 2 - 8/10

I enjoyed it. I don't really remember the first one too much, but I think this one was maybe "less concerned" about "being Canadian" and was instead just being a buddy cop action movie which happened to be in Canada.

Moviepass #30 All the Money in the World 6/10
Couple of points
1 - there was a decent an interesting story. But it just kinda fell flat and was at times boring
2 - can't imagine Kevin Space in it after seeing Plummers performance. Spacey probably did the movie a favor.
3 - Michelle Williams almost had a performance worth of an Oscar nod..

Jordan 12-31-2017 09:01 AM

Hateful Eight - 7/10

Solid Tarantino affair, really enjoyed Sam Jackson so I moved onto....

The cast is pretty sweet. I have no idea who Fionn Whitehead or Tom Glynn-Carney are but you got Tom Hardy, Kenneth Brannagh, James D'Arcy, Cillian Murphy and Mark Rylance.

Lock Jaw 12-31-2017 04:06 PM

I thought it looked amazing, especially watching it in IMAX film format..... but I did find the actual story a bit lacking. Like he was so busy and concerned with making it look beautiful that he forgot to put much effort in the story.

Lock Jaw 12-31-2017 04:07 PM

I know people who love the movie, though

GD 01-01-2018 04:15 AM

Passengers - 7/10

I enjoyed that. A few plot holes, and a little predictable (nothing wrong with predictable as long as satisfying).

I put it on after trying to watch Valerian. Neither of the two leads in Valerian have anything going for them and are both detestable. Switched off after 25 mins, so it gets a 0/10 from me.
