I don’t know how you guys can have the same argument every week for 4 years but major props to everyone

Supreme has now come around to the place I've been at for a while now.

All of you are insane.

Hmm...maybe it's like a comfort argument. Like how Walter Mathau and Jack Lemon sort of needed the other's antagonism in Grumpy Old Men.

Many things in life will change, but wrestling ratings-based arguments will always be here, arms wide open.

The best part is how none of us actually know what we're talking about.

If Jamstar was still around he'd be dropping some REDCARDS rn

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-12-2022 09:36 PM

YO I forgot about Jamstar. Wtf happened to that guy?

Mr. Nerfect 04-12-2022 10:03 PM

The ratings discussions are great. The Meltzer side take the numbers too literally, but it’s more interesting than the actual wrestling.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-12-2022 10:05 PM

It really isn't great. I find wrestling fans like to talk about ratings to sound smart. Typically, it has the opposite effect. The fuck does it even matter? As long as my fave shows aren't getting canceled, I don't fucking care about the ratings.

screech 04-13-2022 10:08 AM

Will never get why rasslin fans seem to care so much about ratings. If I enjoy the show, I'll watch. If I don't, I won't. I have no stake in "the numbers" (as I'm sure most fans do) so it's pointless to drone on about it.

I think he got divorced (damn you, Skippord) and had to "uproot" his life or some shit

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-13-2022 10:31 AM

I don't hate Meltzer because I appreciate his love of wrestling. But hearing him discuss ratings and demos literally saps all the life out of me. It honestly sounds like he does it to legitimize himself. And as we've discussed (and he's acknowledged), the promoters will use the ratings to tell whatever story they wish. It's basically "juking the stats."

He wants to add the "business" element to his journalistic pursuits. And much like wrestling fans, he just sounds like a blithering moron when he talks about the numbers. Moreover, just like the promoters, he uses them to tell the story he wants.

We'd all be better off looking at the numbers at a distance and talking about what's happening on-screen, as fans of most television do.

Fignuts 04-13-2022 12:52 PM

lol I wonder if fans of How I met Your Mother go to Big Bang Theory forums and argue about key demos?

Because its the only tangible argument somebody can try to make that s as product is inferior or superior. But it’s dumb one.

Television nerds definitely talk about how shows work. In a wrestling context, ratings have just been center of that discussion for so long due to Meltzer and the reporting on the Monday Night Wars. Wrestling fans are the only ones who seem to not understand that they don’t work as power levels. But again, that’s probably down to Meltzer.

Wrestling being a live form of entertainment fuels the discussion too. The goal is to draw crowds. Therefore people are going to talk about the crowds.

Okay…then don’t participate in ratings discussion? Some people do care about the numbers. If there’s no show for you to watch, there’s no show for you enjoy.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-13-2022 01:58 PM

Noid is exactly the type of wiener who'd obsess over fucking ratings.

Excited to hear your totally fair and balanced assessment in a couple weeks when it’s up over the previous year.

Now we’re entering the fun period where disingenuous fucks can’t hide behind that. AEW vs. itself is now on. Week one: down 20%. Ouch.

XL 04-16-2022 03:55 AM

It’s a stat that doesn’t read well, sure. Put up against April-May 2021 it beats their rating 10 out of the next 13 weeks. I think this was the period they were moved for a few weeks, just makes the comparison difficult.

Mr. Nerfect 04-16-2022 03:38 PM

Neither the scope nor the growth of this company is impressive.

Mr. Nerfect 04-19-2022 04:19 AM

SmackDown: 2.142 million viewers

Rampage: 482k

AEW got less than a quarter of SmackDown’s audience.

AEW's growth is impressive, Tony is such a good booker!

Jordan 04-19-2022 03:36 PM

When Kenny comes back so will the ratings.

slik 04-19-2022 04:35 PM

1.64 million for RAW

bigger post WM drop than I expected so soon

Jordan 04-19-2022 05:30 PM

Tony send Cody to WWE to tank ratings?
