I'm just saying; while they have the right to make whatever they want that also includes suffering the consequences of exercising that freedom to certain extremes. If they are ready for the almost certain backlash for making something like this - cool. Good for them.
But I really hope they don't come out like they have no clue why people in a post annual mass-shooting country would have a problem about what's essentially an update to Postal. I don't have interest in top-down/isomeric shooter types, unless it's Zombies Ate My Neighbors (and that Expendables 2 game was cute), so in any case I wouldn't play this. I'm also not fond of 'extreme violence for the sake of it' - Manhunt never interested me. What I'm getting at is the gameplay doesn't seem to offer anything special. It's a top-down shooter thing with close-up fatalities. Unless they have a big narrative reveal that will completely swerve us all, we have no choice but to think the violence is literally the entire selling point. I'm sorry but there's just way more risk than reward for something like that. I would need an interview from this guy to see where's he's coming from, though. I could be reading all this wrong. |

A good way to sum up Mordor is Assassins Creed type exploration/objectives with free choice on character development. You can just go slaughter shit all day, or do the missions. The nemesis system is what makes the game. |

Only bad thing I can say right now is that the enviornment is a little bland. Being in Mordor, it's all ruins and black rocks everywhere, but I guess a second less cliche looking place opens up later. Still, the gameplay totally makes up for it. Combat uses the same counter/attack system as Batman and Assassins games, but it's a bit trickier here. I made the mistake of jumping right into large groups of enemies right from the start and ended up dying a few times. You'll be able to do that later, but at the start you have to rely on stealth which is really fun in itself anyway. |
I usually go the stealthy route the first play through. It sounds tight but I'll prolly get Dragon Age next month and pick this up in two years when it's $25 and the graphics and gameplay seem dated.

Let me do a quick check since almost none of the sites I visit had anything about it so far besides Overwatch.
BlizzCon news: 1) Overwatch was announced to be in development at Blizzard and is their first new franchise within the past 17 years. Might be an interesting read for some but a recent study regarding violent games and kids revealed an inverse in the levels of youth violence in society.
The study was based on a 16 year span and showed that youth violence actually rises more when there are less popular violent games than not. Movie violence had more cases where more popular violent films lead to more youth violence but overall was also similar to gaming. Quote:

This would disprove the study entirely as it was results-specific study. Scientific research isn't suppose to have a purpose except for find the truth. Mission research is non-scientific. |

And bear in mind this is only the latest in many studies that disproved the correlation. It's how Thompson was eventually made a mockery of (and I suspect Sarkeesian will meet the same end when studies examine her claims). This isn't groundbreaking news.
