Dunno about Tanahashi switching themes. High Energy is iconic (to puro fans anyway)

Also, I feel like NJPW doesn't make good themes anymore. I remember going to madsplash back in the day and downoading boatloads of great puro themes, but these days it all sounds so generic.

I really don't see it that way. He reminds me of early heel jericho, where he does goofy shit for heel heat, like jericho's one foot pin, but can turn it on and be a serious threat just like that.

XL 12-18-2016 10:31 AM

Yeah, I'm with you. When the rest of the cruiserweights and 80% of the rest of the roster are doing Suicide Dives and planchas every 5 minutes, this makes Gallagher stand out.

I really hope they go with a storyline where Rusev identifies as female and lays waste to the womens division.

Would be funnier if it was Bryon Saxton. In the end he beats everybody but then Asuka comes and he shits his pants.

Kinda want to see Rusev against Minoru Suzuki, combining the last couple posts

To many Big moves do not end matches. A spiked 'white noise' should be a finisher.

Damian Rey 2.0 12-19-2016 11:56 PM

I agree with this

Mr. Nerfect 12-20-2016 01:57 AM

Agreed. I'd like to see Cesaro and Sheamus start to rub off on each other, with Cesaro adopting the Brogue Kick as a finisher and Sheamus doing his own version of The Neutralizer.

“I’ve had a lifelong passion, and really obsession, with professional wrestling since I was a very small kid,” said Bennett. “That passion never left me. I was always inspired to be involved and be part of good TV and do projects that would inspire me professionally. Unfortunately, in 2015 and again in 2016, I was asked to play a character and perform storylines that I found thoroughly uninspiring. After making repeated attempts to change my career trajectory and having those efforts turned down, my passion for playing the role of a WWE Superstar went away.”
:(

Juan 12-20-2016 05:20 AM

Damn

#BROKEN Hasney 12-20-2016 07:59 AM

Probably more damning about the product as a whole:

Quote:

“‘Bad News’ Barrett was a really fun time,” explained Bennett. “The reactions from the crowd I was getting were really about my speaking and my portrayal of a character rather than my in-ring work. You can even go back to the Nexus era, when I was cutting promos every single night. People were really hanging on my every word, and I was really dictating a lot of the shows that we were doing. I’ve always had that confidence in my performance ability and my ability to speak in character. One of the most exciting parts of the Nexus and ‘Bad News’ Barrett eras were I had a lot of influence in the character and I had a lot of influence in how I was going to portray myself. When I became King Barrett, the influence I had in the character was taken away. I was told, ‘This is your outfit, and here is your promo that you have to say word-for-word.’ Any time I tried to tweak the storyline because I thought it wasn’t working, or because it wasn’t me, I was denied. The lack of control over my career reduced my passion more than anything.
“The best thing about being a pro wrestler was having that fan base behind you,” said Bennett. “The fans never, ever stopped inspiring me. What stopped inspiring me was the fact that the material that I was performing on screen wasn’t something that I found interesting. If I don’t enjoy it and I don’t have a passion for it, then I can’t see how anyone else watching it could enjoy it. If you look back at my career in 2015 and 2016, most people would struggle to pinpoint anything that they thought was good. There simply weren’t those moments, and I’m aware of that as much as anybody. I’m aware when it’s not entertaining because I’m the guy right in the middle of it. That wasn’t the only issue—it wasn’t purely a creative thing, there were other issues going on behind the scenes between me and WWE, but that was the most obvious one.”

Good Wade Barrett was when he was given some freedom. Shocking. This word for word promo approach for the entire locker room needs to die.

I will go to the grave believing Wade Barrett should've been in a marquee match at WrestleMania 27. Either against The Undertaker (to which the build already started with Nexus literally burying Undertaker with no follow up) or defending the WWE Championship against John Cena, whose tenure in the Nexus would've been stretched out longer than a month.

Probably the former. They'd likely already made the decision to build to a Cena/Rock storyline to span across three Manias, so Barrett being the third wheel in that would've sucked. Undertaker going in to total Sting vs. the nWo mode and holding off the Nexus at Mania could've been a lot of fun.

Hardly surprising though is it? I mean how many times have we heard this "each and every one of you " shit in promos? Its like a standard line that must be included when the crowd or multiple "superstars" is being addressed. Just about any promo in wwe these days is so generic it could be delivered by anyone, so doesn't surprise me thats basically how things work.

This "independant contractor" bullshit needs to be taken to task, wwe basically OWN the wrestlers and dictate what they can and can't do which i'm pretty sure is way beyond the remit of people that are classified that way.

It's funny how guys who are over manage to work through the scripted promo issue. The guys who sputter in their career have the biggest complaints. Reminds me of when people that work for me complain about not getting enough breaks, but it's only the people who are middle of the road or below average performers. The guys who are top performers never complain that the system is broken.

Its almost like one size doesn't fit all.

Vastardikai 12-20-2016 02:27 PM

All I'm gonna say is this: Name one legendary promo that was 100% done by a writer and handed to a worker to recite word for word.

Money says you can't do it.

Mostly because you wouldn't be able to credibly validate which promos were scripted vs not. Unless Vince has an incredible memory and willing to talk.

On the flip side, how many terrible promos in the past were non scripted? A good promo guy should be able to do either.

From what I understand about the scripting of promos is that guys who are identified as needing to be kept on point are given less rope when it comes to promos. A guy like John Cena doesn't have every word written for him. A guy like Foley or Flair who is constantly losing their place when they are in the ring needs to be reigned in. Also some guys today PREFER to be scripted. When you watch a show like SNL do you think they are just winging it? Everything is scripted word for word.
