I'd think playing Ryu or Ken would actually be a good starting point if you wanted to get into the rhythm of the basics of it. From there, you can branch of into whoever you feel suits you.

Drakul 08-15-2013 11:00 AM

I'm by no means "pro" so I could be completely wrong.

The Rogerer 08-15-2013 11:02 AM

I got Street Fighter II for the SNES in 1993 so I don't have an excuse. It is my mind game that is completely non existent. I have realised that you need to find the game within the game.

Drakul 08-15-2013 01:18 PM

I used to be like that with SFIV. I'd play someone online and, if things weren't going my way, I'd panic and just screw myself over.

The Rogerer 08-15-2013 01:28 PM

I was glad that Poison is coming over. I am at the point where I have been thinking about getting better at fighting games and I have wanted to most of my life but never had the killer instinct. I got better at FPSes with the right mentality and I know I can do the same now. I would rather be a SF champion than a rockstar in my fantasies.

Drakul 08-15-2013 01:30 PM

I'm glad Poison is going to be playable as well. Curious what music she'll have.
She's one of the very few non-grapplers I play as.

I don't get the craze for modern FPS games. Played CoD local multiplayer once with my sister when she brought it over and it was the most generic guff I have seen in a very very long time.

Kalyx triaD 08-15-2013 01:41 PM

Halo 4 and Battlefield 3 is great.

The Rogerer 08-15-2013 03:00 PM

Call of Duty is a very good modern interpretation of Quake for me. Very finely tuned.

Kalyx triaD 08-15-2013 03:44 PM

That's actually a very good comparison.

Drakul 08-16-2013 11:44 AM

Played SSFIV for the first time since before AE released. True, it was just arcade mode but it was set to Hardest and I plowed through it like I had never stopped. I thought I'd be a lot rustier.

I have noticed I was jabbing more and forgot about focus attacks. Probably because of SFxT.

Wish they'd show the USFIV character already. I hate it when a company announces a game and then has this big period of silence. Telling us "We're experimenting with this guys hitboxes" doesn't count.

Drakul 08-22-2013 08:15 AM

Could be coincidence or it could be a "clue" as to the fifth character. Each first letter of the new characters spells HYPER. We just need a Y.

H=Hugo
Y = ?
P=Poison
E=Elena
R=Rolento.

Fignuts 08-22-2013 11:37 AM

Someone important to the history of street fighter who's never been playable before.

Yoshinori Ono

#BROKEN Hasney 08-22-2013 11:41 AM

Yakisoba. The fuel that powered the dev team.

Street Fighter documentery by Capcom:

Kalyx triaD 08-31-2013 03:51 PM

Eh.

Drakul 10-21-2013 03:20 PM

Rumours. First one said comes from multiple "reliable sources". The others are based off something from NeoGaf.

SPOILER: show

• "Red Focus" being added
- Said to absorb two hits (anything that isn't armor breaking), costs 2 bars of meter, and level 2 is unblockable.
- Some sources are reporting that the damage may go unscaled after Red Focus.

• Players can choose both Ultras. - Not specified if this means you can use both with one meter, or have the choice between both (like Gen). - Supposedly, if a player opts to select both Ultras, the damage will be considerably less.

• A delayed wake up mechanic may be getting implemented as well. Reports suggest that the input will be MP+HP.

Kalyx triaD 10-22-2013 01:28 AM

Interesting.

Fignuts 10-22-2013 02:24 AM

Prolly gonna jump back into this soon.

Drakul 10-25-2013 03:16 AM

Mechanics.

Kalyx triaD 10-25-2013 03:28 AM

Cute.

Drakul 10-25-2013 04:08 AM

That's two of the three rumoured changes confirmed. If they didn't mention the 3rd then it's probably not in because it's not exactly big enough news to get an individual reveal.

I'm interested in seeing what I can do with Red Focus.

Kalyx triaD 10-25-2013 04:22 AM

It's multi-layed hyper-armor essentially. You can expand the parry-like application of regular FA to defend against combos and multihit specials (and supers it seems). I don't agree that something like this should be added without majorly restructuring Armor Break attacks, which seemed kinda arbitrary in how they handled it to begin with.

Having two Ultras at the cost of damage is a cop-out - just make it default to have two Ultras with no damage penalty. I have no clue why they went halfway with this, I imagine most players would choose adaptability over limitation since many Ultras are hard to land.

I appreciate changes of this magnitude in a five year old game but it's seriously starting to 'choke on its own system', similar to recent Call of Duty games. You can only alter the game so much before you need to rework the very foundation for actually new shit to work. Otherwise you're making new pictures with the same puzzle pieces, it won't make sense after a few attempts.

Would like to see the new character now.

Fignuts 10-25-2013 07:58 AM

I think it's good that having 2 ultras scales back the damage. Ultras are hard to hit because they do so much damage and because they're not really earned like supers.

Giving a player 2 without scaling the damage would have given credence to reveants opinion a while back that the game rewards you for losing.

This way it all stays balanced.

Kalyx triaD 10-25-2013 04:07 PM

Having two at once doesn't suddenly make them easier to hit.

Fignuts 10-25-2013 06:56 PM

Yeah, but it gives your opponent less options. For instance, if you're fighting ryu, you have to adjust your play style to account for not only his anti air ultra, but also his projectile ultra. Some characters, depending on the situation of their ultras, are going to benefit enough from this where they'd be unbalanced if ultra damage stayed the same.

Kalyx triaD 10-26-2013 02:40 AM

I'm saying that case makes for a more interesting game if it was default, rather than choosing one to be really powerful.

Fignuts 10-26-2013 05:26 AM

Agree to disagree

Kalyx triaD 10-26-2013 06:03 AM

Pussy.

Get Battlefield 4 next Tuesday.

Fignuts 10-26-2013 07:08 AM

Well I was saying that above all balance should be most important. I don't care how interesting a mechanic is, if it tips the favor to certain characters, then it's flawed.

Also, not buying battlefield til I have an Xbox one or ps4. That won't happen til summer at the earliest.

Fignuts 10-26-2013 07:18 AM

Can't help but feel like the two ultra thing will prompt people to play even more cautious when the ultra gauge of their opponent fills, leading to really slow boring matches.

The Rogerer 10-26-2013 07:55 AM

Having the choice of Chun-Li's two ultras would be pretty sweet

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/lIxFeq_OvkE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Please don't tell me SF is going PS4 exclusive.

Kalyx triaD 11-08-2013 12:10 PM

I have no clue what that ad is getting at, but Sony and Capcom have been chummy before.

Drakul 11-08-2013 05:15 PM

Either SF collection, Ultra is exclusive or the whole SF series is exclusive for X years.

Jonster 11-14-2013 04:27 PM

I kind of feel that red focus has been put in almost purely because of Rolento - the amount of multi-hit moves he had in the trailer was ridiculous.

Anyway agree that having both Ultras will become the default selection as it gives more options to the players. It really depends on the damage scaling if it does result in the other player becoming super cautious though.

Even with this change it'll still be less complex than any Arc System Works fighter

Kalyx triaD 11-14-2013 08:00 PM

Red Focus was added to facilitate dual Ultras and force people to respect their 'Glass Break' moves more. Now you can build Ultra much faster but with more grey life on you, one jab could be very dangerous. Also makes the game a tad more aggressive which seems to be the theme of the update in general.

Rolento's still gonna be a bitch, though. Even without his jab pressure from SFxT he'll still be very tricky. He's basically a harder hitting Ibuki without the complex controls, and he'll at least be a better Rekka character than Yun.

Drakul 11-15-2013 02:20 AM

I don't really pay attention to technical stuff like what makes a game more agressive or more methodical but if USF4 is going to be more agressive, I'm looking forward to it.

Another PS4 teaser video is up. Ryu drives a taxi around a city full of PS4 characters. You don't realise just how friggin' dull modern "A-List" characters are until you show them all togethor in a city. The most colourful thing in the video is probably Ryus headband.

Kalyx triaD 11-15-2013 02:32 AM

What the hell is Sony and Capcom getting at with these?

Drakul 11-15-2013 02:36 AM

It seems like a generic "Buy the PS4" video but, given the previous video focused entirely on Ryu and had SF references everywhere, it probably means something else.

I've read it could be a Sony exclusive character for USF4.

Kalyx triaD 11-15-2013 02:39 AM

That would be a strange way of teasing that.
