Drakul 06-08-2014 07:56 PM

It would have made me very interested in the game. The demo did absolutely nothing for me, though.

Kalyx triaD 06-08-2014 08:14 PM

It's a very well made action game. Under the hood it's actually something akin to Devil May Cry or Bayonetta.

Drakul 06-08-2014 08:17 PM

Maybe I didn't give it a fair chance but it just didn't click for me.

Kalyx triaD 06-08-2014 08:20 PM

Yeah it's really strange at first. People would expect a platformer or something more casual by the looks of it.

Drakul 06-08-2014 08:26 PM

I expected a cross between Pikmin and maybe light RTS. Didn't seem to be either.

I just don't see the point in saying that. The tracks are where you can get really creative, and affect the gameplay.

Always reminds me of the boat level in the MoH where you're undercover and the German guard says that. In English, aswell. You press the button to show your papers but the animation makes it look like your shoving them right in the guards face, like you have some anger issues. "Here are my papers! *presses and rubs them against guards face* Satisfied?!"

They've done land, sea, air and antigravity. What's left without getting really ridiculous?

Kalyx triaD 06-09-2014 04:33 AM

They haven't done sea per se, as those sections are functionally still road racing. Sonic All Stars and Diddy Kong Racing did water racing.

Sepholio 06-09-2014 06:04 PM

A new Diddy Kong racing would be awesome.

Or at least a Mario Kart game that has a 'hub-style' overworld map with secrets abound. That would be epic.

Cool King 06-12-2014 09:44 PM

I'm reading some stories about how a new Xbox One advert featuring Aaron Paul is making people's Xbox One's turn on when Aaron Paul says "Xbox on".

It reminds me of that video a guy made of another Xbox One advert, that had a women in it say "Xbox, go to Dead Rising 3" and the guy's Xbox One launched Dead Rising 3.

Drakul 06-13-2014 02:34 AM

Is that advert with guy that seem to be an overgrown arrogant fratboy? Who the hell answers their phone with a semi-aggressive "Yo!"?

If the advert had sold me an Xbox one, that "Yo!" would undo it.

Drakul 06-13-2014 02:36 AM

Oh and that snap tv thing seems a little useless. My tv can do that on it's own anyway and I can have my Wii U and 360 onscreen at the same time.

...stil useless.

Drakul 06-13-2014 06:13 AM

Brain Training is free to download on the Wii U until 10th of July. This is in Europe and Japan. No idea about the US.

Weekend News Edition

One version of the Steam Machines revealed to be a handheld and will be called the SteamBoy. Its being developed by a company called SteamBoy Machine studio.

Quote:

The device will feature both WiFi and 3G network models, but no additional information was given at the time.

“SteamBoy is the first device that allows to play Steam games on the go,” the team mentioned in a press release. “You will keep playing your favorite games at the bus, the office, the school or the doctor's waiting room.”

The device looks similar to a Steam Controller and a PlayStation Vita combined in a strange-yet-comforting hybrid. It features Steam Controller’s two touchpads, eight action buttons, four triggers and two additional buttons on the back. According to The Escapist, the device will likely feature an APU setup with quad-core CPU, 4GB REM, 32GB built-in memory and a 5” 16:9 touchscreen.

“SteamBoy won't be as powerful as other announced Steam Machines in the same way [the] Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita performance is not comparable to Wii U or PlayStation 4,” a SteamBoy Machine team rep told The Escapist. “However, it will be possible to play the majority of current games in Steam.”

There's very little to convince me Microsoft knows how to operate Japanese developers. They'd have the franchises and put out Westernized games under their banner - AKA what got Capcom in the shithole to begin with.

I much rather Sony or Nintendo.

According to Game Informer, your likely better off on average just buying select games from PSN or retail stores than renting them using the upcoming Playstation Now service based on the beta.

GI's chart comparing around half the games available shows the 4 Hour option and 90 Day option as the source of pricing problems.

"Interactive drama" games are basically modern equivalents to laserdisc games like MadDog McCree, aren't they?

Or the recent "The Walking Dead" Telltale serires and/or "The Wolf Among Us". Watch, occasionally have a real-time event, repeat. Walking Dead was done reaaaaaaaaaaaally well though :)

ClockShot 07-02-2014 08:04 PM

Airtight folded. What a shame. Murdered: Soul Suspect was alright, but given time it could have been better.

Kalyx triaD 07-02-2014 09:25 PM

I'm thinking something closer to the Walking Dead games, myself. Not that old interactive DVD shit.

Mad Dog McCree <3

Drakul 07-03-2014 04:12 AM

I thought Walking Dead was like Sam & Max or Maniac Mansion style.

Drakul 07-03-2014 04:25 AM

Monkey Island has had it's revival. We need a new Maniac Mansion.

At its most technical, Walking Dead is a point and click/quick time event/quasi-survival horror with branching paths.

And it is very fucking good.

Drakul 07-03-2014 05:06 AM

I got the first episode free but never played it as it doesn't appeal to me.

Something less zombiefied and serious would be more my thing but the two examples I've seen of the genre have seemed very serious and dark.

Fignuts 07-03-2014 10:24 AM

I didn't get into it either, but I wasn't really in the mood at the time. Might give it another shot given the amount of praise that's heaped on it.

Maddog actually took some skill though to shoot. Walking Dead games are too easy.

Kalyx triaD 07-03-2014 03:35 PM

It's not a shooting game. Those portions are more or less point and click from first person.

I have MadDog McCree and Dragons Lair on dvd. They came in a magazine I got years ago. They are literally just interactive movies. I think the modern equivalent is games like Ryse, Heavy Rain etc where you appear to be just getting pulled along a lot of pre-scripted events and press the right button when prompted. They may not be as devoid of gameplay as the laserdisc games I mentioned but they seem pretty close. I admit I've played neither Ryse nor Heavy Rain but from the gameplay I've seen and what I've heard about from those that have played them, the comparison seems accurate.

Walking Dead, I know has more to it.

According to a report on GamesBeat, the retail giant recently met with investment company R.W. Baird to talk about the company's future, and one of Baird's analysts has revealed some of the things that they spoke about.

"[GamesStop] indicated that software publishers are more enthusiastic about partnering with it," Baird's Colin Sebastian wrote. "For example, by offering exclusive content on each major game release, and longer term, future models may include GameStop offering exclusive gameplay."

GamesBeat asked him to clarify what exactly that "future model" meant, and Sebastian added the retailer is thinking about "getting involved at the time of game development where there could be some content exclusive to [the retailer] included in the game."

So if you thought it was stupid that peripheral content like skins and maps was split up between retailers, just wait until GameStop can offer actual parts of a game you can't get anywhere else. Then wait for Walmart and Best Buy and Amazon to catch on. It'll be great.

We've contacted GameStop for comment, and will update if we hear back.
I REALLY hope that pre-orders do not go this way. The industry starting to nickel and dime every tiny thing is putting a damper on my happy time :(

So with Crytek purchasing Free Radical back in 2009 and gaining the rights to the TimeSplitters series, I now hope that if Deep Silver purchases Crytek, they can also gain the rights to the TimeSplitters series, and finally TimeSplitters 4 can see the light of day.

I think DLC started off well, but kinda took a shitty turn when "on disc" content was being locked behind the DLC Paywall. I don't think it would play out as written above, but I don't believe it is too far fetched either. The industry as a whole is a multi-billion dollar industry and like everything else, some people/companies/whatever will try to exploit it for what they can.

Never thought that Netflix would be forced to pay more to an ISP to carry their content either, but yea.... fuck Comcast too. 10 years from now, high speed is going to be more expensive and will have "tiered apps" access much like their cable TV offerings do now.

Comcast already has multiple high-speed tiers at different price points. Unless I'm missing what you are getting at here.

Also, high speed internet is going to be much cheaper in the future.

Kalyx triaD 07-09-2014 02:47 AM

When Comcast strangles companies to pony up for the "high speed lanes", the cost will come out of our ass. Netflix already raised its price in response. Internet will be cheaper, but it won't mean much when XBL and PSN become 90$ a year and Hulu is 20$ a month.

Yes, I know they have different speeds silly. I meant that they will decide which of those tiers gets access to specific apps such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. They already cornered Netflix earlier this year and said "Hey, you want us to keep offering bandwidth to stream your service to Netflix customers? GIEF US MOAR MONEYS!" And Netflix basically had to cave. The result, as Kalyx said, Netflix raised the subscription prices.

Also, with the demand of social networking (and how widely used it is), more streaming, the infrastructure upgrades that will be required to maintain the current level of service will be massive. That cost will be forwarded to the consumer, just as in any other market. Translated to nerd

The IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Bandwidth Assessment report, which precipitated the launch of the IEEE 802.3 Industry Connections Higher Speed Ethernet Consensus group in August 2012, forecasted that networks will need to support 58 percent compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) on average. Driven by simultaneous increases in users, access methodologies, access rates and services (such as video on demand and social media), the report said, networks would need to support capacity requirements of 1 terabit per second in 2015 and 10 terabit per second by 2020 if current trends continue. These open Industry Connections efforts helped build consensus on the need for an Ethernet solution beyond 100 Gb/s and to launch a "call for interest" within IEEE for a study group to explore development of a 400 Gb/s Ethernet standard.
http://standards.ieee.org/news/2013/..._ethernet.html

1TB/sec ethernet - nuff said.

Also, faith in Google fiber will need to be bundled with faith in your local city willing to lease Google space on their poles. Seeing as how AT&T and Comcast/Time Warner has a stranglehold on the majority of said poles, the Kansas City debacle is just the start of the difficulties they will face for national implementation. Even at that, they will be limited in their services because they are not licensed as a telecommunications provider. Their entire scope of that project will need to change before they can massively launch their fiber on a national level.
