Interesting on the different rating too. Thankfully ESRB ratings are just voluntary anyway.

Heh. Assassins' Creed Rogue is looking more and more like the better buy right now over Unity.
I need a smart phone to play the game now? That's crap. |
I think the concept of Rogue is tons more interesting than another AC story from the assassin standpoint.
Thus far the microtransactions and need for apps to open in-game chests is highly disappointing and I hope the "experiement" fails. |

One of the big factors for the new policy was their stock price dropping by almost 13% shortly after the release of Unity. http://www.screwattack.com/news/ubis...eed-unity-flub |
The fact that review embargoes are even a thing is pretty fucked up. Hopefully the next game won't be a pile of shit.
|
Unity isn't that bad. I'm enjoying it. And honestly I've seen much much buggier games get review scores that didn't drop til after release. Fallout 3/NV? Skyrim on PS3? Those games got much better ratings than Unity did, as well, and I find that to be more disturbing. Giving games that are so buggy as to be rendered unplayable at times good reviews at a late date..........that reeks of paid reviews imo.
The Unity situation may have been a bit murky in terms of the timing of reviews, but at least the reviews were fair. |

Not really news, but something cool.
Doom as an isometric shooter. http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/...p55vmbcmdq.png Think it would have fared as well? Would you have played it? |
But then I played almost anything so I would have gave it a try. Is somebody really doing this?
|
Would I have played it? Back then, probably.
Now though, looking back? I don't know. Doom kind of holds that place in my gaming nostalgia as being THE game that introduced me to the FPS genre. Well.. maybe Wolfenstein 3D, but it's all id so we're splitting hairs. It would be weird to me to play it as a different game. Not saying it wouldn't work, but I personally would probably pass. |

Dudes.
Get Volkarr the Viking while it's still up. I skipped it at first cause it only had a 2-star rating, but those reviews were clearly put in by big fat babies who can't handle classic platformer difficulty. It's pretty much Super Ghouls and Ghosts with a Viking. It's fucking rad. And also hard as balls. |

Yeah I like my all black one just fine. I'm not that nostalgic over the original PSX. |

Is it PC-only? One of the big selling points for me on Shovel Knight was its availability on 3DS |
Volkarr is okay. Definitely hard as balls, but only because of wonky controls and/or cheap tactics, not actual difficulty.

I've always found that argument an interesting one. What determines the "right type" of difficulty?

The wrong type of difficulty is when something is just broken. Like Deadly Towers, or Silver Surfer. |
When something devolves me into a raging pile of pain screaming, "WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?!" - it's probably broken.
|
After playing Ice Climbers in NES Remix, I would throw that in the pile of broken stuff. SImply jumping onto a platform is such bullshit I don't know how these fucking eskimos became classic characters.
|
There's some shit in Tropical Freeze that comes really close.
|
Been debating getting that game, but I dunno. Probably just gonna get Bayonetta 2. It comes with the first one, which is pretty awesome.
|
Yes do that.
|
Have you played it?
I mean I know it's awesome, but you haven't said anything about it since it came out which I thought was weird cause you are super into Bayonetta. |
I've only played the demo and yeah I usually do write-ups on that but it slipped my mind, I guess.
Anyway Bayonetta 2 pretty much retains everything you love and doesn't leave you feeling like you're playing a totally weaker character than when you last left Bayo (like how DMC and Ninja Gaiden sequels tend to feel). I assume the demo portion was the beginning of the game, and it really does start like how most games end. Just epic, over-the-top wackiness that is very Bayonetta. Steady 60fps and the WiiU pro controller is ready for quick inputs. Being that we don't have a Wii-U here and we're at the mercy of a bud who comes over, I wish I could dive in wholesale. But take that dive for me. I recently got the DMC HD collection and DMC4 digital. Probably gonna get Korra and Ninja Gaiden 2 another time. Have to rebuy Metal Gear Rising for reasons I'd be infuriated just explaining. I love these hack-n-slashers, man. I do. |
I honestly feel like the WiiU is the best system out there right now. Between the disc games, Backwards Compatability, the VC, the digital stuff like NES Remix, it just blows the other systems out of the water with the amount of games you can play on it.
And it's not a matter of quantity over quality, as almost all the exclusive retail releases have been fucking phenomenal. |
Also, being able play on the tablet while my roomates watch TV is great.
|
Dat Star Fox, tho.
|
And epic open world Zelda

Quote:

"would be"?
You know they're making it, right? |
No I didn't. Guess the WIUsers finally will have something epic.

I'd call Bayo2 and SmashU epic.

Maybe but they aren't Zelda. Except when you play as Link in Smash Brothers.
Never played Bayonetta. I've only played the first Smash Brothers. |

Really wish they'd ease up on the "remastered" editions of last gen games. Quick cash grabs I guess, but to me, unless we're talking Tomb Raider DE levels of touch ups, I dont particularly see a reason to "take advantage of new hardware"
