I have less vivid memories of that.

Rikishi was amazing and on his way to legendary status before that career derailing heel turn. And I don't mean legendary main event status... I mean upper mid card hot act main stay which would have been great. Could have slotted into main events and whatnot. Crowd fucking loved him and was mucho let down when he turned heel in such an ill thought way. Honestly, I guess you could have had him turn heel with a build, and NOT be the guy who for no reason ran over Stone Cold but dear god that was bad.

I can understand why they attempted the heel turn. It was Stephanie McMahon's first real go at creative, wasn't it? The fun babyface act has a ceiling, whereas tapping into this darker personality, ideally, allows for Rikishi to be upped to a main event role. The problem with the whole driver angle is that you have Austin coming back and needing some shine, while Rikishi needed to establish himself as a heel. Anyone in that position probably would have flopped as a heel once Austin kicks their ass.

That being said, there were problems with heel Rikishi anyway. He's far from the most talented member of his family in the ring, and his personality basically evaporated in the role. It was ill-advised, but I can understand the ambition there.

Yeah for sure. Just randomly having him run over Austin for no reason wasn't how you do it. A good heel turn could have done the trick.

IE. having him getting disgruntled with Too Cool for "holding him back", but actually drawing it out, and having him throw Scotty 2 Hotty thru the barber shop window.
