Very good episode.

#1-norm-fan 02-02-2017 04:42 PM

The first paragraph of that is confusing as shit. Please edit.

For the first episode, it is a career retrospective on Bill Goldberg. It was a very relevant topic for the first episode with Goldberg being back in the ring for the first time in over a decade. This show continues the trend of listener contributions by having topics voted on by the masses on Twitter. The first episode was not voted on but it probably would have won hands down in my opinion.

It's confusing because of the choice to not have a vote. I've flipped the first sentence to the bottom of the paragraph though.

:y:

A necessary correction.

Maluco is sort of right about not relying on older wrestlers as your main source for high profile matches at least in a modern WWE sense.

Historically it used to be the real big pushes and money making moments didn't happen till your late 30s but almost no company had as tough of a touring schedule as the WWE especially in modern times. Way too much wear & tear from it which affects older wrestlers a lot more.

WWE's current trend for high profile matches to be a lot more high tempo and hard hitting also does no favor for older guys without needing to go in the part-timer route. Not even Cena is immune to this which is why he's been more of a part-timer in recent years because the wear & tear started to affect him a lot.

Doesn't mean older stars can't produce great matches anymore but your going to be very limited on how many they can produce before breaking down (ex. Sting) or need long breaks (ex. Taker) in the WWE. Roode being 40 means his shelf life for top quality matches is going to be small and same goes for Nakamura and other older stars from NXT.

Exactly this! Plus, while I appreciate the two examples given, I did say mid-forties on, which is extremely rare, and the two examples given are arguably the two best wrestlers of all time.

Even 20 years ago in WCW, how many older guys were stinking up main events every week? The wear and tear in on another level now

I am just saying, you want memorable Bobby Roode matches in WWE? Get him up now, while he can still give you 4-5 years of them.

According to PWI, Rock N' Roll Express are rumored to be among this year's class for WWE's Hall of Fame.

Brings the total to 9 so far for confirmed and rumored names.

Tony seems less "knowledgeable" and agreeable about whatever is thrown his way, but he's fucking funny.

Mr. Nerfect 02-02-2017 09:32 PM

I posted this in the WrestleMania thread, but I really hope Cena keeps the WWE Title until WrestleMania and defends it in a Triple Threat against Orton and Styles. It isn't something I would have booked from way back in November, but given where the pieces currently lie, I think it would feel like the most "special" thing they could put forward. Cena and Orton represent an older era of WWE Superstars, and while AJ Styles is the same age as Cena and older than Orton, he's "fresher" and represents change with a mature face to achieve it.

As for Wyatt? Put the IC Title on him. It does nothing for Ambrose. Wyatt can cut promos about how Bray has already secured one singles title and Orton is going to secure the big one at WrestleMania, which doesn't bother him because he's a selfless ally. Luke Harper challenges his former mentor Bray Wyatt as Bray cuts promos talking about aimless Luke Harper was without him and that he turned a lost boy into a monster. Cena or Styles eventually pumps up Harper by reminding him that he is one of the biggest bad-asses they have ever seen and he had a legion of fans before he even stepped foot into The Wyatt Family compound. Bray's been using him and it is time to break free.

Bray expects Harper to back off at WrestleMania, but Harper gets that crazed look in his eyes and just KILLS Wyatt for the first portion of the match. Heel strategies allow Bray to fight back and he screams "There's a monster in me too!" He goes to do his spider walk and Harper sits up and sticks his tongue and laughs at Wyatt, freaking out the Intercontinental Champion, who is eventually beaten down, given a Discus Clothesline caught into Sister Abigail for the pin.

After Orton fails to win the WWE Title in the main event (even though it is John Cena that taps out to the Calf-Crusher), Bray Wyatt blames The Wyatt Family's lack of success on Randy Orton at WrestleMania. He points Orton after Harper and demands that instead of focusing on the WWE Title, he brings the IC Title back to their ranks. Orton vs. Harper is goes more violent than their past matches, with Harper retaining the title, leading to the ultimate destruction of The Wyatt Family and a feud between Bray and Orton.

The 30 For 30 episode on the XFL has been decent so far. Looks like the rule book for the league seems to be what was the real turning point for it being a failure. NBC hated it compared to how they marketed the league and knew it was going to fail in terms of how games would be.

Also Vince being typical Vince and not listening to those saying his idea wasn't going to work without major changes done early. Vince wanted to do his stuff first and then change it if needed which NBC knew was going to doom the league from the start.

Emperor Smeat 02-02-2017 09:45 PM

 at Vince's main cameraman from the WWE realizing Vince was insane with wanting camera guys being on the actual field as plays were going on. Main reason why Vince had to pay extra for anyone crazy enough to do it for XFL games.

Also  at someone from NBC showing Vince a Madden NFL video game to explain the idea of sky cams (which NFL didn't do at the time).

Emperor Smeat 02-02-2017 09:48 PM

The story of the first XFL game as it happened is way too hilarious and all for the wrong reasons.

Emperor Smeat 02-02-2017 09:55 PM

Holy crap Vince pulling a Bonds villain move with how he demoted NBC's main announcer for the games in favor of Jim Ross.

Had the announcer guy walk down a dim lit stadium to a limo eerily waiting at the end. Lights dimmed inside the limo and Vince pretty much demoted him on the spot in favor of Jim Ross for the prime time or "A" tier XFL games.

The guy legit thought Vince was going to have him beaten up because of how shady the whole experience felt.

Emperor Smeat 02-02-2017 10:10 PM

Don't think anything the WWE has or will ever do can top the train wreck that was week 2 of the XFL. Holy crap at the amount of stuff going wrong during the night and to top it off, it was on the same night as the highly anticipated SNL episode with Jennifer Lopez as the guest.

This 30 For 30 on the XFL got really good after the first 30 minutes.

BigCrippyZ 02-03-2017 12:07 AM

 Even more examples of why nobody who actually works in the television production industry respects, takes seriously or is worried about Vince.

Lock Jaw 02-03-2017 12:13 AM

I work in the television production industry and I respect Vince.......

Emperor Smeat 02-03-2017 12:47 AM

Could legit see Vince try one more time doing something football related whenever he finally decides to hand off the company to Steph and Triple H.

He pretty much implied no XFL 2 and would have to work with the NFL to make it successful. Probably something production related considering NFL borrowed several stuff from the XFL or maybe something a bit more ambitious like a developmental system done in other sports.

Simple Fan 02-03-2017 01:03 AM

Yeah the 30 for 30 was pretty good. XFL might have worked if they hadn't rushed the league along and have the teams time to form and adjust to the rules. That 2nd week game for them was brutal though and was no coming back from that even with a great game. I've got XFL cheerleader cards but I've never even seen an XFL player card. Vince didn't really do himself any favors but damn do I miss that Vince McMahon.

They talk about one topic a week chosen by the audience. Conrad is a Meltzer Sheep though. Content is basically Conrad researching the rags and his knowledge of a fan experiencing it. Bruce Prichard is a lot better debunking Meltzer's shit cause he remembers more.

Tony is funny af though and he likes Star Trek Deep Space Nine, so he is a pretty cool guy.

Only bought 1 XFL card pack but it had He Hate Me among it. Gave it to a cousin as part of a card trade a few years after the XFL was dead.

They've only done one show so far. It was on Goldberg. I really enjoyed it. No fake arguments like on Prichard's show and Tony actually doesn't spew bullshit. I really enjoyed it and I hardly ever listen to podcasts not on the Place To Be Nation or 605 Superpodcast

They've wrestled in Japan before and didn't swear.

I don't think Cena was on the card thankfully. You can usually hear him call his spots anyway, but with a Japanese crowd, it would be something else.

NXT crowd in Japan was pretty loud.

Lesnar was asked what the most romantic thing he ever did for his wife (Rena Mero, f.k.a. Sable). Lesnar told a story about taking Rena on a tropical vacation after their son turned one year old. Lesnar told Rena to leave her wedding band at home so that it didn't get stolen. The people that were watching his kids took his wedding band and said that his son had swallowed it. They found an X-Ray online of a child with a ring inside their stomach. When Lesnar returned home, he wanted to buy Rena a new wedding band but she decided to search for the wedding ring inside the child's poop. She tried searching for the ring, to no avail. Lesnar bought her a new ring and gave it to her a couple of days later on their five-year wedding anniversary when they renewed their wedding vows.

makes me sad Bobby Heenan hates Schiavonne, but I remember Tony talking about it and taking full responsibility which made me respect him.

Ol Dirty Dastard 02-03-2017 10:57 AM

not to say Tony was wrong, because who knows, but I certainly wouldn't take the high road, the way he did.

I thought this story was gonna end with him beating the fuck out of the people who took the ring. Feel like that's how it should have ended.

I've actually started enjoying the podcast, for some weird reason, even though this is pretty evident. It's like a hangnail you just can't stop playing with. There are little things he digs his hooves into the ground about that are just like "WTF? Are you really taking that line?".

Conrad isn't so much a Meltzer sheep as he is a dude that uses the dirt sheets to frame the time and provide content for his hosts to either confirm or deny. He plays babyface against Prichard, but they're clearly in on it.
