Their TV stuff from the 90s and 2000s, but their animated movies were not there before. Planet Hulk, Hulk Vs, Ultimate Avengers 1 and 2, Next Avengers, Dr Strange, Invincible Iron Man, and Young Thor.

Only because it got renumbered. I think it hit issue 50, then picked up the numbering of the original X-Factor series so skipped straight to 200. By my count that means the current series has been running for maybe 85-ish issues and is still going.

Good series, but I've fallen way behind with it.

Nark Order 04-22-2012 09:50 PM

Holy shit. 25 issues in on Joss Whedon's run of Astonishing X-Men and I've loved every second of it so far. I'm a sucker for the Kitty storylines though. Also, Cyclops really gets developed as a character much more than I've seen so far. They do an incredible job of playing off of his bitterness spawning from Jean and his slight jealous towards Logan.

Kalyx triaD 04-22-2012 09:56 PM

Yeah Astonishing's early runs were terrific.

Fignuts 04-23-2012 12:58 AM

Whedon's run on astonishing, is for my money, the best run on a book in the last decade. After he and cassidy left, the book was garbage. Hated the new artist, and the dialogue and character interactions were cardboard and boring.

Though Brubaker's run on Captain America is VERY close.

Nark Order 04-23-2012 01:11 AM

Yeah, started reading Astonishing #25 and wanted to fucking puke. I love Joss Whedon because he uses EVERY tool at his disposal for the most part. He doesn't just focus on the top-seller characters, he develops everything and everyone relevant. Really makes for a great experience.

Might start reading Runaways soon. Read #1 a couple days ago.

Lock Jaw 04-23-2012 04:48 PM

Runaways was pretty good, but never got quite as good as the first volume.

Wait what...?

Fignuts 04-26-2012 02:53 AM

what is that from?

Kalyx triaD 04-26-2012 03:01 AM

Marvel 616 Universe

Fignuts 04-26-2012 03:04 AM

I meant what book.

Kalyx triaD 04-26-2012 03:09 AM

Secret Scars or some shit.

Fignuts 04-26-2012 03:12 AM

I take it's a sequel to Secret war?

I've got the hardcover of that one. Phenomenal artwork. This, not so much.

Kalyx triaD 04-26-2012 03:24 AM

Don't think so. Deals with SHIELD quite a bit, and introduces the mainstream Nick Fury (as 616 Fury's son) and Agent Coulson.

Nowhere Man 04-26-2012 06:58 AM

That is......that's so goddamn stupid I want to hit someone.

Rammsteinmad 04-26-2012 07:05 AM

So is Samuel L. Jackson Nick Fury coming into the 616 universe?

El Fangel 04-26-2012 07:11 AM

Nads texted me last night and since I got a new phone I didn't know who it was, all it said "What you doing tomorrow?" While waiting for a response I fell asleep and woke at 530am and responded.

Don't know why I thought I would get a response that early, anywho, probably heading to Giant Robot to pick up AvX #2 today.

Lock Jaw 04-26-2012 01:28 PM

Introducing Agent Coulson makes a lot of sense, but having Nick Fury have a black son who looks pretty damn old already, and is also missing an eye, makes no sense. Retcons ahoy!

Nark Order 04-26-2012 01:33 PM

I might be "out" after the first AvX "fight" comic. Pretty fucking stupid, to be honest. i don't know what I was expecting but god damn, it is just so dumb.

Inadequacy 04-26-2012 02:08 PM

Oh that's from Battle Scars

Kalyx triaD 04-26-2012 02:11 PM

I kinda like Secret Scars as a title, still.

Inadequacy 04-26-2012 03:15 PM

Someday Kalyx.

But yeah, I guess that's Nick Fury's son Marcus Johnson, I don't think he was always bald or patch'd.

Been hopping around series like a madman but that's the way I like it. Decided I wanted to catch up with Spidey so I'm starting Amazing Spiderman from Brand New Day (Issue #546). If there's any single issues or storylines I should read or catch up on before 546, let me know. I've never followed much of the web head before cause it seemed a bit intimidating jumping in to a huge numbered series like that.

Inadequacy 05-03-2012 10:29 PM

I jumped on to spiderman during the Back In Black storyline.I think you should give that a read. It's got some decent stuff in it which I was disappointed to see retconned out.

That being said I was certainly a fan of the brand new day "villain of the month" formula. It let a ton of great artisits and writers work together and tell some fun stories. In fact it was this that got me back into reading comics full time.

I think the only really lame thing to happen in Spiderman in the last few years has been origin of the species. One moment in time was kind of a disappointment, but Origin is just the worst.

Kalyx triaD 05-03-2012 10:37 PM

New Spidey trailer is nice.

Fignuts 05-03-2012 11:02 PM

Did not enjoy spidey from the clone saga all the way to brand new day. Exception being when he went public with his identity. Thought that would freshen up the character, and give him lots of new types of stories to work with, but One More Day cancelled it out.

I want to say that I like the idea of Pete not being with MJ anymore, but the execution and fallout of the story was abysmal.

I still don't even understand how that works in relation to all the other books he's in.

Fignuts 05-03-2012 11:03 PM

Halfway through spider island and it's pretty great, I gotta say.

Lock Jaw 05-03-2012 11:07 PM

I am not all the way through Brand New Day, but have to say that I loved it since the beginning. Way more "interesting" and "compelling" than any other Spidey I had read.

Reavant 05-03-2012 11:31 PM

The side books like Venom and heros for hire tell the story of spider island better than the spiderman books

Yeah. Really love the visuals they're creating. In terms of colour palette and what have you. It looks comic book-y without looking totally fake. And I continue to love Andrew Garfield as Parker.

The slow motion skateboarding tricks give me a little pause. I'm still in, though.

Rammsteinmad 05-06-2012 05:11 PM

Just watched Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Wasn't brilliant, but wasn't as bad as a lot of reviews made it out to be. Not really better or worse than the first one, either.

My biggest complaint, similar to the first movie, is that there's really not enough of Ghost Rider cutting loose. All the fights consist of him whipping his chain around and riding his motorcycle. I mean, he defeated Blackout in about a minute, and he even beat the devil guy (can't remember what he was calling himself) with no fight whatsoever.

Not a hater of Nicolas Cage, but I never really thought he was right for this role.

But on a positive note, the CGI is pretty good. Especially the Rider himself. He looked pretty fucking awesome. Kinda wish he'd spoke a bit more, and thought his Penence Stare was pretty crap. The first movie got it right, with the glowing eyes, the flashbacks of the evil stuff the villain had done, but here, he pretty much just looks and growls at people while they look scared, but the non-GR fans will have no idea what's going on. This is especially the case with the fight with Blackout.

Overall, it was alright. Nothing amazing, but then anyone who actually goes into a film about Ghost Rider expecting The Dark Knight deserves nothing less.

Kalyx triaD 05-06-2012 06:01 PM

I liked it better than the first.

Rammsteinmad 05-06-2012 08:12 PM

AAAAAND just finished watching X-Men: First Class. Now I'm fully up to speed with my Marvel movies.

Fucking loved this movie. Ah, I remember how we all mocked it when it was first announced, and how Magneto with his helmet looked stupid in that picture. But this movie was awesome. After one viewing I'm not gonna say it's better than the others since I've enjoyed all the X-Men movies (Including 'Last Stand' and Wolverine), but this was definitely a great movie, which ended perfectly setup for a sequel.

Felt really tragic and sad throughout the whole movie, knowing how things will ultimately end up. Very much like how powerless we all felt watching the Star Wars prequel trilogy, knowing that Anakin will eventually turn into Darth Vader.

I have only one issue with this movie. Only one. It's small, it's silly, and it's really meaningless, but it's also fucking huge to me that from the moment I saw it, I couldn't stop thinking about it!!!

http://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/t...st%20Class.jpg http://static.moviefanatic.com/images/gallery/beast.jpg

Just thought Beast looked really stupid and goofy in this movie! I can understand they were trying to capture more of a 90's-look Beast, before his mutation fully evolved and he looked more animalistic, but it really didn't translate so well on the big screen in my opinion. 'Last Stand' Beast looked fucking awesome, 'First Class' Beast looked really cheap and goofy.

Overall though, great fucking movie! Sequel apparently starts filming in January 2013! Can't wait for this!

Rammsteinmad 05-06-2012 08:25 PM

So, with the recent success of Thor, Captain America, *ahem* Ghost Rider *ahem*, X-Men: First Class and of course The Avengers, and with Spider-Man just around the corner, this is why Marvel is so far ahead of DC when it comes to movies.

Yes, DC has the Batman trilogy, but once The Dark Knight Rises is out, their hype machine will likely die down a little.

Marvel on the other hand, are already well on their way to giving us another Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, FUCKING AVENGERS and X-Men, and surely we haven't seen the last of Spider-Man. Plus we have The Wolverine, which will hopefully have some kind of reference to the X-Men movies, since it's pretty established now that despite continuity errors, these movies are all part of the same X-Universe.

Great fucking times ahead for Marvel fans. :D :D :D :D :D

P.S. Someone posted this on a previous page, but it's a good point to bring up. It's really sad that something I got ridiculed and mocked in school for reading and collecting has now become a worldwide sensation.

P.P.S. On the other hand, it's great that two of the biggest, highly-anticipated movies this year, and of recent years, are both comic book movies. Considering the state the comic world was in 15 years ago, it's really cool to see how huge these things, the comics themselves and the movies, have become. :)

Kalyx triaD 05-06-2012 09:25 PM

Yeah, it's a good time to be fans. I'm happy non-readers can enjoy it, too.

The next Superman movie comes out next year I believe.

Rammsteinmad 05-07-2012 07:04 AM

But so far, DC have only really been able to have success with Batman. No doubt this will get hype because it's Superman, but still, Marvel are just way ahead of DC at the moment in terms of movies.
