Gone Girl 8/10
Before Sunrise 7/10 Julie Delpy is adorable. |
I finally got around to seeing the original Red Dawn. Definitely going somewhere on the low end of my top 10. Wish I had seen it sooner.
9/10 |
Fury 8.5/10
|
Have yet to document my recent solo_movie.saga experiences...
The Equalizer - 8/10 Felt kind of "formulaic" in the sense that "revenge movies" seem to be in vogue, but Denzel was awesome in it and it was more gruesome than I expected. Gone Girl - 8/10 It kept me guessing and made me feel strongly about the characters in different ways throughout the movie. Did kind of drag, though. There were two or three times where I thought the movie was wrapping up and became conscious of how long I'd been sitting there. The Judge - 7/10 I hate reading other peoples' reviews of movies because I find myself adopting their opinions of it. For The Judge I read Wesley Morris' review and the jist was, "the movie is trying to do too many things", which I kind of agree with. I enjoyed it though, RDJ can make me enjoy any movie at this point. Fury - 8/10 I was expecting it to be super gory but it really wasn't. Characters were really good, didn't seem overly ridiculous or beyond the realm of possibility... good movie John Wick - 7/10 I found this one hard to rate. It was another "revenge" type movie. Like the storyline itself was interesting enough and all, and whatever. I loved the kind of "world" it presented, this underbelly of hitmen that gathered at this hotel. Had a very cool vibe to it. Lots of the fight scenes were good. I liked Keanu in this. There was a lot of ridiculousness but I liked the vibe of the movie overall. |
Is it me or has Jon Bernthal been type-cast; all I ever see him play are pricks, whether in Fury or as Shane in The Walking Dead? Granted, in both cases his character is disturbed in some fashion, but still.
|
Quote:
Also, I'm pretty sure he's not a prick in Mob City, though someone would have to confirm, cause I've only heard opinions. |
Marked out for Shane in shit nigga you called the Wolf
|
John Wick - 8/10. Moral lesson of this movie: Never steal a mustang car and kill his cute dog or he'll go Matrix jujitsu on everyone's asses. Neo still has that dodge bullet time power skills.
|
They didn't really use any kinda gimmicky bullet time stuff in John Wick which was nice. I thought the fight scenes were pretty well-paced. Really liked the way Keanu moved when he fought for some reason. Seemed very deliberate and mechanical.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 2/5
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - 5/5 |
Nightcrawler - 6/10 ... maybe 7/10. It had a bunch of stuff I liked and 6 seems like a low score but a "7/10" is the most uninteresting rating for something ever
|
Saw Interstellar today: Sci-fi Soap opera with a bit of Space Odyssey in the finale moments. Inception in Space and I cried.
10/10. |
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B1zAaijIEAI6UgZ.jpg
Interstellar - 6/10 That's the actual 70mm reel used to project the movie in the IMAX dome. Neat stuff. |
Interstellar 8.5/10
|
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - 8/10.
Doctor masks made of bones were ridiculous. |
Oh, and I think this was probably the best fucking CGI I have ever seen.
|
Interstellar
Interstellar is both terrific and a mess. The 1st third is excellent, The 2nd third is pretty good and the last third is baffling and nearly incomprehensible. However, is it fair to let the last third derail how great the 1st third is? I would say it's definitely worth a viewing. InterCeption might have been a better name for the film. 1st third - 10/10 2nd third - 8/10 3rd third - 5/10 |
Interstellar - I agree that it was pretty excellent until the last 30 minutes/"denouement" of the film.
On the whole 8.5/10 |

Donnie Wahlberg - 6/10 http://images.cinefacts.de/Nightcraw...-Poster-DE.jpg Night Crawler - 8/10 |
Big Hero 6 is my new favorite movie. Holy shit. That movie was everything perfect. I'm just... wow.
Stop what you're doing, and go see it. |
Fury - 8.5/10
SPOILER: show Shit, even Shia LeBoof managed to not piss me off once. Was actually pretty good here. |
Birdman - 10/10 I think
Sweet ass movie... Almost the entire movie is made to feel like one continuous uncut shot... sweet Really good |
I don't understand the complaints about the last part of Interstellar. What were you expecting to happen in this film?
SPOILER: show |
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - 3 out of 5. Wasn't bad but wasn't great either.
|
Dumb and Dumber to: 6.6/10
Actually, better than I anticipated. |
Clue: 10/10
cinematic masterpiece, etc... |
Doc Brown, KiloKhan, nuff' said.
|
Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. 1 6.5/10
Not much action, but I still liked it; the problem is that it feels like half a movie, which it is! |

Guardians Of The Galaxy - 9.5/10
Let's Be Cops - 6.5/10 (Was entertaining but was the case of all the funny bits being in the Trailer) 22 Jump Street - 7/10 (Was slightly above my expectations) Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 8/10 (As a huge Captain America fan, I really enjoyed this one alot more, Had good story telling, flowed alot better then the original with all it montages) Thor: The Dark World - 7/10 - Was alright, Enjoyed the original more. Nightcrawler - N/A (From what I saw it was amazing, but had to leave half-way thru because the only people in the therate at the time was My Ex-Wife and her new boyfriend...Ackward |

|
Dumb and Dumber To-0 outta 10
I doubted this would be good. But my girl wanted to see it. Turns out it is even worse than the original. But I am sure people will say this is a classic and call me an idiot for hating the first one. Fuck um. Jim Carrey is funny in small 5 minute bursts. Over the course of a movie he becomes more annoying than when the midget at the pizza place hasn't showered in weeks and keeps sweating all over the counter. |
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - 8.5/10
probs the best "Hollywood" film I've seen this year, will surely gets visual/effects Oscar noms |
Hercules: 1/10
Only watched % 30 of the movie before I shut it off. I give them credit for taking a different route with the story and charcters, but it was drek. |
Interstellar - mind-blown/10
|
Interstellar - 5/5
Nolan Brothers with another home run. |
Jessabelle: Insidious meets The Serpent and the Rainbow anyone? 6/10.
Outpost 37: Sci-fi mockumentary of aliens called Heavies by the marines.. Really? They look like Mass effect's Protheans! 8/10. Had its gory-ass moments. VHS: Viral - 2/10. Really confusing plot point of the main story of a girl trapped in a fucking cellphone video to record it on youtube then occassionally skips to another segment although I liked the skaters beating the shit out of hooded skeletor voodoo monsters and the parallel alien dimension segment.. |
Dumb and Dumber To: 8/10.
|
Birdman - 5/5
Pretty much the same thing as Triple A said, it's like they never stopped filming. Just one long ass take. |
Big Hero 6 - 4/5
Cute, predictable Disney flick. Short film at the start of the movie got me choked up. |
Dumb and Dumber To: 6/10.. Not much of giggles but a few, still, I'm glad to see Sea Bass and the blind kid back. :p
Exodus: Gods & Kings 9/10. - Very different interpretation of the 10 Commandments from Charlton Heston's version. Moses becomes Batman on this one. :p |
Stand by Me: 3/10
Whatever |
Frozen 8/10
|
As Above/So Below - 3/10 - Nice Plot and decent movie, if you count only the first 13 minutes. Everything else makes me wish I could of watch Clark posting for 8 straight hours instead.
|
A Million Ways to Die in the West - 4/10
Did not really enjoy. Felt too "on the nose"... some of the stuff was real funny though. Just too much stupid |
The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies 7/10
Better than the first, but the second film remains the strongest. |
Horrible Bosses 2 - 2/10
Really bad. Felt like I was watching an Austin Powers movie in 2014. Charlie Day (who I normally like) v annoying in this. Like obnoxiously annoying. Hated it. HOWEVER comma there was a movie trailer for "Get Hard", movie with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart... Alison Brie looking V V V V sexy in it in the short scene she was in. Evening not a disaster. |
Team America - 6/10
Skeleton Twins - 6/10 |
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies - 6/10
|
Foxcatcher - 4/5
|
Quote:
Hope it's good. Nice cast. |
The Purge: Anarchy More of the same. as the 1st but it was OK. 7/10.
http://www.kemaltv.com/wp-content/uploads/Kite-2014.jpg Didn't know this was a violent anime-based scenario and right now I'm watching the anime version of it as well. Run Lola Run/Professional vibes anyone? 8/10. https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...923bfd4f70ad20 http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...640_SY720_.jpg Not to be confused with the AJ Bowen version where TV signal static makes people go apeshit on violence.. ;) 9/10. Could've been the anti-thesis to Nolan's Interstellar. :p |
The Hunt (2012) - 10/10
Amazing movie... Lots of despair and isolation... huge nightmare. "Emotionally draining." Great acting by the lead actor and cast in general. Was nominated for Best Foreign Film last year @ Oscars. About a kindergarten teacher whose life starts to fall apart after a little girl accuses him of sexually abusing her and the mass hysteria that follows. |
Boyhood (2014) - 8/10
Pretty good... really interesting concept and some good "emotional" parts. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) - 8/10 Feels like I usually don't really like Wes Anderson movies but this was prob my fav one of his. Every shot was "beautiful" and the story actually also seemed interesting to me. Inherent Vice (2014) - 7/10 I feel like I need to see this again maybe. Had an incredibly annoying theater experience that prob "ruined" the movie for me. Feels like I would have liked it better if I knew more about it going in / knew what to expect, which was sort of a bunch of loosely-intertwined scenes. Felt like I was "having trouble following the movie" because of being really distracted by people around me but the movie was kinda "supposed to be like that" I guess. Need to watch it again... there were a lot of "good parts" and feels like I would def enjoy it way more the 2nd time, and Joaquin Phoenix is the best. Magic in the Moonlight (2014) - 5/10 Woody Allen movie... seemed pretty weak... idk... Emma Stone is very pretty in it though The Interview (2014) - 4/10 Seemed bad... was "purposefully" "silly" and dumb and stuff and was trying to "cut it some slack" but just like... didn't seem funny... couple of funny parts but... seemed pretty bad... |
The Great Gatsby - 7/10
Ok film, visually was outstanding. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. A Cinderella Story: Once Upon A Song - 2/10 Mikala wanted to stay it. It gets a 2 purely for Lucy Hale. |
The Station Agent - 6/10
|
Into the Woods: 1/10
|
Biutiful (2010) - 8/10
Bleak movie... was good. Really like every movie the director has done. (Director of Birdman, 21 Grams, Amores Perros, Babel) Obvious Child (2014) - 4/10 Felt annoyed by this movie. "Quirky" "20-something 'creative person'" with rich white parents, living in "Brooklyn"... Sort of like "Girls" but not good... seems like it thought it was being really "cute" and funny a lot but felt annoying to me... feel bad about this review, seems really negative |
Don Jon
7.5/10 |
Just watched the 2014 Godzilla film. Holy fuck this film sucked. Obviously there's the actual lack of Godzilla that most people are aware of by now. The few scenes he appeared in were mostly dark. So dark in fact, that I could barely see anything. And the overall story/plot were horrendously boring.
I don't have a specific rating for it, but let's just say I actually prefer the 1998 movie to this one. |
I remember the trailers featuring Bryan Cranston quite heavily, but he is only in it for the first 20 mins or so.
|
Into the Woods - 5/5
|
Exodus: Gods and Kings - 2.5/5
Got nothing on The Ten Commandments. |
Grown Ups: 7/10
|
Planes, Trains & Automobiles - 6/10
|
Bowfinger - 6/10
Tangled - 9/10 |
The Interview: 2/10. Watch it only if you want to be part of watercooler conversation.
|
Oculus - 8/10
The best "WWE Studios" movie. |
WWE Studios basically pays for movies to be made now. Not alot of WWE Studios movies with superstars anymore.
|
House of the Flying Daggers: 7.4/10
|
The Interview - 7/10
Dunno, maybe I'm rating it higher because I expected it to REALLY suck, and it didn't? I did get a couple of legit LOL moments out of it though. "Don't hate it cause you Anus". That's more because of a joke between my wife and myself. Penguins of Madagascar - 8/10 This was pretty good. Normally movie spin-offs like these can be hit and miss, but I think this was a hit. There was a preview for 'The Minions Movie' before this, and as much as I hate to say it, I feel that will be a miss. But yeah, I enjoyed this thoroughly, as did my daughter who is quite picky with movies. |
She's not too old for the kids movies yet? Cute.

Snowpiercer- 7/10 Pretty good. Would probably rate it a 7/10, but Tilda Swinton's performance raises it up a level. |
Gone Girl (2014) - 8/10
A lot of it seemed ridiculous / not believable but was good and entertaining... Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy? (2013) - 7/10 Interview with Noam Chomsky, animated by Michel Gondry. The interview part was "OK" (some was really good but some was not) because Gondry was asking kinda dumb questions, I think, but love Noam Chomsky and the animation was sweet. |
The Book Thief - 4/5 was pretty ok, I guess...
|
I am Santa Claus
8.5/10. Was thinking I would only care about the Mick Foley part but it was great throughout. Really loved seeing stories about other people who make most if not all of their money playing Santa Claus at Malls, Personal appearances etc. When I was watching I suddenly remembered going to Santa's Village in New Hampshire as a small child. I only take off a few points because the movie seemed to be a little bit too long. They follow alot of Santas though. It didn't have a long run time (89 Minutes) but it seemed to drag a bit. On Netflix currently streaming. |
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit- 7.5/10
I would recommend this to anyone. It was pretty quick, and some pretty good action. I would gladly see some more of these movies with Chris Pine. Sadly I heard they aren't going to make anymore. |
Seven Pounds - 8/10
I'd never watch this movie if it weren't on TV just now, but wow, I really liked it. |
My fiancée bought me that for Xmas...to replace the one she loaned to her parents 2 years ago.
|
The Gambler - ..ehh I dunno, 6/10
Wasn't bad but didn't really do anything for me. John Goodman was pretty good in it. Real cheesy scene at the end dropped it a point for me. |
Force Majeure - Interesting movie about a seemingly perfect family that is torn apart after the dad bails on his family during a "controlled avalanche" during their ski trip. Cinematography was really good. 8/10
Whiplash - I put off watching this for some reason, but I really liked it. JK Simmons is the coolest, I liked seeing him go back to OZ roots playing a real shithead. It felt refreshing that a movie focused on what it takes to be the best wasn't played off as inspirational, it shows the shit and sacrifices of achievement and becoming the best in the world at something. 9/10 Into the Woods - Two long goddamn hours of people singing in the forest. There were a lot of homosexuals in the audience and they seemed to really like it, I would give it a 5/10. |
Lego Movie - 8.5/10
|
Imitation Game. 9/10
|
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014-What a pile of shit. The turtles were too big and looked like shit. Megan Fox is a horrible actress and was badly cast as April. Splinter looked decent but the voice didn't fit him. Plus it "DUDE" Mikey. I hate "DUDE" Mikey. The only people I have talked to that enjoyed it were either kids and fans of that horrible Fred Wolf cartoon or have some serious brain damage. And more than likely think "That's My Boy" is a good film. 0.5 outta 10
Let's be Cops-My girl wanted to see this. She was wanting a comedy. I had no idea that Damon Wayan's son was acting. He was decent in this. And unlike most modern mainstream comedies it at least made me laugh 4 or 5 times. Worth a rental. 6 outta 10 Turtle Power-This is a documentary about the TMNT phenomenon. Starting with the brilliant Mirage Black and white comic. Going to the horrible Fred Wolf cartoon. Then a short bit about the fairly fun Archie comics produced TMNT Adventures comic. The three live action films and the 2000s animated one are covered. Even the almost as bad as the Fred Wolf cartoon,Live action TMNT the next mutation gets some lip service. I enjoyed hearing about how much hands on Peter Laird had with the 4kids cartoon and the current Nick cartoon. This is mostly after how Fred Wolf took the original concept and turned it into shit. 8 outta 10 |
You seem to be a TMNT fan based on your viewing habits in that post... you seen Turtles Forever yet? It's a pretty cool project (made-for-TV, I think) that combined several iterations of TMNT over the years. Worth a watch for any TMNT fan.
|
Quote:
I have it but haven't seen it yet. I really liked the 4kids cartoon. Still need to see the Fast Forward season. So far the only TMNT shows or films I didn;t like were. 1.The Fred Wolf cartoon, yeah I get it for an entire generation this was their cartoon as a kid. So they look back on it fondly. Hell I am dating someone that loves this cartoon. But to me they went too far into the kid direction with that cartoon. I find the first film to be a perfect blend of the original Mirage TMNT mythos with a tiny dash of the Fred Wolf cartoon. 2.TMNT the next mutation. What a pile of shit. So bad that right after it finished airing Eastmand and Laird disowened it. And for years pretended like it didn't happen. 3.Micheal Bay TMNT movie,I gave this a try and holy shit balls is it horrible. But I can see where if you are a fan of the Fred Wolf cartoon how you would enjoy it. It wasn;t just the story and acting, the CGI looked like shit and the Turtles were way way too big. |
Maze Runner 7 outta 10
Went in expecting a subpar Hunger Games ripoff. Got instead a pretty fun movie. That just when you think you got it figured out the rug gets pulled out from under you. Ignore the trailers, which to me made the film look bad. |
The Fred Wolf cartoon was my entire childhood. They had me hook line and sinker... had all the toys and everything. The more recent ones they've done (2003 or so?) were pretty good.
Still haven't seen the new movie yet |
Maze Runner to me, based off the trailers, looked like a kids movie... might have to czech it out
|
Anyway uhhh this week I saw Imitation Game. Was surprised at how true to real life events it was. Cumberbatch was great in it. Kiera Knightly was very good as well, better than I expected. Movie wasn't as "dramatic" as I was expecting, didn't seem like there was a ton of drama or w/e but I really really enjoyed it. 9/10
|
Quote:
It is a kids film. But a really well done one. That turns fairly dark right at the end. |
Quote:
Yep that cartoon along with Power Rangers is a major touchstone for a certain generation.Mary couldn't understand why I hated it so much. Then I got her to read the first 10 issues of the Mirage first TMNT series. And then she got it. |
Left Behind-2014
Saw this because some friends want to see every Nic Cage film made after Leaving Las Vegas. Wasn't as bad as I expected. Not nearly as preachy as I expected. Worth a rental. 5 outta 10 |
Edge of tomorrow /Live die repeat 7.5
I liked it probably more than i should have |
Foxcatcher 7/10
Testament of Youth 8.5/10 |
The Chaperone starring Paul Levesque. 9/10
|
Mean Girls: 6/10
|
Labor Day: 8/10
A very unintentionally funny, yet engrossing chick flick. |
