A lot of people are saying the game has too many grapplers. :|

Kalyx triaD 09-09-2011 11:41 AM

Tekken characters grab a lot. Hugo and Gief grab a lot. They need to get the fuck over it.

Word, it's a new fighting game. The mechanics are not Street Fighter or Tekken. They need to shut the fuck up and let Capcom do whatever. It's like they don't even want this new game to happen. Kane knight, if you should stumble into this thread somehow, this is what I'm talking about.

Tekken is so throw heavy, I don't know what they'll do if Dragunov makes it in. Every other move he has either auto-chains to a throw, chains to a throw upon counter or chains to a throw with additional input. And Abel's anti-air grab is a direct rip off of King and Marduk from Tekken 4.

Seth Killian also stated that the latest build of Street Fighter X Tekken has become "REALLY interesting" in a nod that there is definitely something amazing in the works for the game.

Boomer 09-09-2011 05:33 PM

Cue another game I will probably buy at full price only to have to re-buy it later. It just looks fantastic already, and will probably re-ignite my love for Tekken that I haven't really messed much since Tekken 4 or 5.

Kalyx triaD 09-09-2011 06:58 PM

Why are you re-buying it? Trouble keeping your games?

Boomer 09-09-2011 08:03 PM

No, the SFIV->SSFIV->SSFIV:AE or the MVC3->UMVC3 thing.

Kalyx triaD 09-09-2011 08:07 PM

You mean new characters, rebalances, new systems, and other improvements? For 20$ less than the first game? Just saying.

Boomer 09-09-2011 08:16 PM

I was fine with SSFIV (though I pirated the original), but after that I've grown cold to Capcom and their game structure. I don't think AE is (yet) worth 15, and I feel like my 50 or 60 for MVC3 pales in comparison to the quality of what comes with UMVC3 for 40. Their handling of this "new" Dead Rising 2 game isn't much to my liking either.

I'm unemployed, and I want to buy a game that's going to fucking last. Paying full price for a fighting game and it not being supported with moderately priced DLC over a higher-priced disc release when you probably could just because you feel like it isn't right to me. That's just how I feel.

Kalyx triaD 09-10-2011 12:44 AM

Well the best thing to do in that case, as it was in regard to Capcom, is never buy a vanilla version fighting game (and really this goes for most Japanese fighting games). Wait it out a year (even less these days), and you'll get some cheaper prices update either DLC or retail. You may have to play the hell out of the vanilla version to appreciate certain changes, but at least you know a better one is coming.

Still, I don't think SFxT will have a pseudo sequel like that. If it's like their Capcom vs SNK series, it will have proper sequels (though that means full priced retail).

Captain of Fun 09-10-2011 01:18 AM

Rebalances should be free, imo.

Kalyx triaD 09-10-2011 01:19 AM

Alone yeah, but Capcom likes to pack them with other features. The 2012 rebalance for SSF4 will be free.

But that's the thing. I have bought fighting games at release in recent years (which is extremely rare otherwise, I'm the definition of a cheap-ass gamer) because I want to play it when the community is at its best and I am coming in as fresh as a lot of people are. I literally have no one to play games with in my town anymore, so playing online is going to become more and more important for me to want to keep playing fighting games.

I'm going to buy SFxT release (probably) regardless of how I feel, so I hope you are right about this being the only one until a proper sequel. And I don't want to just blame Capcom either; I just have a fairly poor few of the value of DLC price vs. value in most games, Capcom just does it for things that I would actually consider buying.

That is my point. They shouldn't be packaging it with other features exclusively.

If you want a balanced game, you have to buy their shit, regardless of whether you want it or not. It should be available as a free download for anyone who can't buy or simply doesn't want the latest edition.

Why not? If I wanted to have a marquee title for another year, and I have this fighting game that could use a rebalance, the obvious thing would be to package the balance with new/improved features.

Honestly, AE did exactly what you're talking about. Super owners can play AE owners rebalances and all (just without the new characters/replay enhancements). The download was free. In a better world this would be common practice, hope it catches on.

I'm just relaying precedent so don't hold me to that hardcore. MvC3 getting an update is kinda left field for Capcom (only Vs game that got an update like that was TvC, and even that was between localization). Capcom does pretty weird things now in reaction to industry trends.

From a business standpoint there is no reason not to, because the fighting game community doesn't seem to have the problem with it that I do. And I don't understand why.

Videogame companies in other genres patch games for free. When something needs to be patched, it means something is wrong with the game. So the devs take responsibilty for their mistake, and put out a patch free of charge.

Fighting games on the otherhand, ask you to buy a new updated version of their game to get fixes that would be free if it were any other game. Despite the fact that character balance plays a large part in the game.

That said, there is no sense arguing anymore about it, because as you said, AE offered balance fixes without the need to buy the DLC. Let's hope MvC follows suit, because that game needs fixes far more than SF.

Kalyx triaD 09-10-2011 02:19 AM

MvC3 has a lot of under the hood work (more than SF4>SSF4), so there's no way vanilla owners can play Ultimate owners. Characters have new moves and such. I'm just happy I can enjoy lobbies now, because no spectator is huge turn off for a game I love watching as much as playing.

Still, will probably play this game more anyway.

It should be a very safe bet SFxT won't have an update until at least Namco gets their version of TvSF done which wouldn't occur until another 1-2 years.

If TvC counts for updates then Capcom vs SNK 1 & 2 probably also count. CvS 1 "update" ended up being the PS1 version (more characters) and 2nd Dreamcast version (only in Japan) while the CvS 2 "update" ended up being the Gamecube (EO system) and Xbox version of the game (EO system, online).

Evidence of Sodom in the Rolento/Sean trailer?

http://www.saint-ism.com/wp-content/...fxt_teaser.jpg

People on Eventhubs are arguing over how Sodom could be in if Rolento is going to be Ibukis partner.
I think they're wrong and it's going to be Sean that'll be Ibukis partner. His reveal image will be him throwing his basketball at us.

Then they'll reveal Rolento and then Sodom as his partner.

Kalyx triaD 09-11-2011 11:57 AM

Makes more sense that they'd keep it in the family and Sean would be partners with another Third Striker. Ibuki/Rolento seems random, and so far the pairings have some sense to them (even Sagat/Dhalsim).

Everything about that was bizarre.

Kalyx triaD 09-12-2011 03:42 PM

Well we can gather that Zangief may be Rufus' partner.

Blitz 09-12-2011 05:08 PM

God I hope not. Never got real reveal for Cody and Guy way back when, so I'm guessing they're not in. Hope the same for Rufus.

Kalyx triaD 09-12-2011 05:17 PM

Never call for a character's ban, when you want your own. It's not right.

Loved the trailer. It was pretty amusing. I'm thinking we'll see a part 2 to this trailer.
With all the noise in the dining area, the chef will burst through the kitchen doors to see what's going on. Obviously, the chef will be El Fuerte (maybe in his Mika apron).
Then Law is going to turn up, see the mess of his diner and start fighting people.
At some point Paul will show up and then Mika. Seeing how big a fan Fuerte is, she'll help him out and team with him in the game.

As usual, I've been reading what people are saying about it. A common thought is "This trailer proves Zangief is gay!".
I'm not sure how it does when he shoots out a white liquid everytime Julia touches him and he even does the "I'm spent" droop at one point. You'd have to be 5 to not see what it's representing.

Drakul 09-13-2011 08:40 AM

Characters and Cross Assaults revealed.

Cross Assault videos on Eventhubs (too many to post them all)

Drakul 09-13-2011 01:36 PM

If anyone hasn't checked, all the character art on the Japanese official site has an "evil/shadow" version of the character behind them.

Ono says he'll explain it at TGS. Popular thought is some kind of evil or rage mode.

Kalyx triaD 09-13-2011 02:20 PM

Devil or Dark Hadou infection?!?

Drakul 09-13-2011 02:22 PM

A powered up Zangief/Hugo tag team.

Would be interesting to see how much damage they would inflict.

Kalyx triaD 09-13-2011 02:47 PM

And why the hell is Rolento working with Ibuki?!

Transformations?

Fuck you, SRK, it's happening.

Drakul 09-14-2011 02:00 AM

Very cool. Though i misunderstood Scramble. I thought it was a free for all 4 player fight.

I wonder if the game will have an actual story mode and if it'll be just an intro/ending or if it'll be more fleshed out.

Potential story spoilers if my thoughts are right. :
SPOILER: show
I'm betting Pandora will turn out to be a living thing and be the end boss. If it takes human shape, I'm thinking it'll be a female shape. Pandora is a female name, after all.

Also, everyone thought Rufus would be Zangiefs partner but he isn't because he wasn't shown side by side with Zangief in the trailer like Rolento was with Ibuki.
Mika could still be in.

Drakul 09-14-2011 02:03 AM

Two more Sony exclusive characters, PS Vita only:

<iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/lu3cAaMdQdA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

A 360 exclusive would be good, right about now.

Not if the standard is bland 'superheroes' and cats.
