Nats need to get back on a streak baddd
|
Fuck. Yankees got 1-hit by the Blue Jays today. I know that bats have been bad these days, but I think this is an all-season low.
|
Dreeeeeeew Hutchison!
|
Kelly Johnson traded to the O's from Boston but he still has Yankee stink on him.
Also got Alejandro De Aza from the White Sox. Orioles Magic...number is 21 |
Jays should deal Bautista in the off season along with Encarnacion and go full rebuild. They've got tons of pitching prospects but zero hitting.
|
A's grab Adam Dunn from the White Sox for Nolan Sanburn.
Billy must be some last minute moves to put some distance between Oakland and the Angels. |

Tuesday was pretty erotic, still recovering. |
Astros manager Bo Porter's Labor Day has been extended indefinitely. Got fired today along with bench coach Dave Trembley.
Tom Lawless will be running things until the end of the season. |
Wooo Daniel Norris got called up by the Jays!
|
John Mayberry Jr traded to Blue Jays. Rats. I liked him.
|
I saw Justin Verlander's DONG.
|
I've seen people complain of Porter's firing since he was given nothing to work with. Clearly, the front office set a very clear expectation to lose for some years while they stock their system. Porter was probably canned due not following a more advance statistics based approach to managing, in game decision making, and/or not being on board with an advanced metrics heavy team.

Jays with the win today. Was happy.

Since July 1st..
3 Best Teams in Baseball Orioles 37-18 Angels 36-19 Nationals 33-21 ..included in that time span.. O's went 4-2 vs the Angels and 3-1 vs the Nationals. as Paul Harvey would say.."..and now you know the rest of the story.. of why the Orioles are the best team in Baseball right now" |
Correction* Best Records in Baseball not the best teams
|
Orioles are 2 gb of the Angels for the best record in baseball. But since the All Star Break they have a .5 game lead in record. Also, while you definitely think offense for the Orioles (68 homers #1 in baseball since the ASB vs the Angels 28 homers) their staff ERA is 5th in the American league at 2.99 which is only slightly worse than the Angels 2.88 ERA which is 4th.
Also in regards to Home Runs, its ridiculous that the Orioles have 182 home runs which is the most in baseball and the #2 team (Rockies) only have 160. They've hit 94 more homers than the Royals who are last with 88. |
:| Uehara blowing the save and game to the Yanks.
|
Uehara's a pimp, can't stay mad at him long
|
The Yankees are huge assholes if they don't call up Pat Venditte.
|
I want the Orioles to clinch the AL East next sunday night on ESPN vs the Yankees. That would be the coolest most awesomest thing ever. Magic # is 15 though so it probably wont happen.

Giants/Tigers series starts tonight. Let's get some vengeance for 2012... @Fraze :fu:

Diamondbacks Fire Kevin Towers By Steve Adams [September 5, 2014 at 1:56am CDT] The Diamondbacks have fired general manager Kevin Towers, sources tell Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Towers, who has been in the GM’s chair for Arizona since succeeding interim GM Jerry Dipoto (now GM of the Angels) back in 2010. His job security has been questioned over the course of the season given the Diamondbacks’ dismal performance, which figures to result in their third consecutive season without a playoff appearance. Earlier this season, the Diamondbacks hired Tony La Russa to serve as the club’s Chief Baseball Officer — a position that was created in order to analyze the club’s decision-making process. That move prompted many to speculate that Towers’ days with the organization could be numbered, which does appear to be the case, as Piecoro hears that an official announcement on the move will be coming tomorrow morning. Towers becomes the second NL West GM to be dismissed during the 2014 campaign, as Padres GM Josh Byrnes was let go earlier in the summer. Few of the moves that Towers has made in recent seasons have panned out well. This past offseason, he dealt center fielder Adam Eaton and left-hander Tyler Skaggs in order to acquire Mark Trumbo from the Angels — a move that he felt was necessary to address a lack of power from the team’s corner outfielders. However, the move came just a season after Arizona dealt Justin Upton (and Chris Johnson) to the Braves in exchange for what most believed at the time to be an underwhelming package of Martin Prado, Randall Delgado, Brandon Drury and Zeke Spruill. The Trumbo acquisition, however, was just one attempt at bringing a power-hitting corner bat to the organization, as Towers also inked Cody Ross to a three-year, $26MM pact that has produced little to no gain for the organization. Prado was signed to a four-year, $40MM extension before playing so much as a game with the D’Backs, but that contract looked questionable at best just 18 months later when he was dealt to the Yankees in exchange for power-hitting prospect Peter O’Brien. The team also received little in exchange for right-hander Ian Kennedy — left-handed reliever Joe Thatcher, relief prospect Matt Stites and competitive balance (Round B) draft pick — and then watched Kennedy go on to have a strong rebound in his first full season with San Diego. Towers’ trade of Trevor Bauer in a three-team deal that netted Didi Gregorius — a light-hitting but defensively gifted shortstop — was also the source of scrutiny. The D’Backs seemed dissatisfied with Bauer’s behavior, and he wasn’t the only player whose demeanor didn’t sit well with management. The Diamondbacks reportedly allowed players’ laid back personalities to fuel multiple transactions, including the aforementioned trade of Upton. Ultimately, while Towers’ tenure had its bright spots — the five-year, $32MM extension signed by Paul Goldschmidt looks tremendous for the D’Backs at this point — his run as GM appeared to consist of more moves that served as steps backward than moves that provided a foundation for on-field success. --- Probably should have fired him before he destroyed their roster instead of after. |

homer's awesome

Ron Washington resigns as Rangers manager, citing a personal matter. It has nothing to do with the bad season or drugs. Bench coach Tim Bogar will run things until the end of the season.
Interesting. |
Towers got canned. I wonder if he'll crawl back to the Yankees. NL West is no place for a GM right now.
|
I'm going to be so glad when this Dodgers series is over. 2 games left and the D'Backs are 4-13 against the Dodgers on the season.
|
4-14 now. Nice.

Mets open the season on the road against Washington, who they can seemingly never beat. Then Atlanta, and then home to face Philly. 29 of their final 39 games are within the division, and also wedged in within the final 39 games are visits by Boston and the Yankees.
Good lord. |

MLB unofficially tweaked the new home plate collision rule recently. Umps now can be slower when making the call and runners can be out if the catcher doesn't blatantly cause a collision to occur.

also damn haven't been checking "around the league" etc nearly as much lately... LAA running the F away with the west

Wow, that Jays vs Cubs series was ugly from start to finish. Jays making a nice run

too bad they're 10 games out of first place

Only 3.5 out of wildcard, aka entirely relevant so stop being such a fucking dickhead

Droford also lives on top of Mt. Insufferable

Harold Reynolds said on MLB Network that you can't lead your position in errors and still win the Gold Glove.
Harold Reynolds himself has accomplished that 3 times. |
Wooooo Harold!

I just signed up for the post season ticket lottery. I suppose that less than .1% chance the Orioles don't make the playoffs is low enough to justify the risk of the patented Droford Jinx © but I'm not actually able to buy tix for two weeks, if they haven't clinched by then there's a problem. |
also pissed I didn't bet the over on the Orioles win total of 80.5... would have won already.

Chris Davis suspended 25 games for amphetamine use.
The sky is falling. |
He had a medical exemption last year to take Aderall but didn't renew it this year so its on him.
|
Also the os just walked off the Yankees in the 11th 2-1 after giving up a hr to Chris Young in the top of the inning
|
Of course Chris Young is having some sort of bizarre rejuvenation after doing precisely dick for the Mets all year.

Didn't see this discussed easier, but jesus fuck what a homer bitch the Miami announcer is. Mike Fiers clearly looked upset after hitting Stanton, obviously unintentional. But then when he hit Reed Johnson the Marlins started chirping at him and only then did Fiers get pissed off. Apparently if you hit a batter by mistake, you're no longer allowed to pitch in to anybody else. The Marlins emptied out of the dugout and screamed at Fiers when both hit batters were clear accidents. The Marlins DID have a valid case for being mad at the ump as he called both hit batters swings and misses...but the announcer for the Marlins was like "the Marlins are doing the right thing, you HAVE to stand up for your star player!", "how is Fiers allowed to stay in the game? this is all his fault!", "oh the umpire is now warning both sides, whoopdee doo." and he was incredulous when the Marlins pitcher then got ejected for clearly hitting a Brewer on purpose. It was the type of announcer homerism that would make Hawk Harrelson cum in his pants. |

The Orioles gave Jeter crabs.
*insert joke here* |
Not sure how I feel about the likely potential ALDS between the Os and Tigers. On one hand the O's were 1-5 vs the tigers this year but all 6 games were played by may 14th. Since the beginning of July the o's have been playing .687 ball vs the Tigers hovering around .540.
people will probably automatically give the Tigers the edge based on pitching despite the fact that the O's era is almost half a run lower (3.50 vs 3.99) and since July 1st the Os have allowed 210 runs which is the 2nd fewest in baseball to the Mariners 195. |
After losing 3 of 4 to the Nats, the Mets are finally done. I knew they realistically had too many teams to jump over for the 2nd Wild Card anyway, but that they were only 5.5 out midway through last week just shows that you really don't have to be super good to stay in the race with 2 Wild Cards.
The Mets are 69-65 this season against every team not named the Washington Nationals. When you add the Nats games in the Mets drop all the way to 72-78. Seriously ridiculous how much they've owned them. If they could have figured out a way to play even halfway decently against the Nationals, they'd be right in the Wild Card hunt right now. |
Jacob deGrom struck out the first 8 batters he faced last night, and 13 overall. Sadly the bullpen couldn't hold the lead for him.
Still, I think he almost has to win Rookie of the Year at this point. Billy Hamilton has received more hype and steals a ton of bases, but he's subpar as a hitter. The only way deGrom doesn't win it at this point is if the voters decided he simply hasn't logged enough innings. |
How many innings has he pitched?
|
134.1 over 21 starts. He'll have one more start later this week before they shut him down. He had a brief stint on the DL in early August, but it didn't cost him much as they were just going to shut him down earlier in September due to innings limits. His only shot at qualifying would have been if they called him up earlier than they did.
Anyway, he won't have enough innings to qualify being in rankings. But if he did his ERA (2.68) would be 6th lowest in the NL and he also has an impressive 1.13 WHIP and 3.35 K/BB ratio. Some calculations put him above Hamilton in the WAR rankings, but then again WAR for pitchers is a bit wonky. I think he definitely deserves it but won't be outraged if he doesn't due to the innings. |
Chris Davis helped free a man trapped in an overturned truck.

Adam Jones is running around pieing fans in the stands lol

Jake Arrieta has been amazing

for one night the hub of the baseball universe is between Washington and Baltimore although honestly fuck the Nats...bring on the #beltwayseries

I'll be pretty happy with whatever team makes it from the AL. Angels, O's, A's, Royals, Mariners, etc. all in contention and none have been to the World Series in a long time (or at all in Seattle's case). The Tigers are the only AL team in contention that's been there recently, and I wouldn't mind that as I genuinely would like to see Detroit win something plus that rotation would be hella fun to watch in the playoffs.
The NL will probably just end up being the Cardinals or Giants again. |
Actually thinking about it, the Pirates are the only team in the NL I'd REALLY love to see make it, but it won't be easy. I hate the Nationals and the Giants/Cardinals have been there so many times recently it'd feel a bit meh. I guess the Dodgers would be ok simply because Kershaw in the World Series would be fantastic.
|
Every AL East team that's won the Division by 13+ games has advanced to the World Series.
|
Angels beat the Mariners and then later on the Rangers stun the A's in the 9th, which clinches the West for the Angels.
What a second half collapse by the A's. Really sucks, it's a likable bunch. At least if they get in the Wild Card they have a great group of starters to choose from for the one-game playoff. |
I'm calling Detroit/Seattle in the WC game cause Detroit looks awful too. Oakland doesn't deserve to be in it the way they've been playing. how do you give up 6 runs in the top of the 9th off your closer to Texas? The shots of their dugout looked like someone had killed their dog.

I wonder if Girardi has any regrets about not moving Jeter down in the order in like May/June. Was such an obviously smart baseball decision but it seemed that the powers that be demanded Jeter continue to hit near the top during his retirement tour.
Brutal season for him. Wouldn't be surprised if he finds a way to have a good final homestand in the Bronx at least. |
here's to hoping the O's can hold him to 0-12 next week instead of the 0-11 with a walk like they did last weekend

A's hitting declined badly with the loss of Cespedes while the Tigers hit a really bad slump and for a while lead to them handing the division away to KC. |
For those who frequent minor league baseball games, a bunch of teams changed affiliations today.
For almost 20 years, Minnesota sent their Double-A talent to New Britain here in Connecticut. Today they pulled out. The Rockies are now affiliated. Which feels a bit weird. But it'll take some getting used to. |

The Mets swept the Braves in Atlanta for the first time since 2007, ending the Braves' Wild Card hopes. Less than 24 hours later, the Braves fired GM Frank Wren.
|
Mets exercise their option on GM Sandy Alderson and are working on an extension. They're also gonna keep manager Terry Collins around.
We go live to Vito Cruz for his thoughts. |
What the hell did Frank Wren do to lose his job in Atlanta? Caught me off guard.
Another opening Eppler might called in for an interview for. |
I'm guessing Wren had to fall on his sword for the BJ Upton and Dan Uggla signings. Just huge albatrosses. He should be commended for locking up much of their young core for relatively cheap, though.
Fredi Gonzalez should have been the one to go I think. He seems like an idiot. |
Quote:
The hitting is still worrying because Sandy has zero money to spend this offseason. Wright and Granderson will take up 40% of next year's payroll, so they both need to bounce back in a big way. Murph was great this year but with only one year of team control left it wouldn't surprise me if he got dealt (possibly combined with a pitcher) in exchange for a left fielder. Collins...mehhhhhhhhhhh. The team seems to like him and play hard for him but he tends to have a hard-on for veteran players especially early in the year. Plus he's 65, tough to picture him leading the Mets into the next decade or anything. I'd love Wally Backman but it's clear the Mets will never hire him as a big league manager. |
