PPV matches are generally much longer than they were back then. The Attitude Era had few "technical masterpieces" on the undercard from 1998-1999 like they have had since 2002 and back in the "glory days" of the IC Title.

Not to mention they need room for 2 or 3 impromptu, meaningless filler matches with no build whatsoever to fill out PPVs without actually having to put in the work of building more than a couple feuds.

It sucks that they are giving away WWE Champion versus World Champion on free television with zero build up.

I don't know if I hate this more or the fact that Sheamus vs Punk in general was a match they could have hyped for a PPV down the road as new and fresh and they decided throwaway matches on free TV were more important. They need to think about these things. Can you imagine if Flair and Hogan were wrestling on WWE TV occasionally? Would have put a huge dent in the excitement of a WrestleMania match had it happened.

According to Colt Cabana's recent podcast, WWE 13 was never meant to have Punk on the cover. Instead the WWE wanted someone else while THQ had to fight a bit to keep him on the cover.

Punk seems to tease the WWE wanted Cena as the cover star.

Sheamus could have been Cena's replacement for a Champion versus Champion "Hell in a Cell" match. They could have done a Ryback versus Big Show program for the pay-per-view so that they could build up a feud for Survivor Series.
