A lot better than I was expecting.

The Raid 2 9/10

Pretty damn solid action movie. "Hammer Girl" was pretty intense.

The Untouchables: 9/10. Almost forget how friggen money Kevin Costner was in the late 80's-early 90's.

The only twist ending M. Night could pull off these days would be not to have a twist ending.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 5/5

Any movie, ANY MOVIE, with Anthony Mackie in it automatically makes it great. Along with the non-stop action, acting, and various comic book material make it all the better.

ClockShot 04-16-2014 03:59 PM

The Raid 2 - 4.5/5

Not as great as the first one, but the brutality and violence is right up there where is should be.

The Grandmaster - 3.5/5

Requiem 04-18-2014 07:05 PM

The Machine - 8/10

Really creepy sci-fi flick, could almost be described as a prequel to Blade Runner. Or spiritual prequel at least. Very inspired by Blade Runner, but definitely takes its own turns in the story. Not the greatest acting, but done in a really minimal way that made me appreciate it.

El Vaquero de Infierno 04-19-2014 05:37 AM

Thor 7.5/10
The second film is better, but still, I enjoyed it

Cabin in the Woods 7.5/10
It is a bit ridiculous, but an interesting take on a horror staple.

Creepy as shit given the circumstances. Fuck the "grays."

Raven Reaper 04-22-2014 12:42 AM

Transcendence.

Actually good sci-fi movie. I can reference the plotline ranging from Her, to Terminator-ish Skynet dominance and Mass effect's storyline of Illusive Man wanting to control synthetics and co-existing with organics.. With a bit of Russell Crowe's Virtuosity style of villainy.. No wonder Manson attended the premiere with Johnny Depp. I think he liked it too.

8/10.

I watched this last night, and I don't think it was that bad. The Rock definitely carried the film, but, as a piece of mindless action I would give it 3/5 (it would be a 2/5 without The Rock)

I'm not a Rock mark, either.

whiteyford 04-22-2014 07:28 AM

Didn't really have a whole lot to do with G.I. Joe honestly, stick with the animated movie.

ClockShot 04-22-2014 11:33 AM

I felt bad for Ray Park and Byung-Hun Lee. They must have came onto the set and were like "Where is everyone"?

I don't count Channing Tatum coming back for 5 minutes and a big paycheck.

whiteyford 04-22-2014 03:12 PM

Frozen 7/10

It was alright, nowhere near the heady heights of Aladdin or even Tarzan.

And when did they start doing the extra bit after the credits with Disney too?

El Vaquero de Infierno 04-22-2014 03:50 PM

Oh, shit; Netflix has Rik Mayall's "Drop Dead Fred" film. I think I'll be watching that on Friday. It has been so long since I last saw that film.

Triple A 04-23-2014 01:23 AM

Frances Ha (2012) - 8/10 - Really liked a lot. Kinda like "Girls" but better. Really like Greta Gerwig. :)

The Comedy (2012) - 5/10 - did not like

Take the Money and Run (1969) - 8/10 - really funny for 1969 movie. Usually "comedies" from back then are not funny at all to me but this def "holds up"... Woody Allen...

What's Up, Tiger Lily? (1966) - 2/10 - w0rst Woody Allen movie. just a Japanese movie dubbed over with re-written American lines to try to make it "funny" but was s000 unfunny to me

It's been 9 yrs before this happened. Wow. It felt like watching The Hitcher this time around with car/truck chase scenes.. Still, I'm in the minority that I enjoy this just as much as the 1st one.

Gore Galore: Intestines, penis cut-off, torso ripped out,: TRIPLE CHECK.

Kangaroos being run over by the truck: Double Check.. Didn't see that one coming.. Poor Kangaroos.

Sniper Headshot splatters: Check.

It’s like Crocodile Dundee, High Tension, Texas Chain Saw and Elm Street all mixed into one insanely fun, yet dirty, grimy and vicious slasher massacre.

8/10.

Raven Reaper 04-27-2014 04:46 AM

Metallica: Through the Never. The plotline just took a huuuge backseat as a random music video everytime Metallica plays the next song.. Best part was the Sandman when the pyro and stage collapses and James told the audience to stop and check the whole staff... Does that happen often in their concerts too? Cos, it's like Cunning Stunts Live on DVD as well. Similar accident during the Enter Sandman song... Damn.

And we still don't know what was in that roadie's package... Weed? New drums? etc? whatever, this movie was just another kick-ass live concert masquerading as a horror flick.

7/10. Call them overrated sellouts, Napster greedy fuckers, they still got it for their age.. At least, I didn't care for Metallica's current album lately.

Corporate CockSnogger 04-27-2014 06:46 AM

In Your Eyes: Joss Whedon penned love story about two people who are psychically connected and fall in love despite never wing in the same place he'd been writing in the 90's. Kinda fits in better in the present day considering the popularity of Internet dating etc. Very touching at times and a lot of the dialogue is very obviously Joss Whedon. Fell a little flat here and there but really enjoyed it for the most part.

Nice little suspense/horror film. Not a lot of gore or spooks, but great tension and buildup to the ending.

Kick-Ass 2-8/10
Don't get why this got critically panned. I mean, I usually agree with critics upon seeing films, but this was not the case. I loved it. Had funny moments, some serious stuff, hand to hand action was great. The ending was a little...weird...but overall I really enjoyed it.

Transformers 3 - Dark of the Moon 4/10

All the Transformers films are naff; I only watched it because I was bored and needed a breather from the awesome House of Cards.

whiteyford 05-01-2014 12:43 AM

The animated movie is not naff in the least.

El Vaquero de Infierno 05-01-2014 05:19 AM

Well, all the live action ones are. No amount of Megan Fox bending over cars/whatever or that other one pouting her lips can lift any of those abominations.

whiteyford 05-01-2014 12:21 PM

See, should stick to cartoons.

Fignuts 05-02-2014 12:33 AM

Evil Dead (2013)

7/10- Pretty good I guess. Characters are kind of boring, outside of Mia.

SPOILER: show
Seems kind of dumb that after all that work, a demon who's coming makes the sky bleed, can be taken out with your basic everyday chainsaw. Like, seriously didn't seem very threatening at all. But overall a pretty enjoyable watch.

Apparently this is actually a sequel to the previous series, not a remake. There will be a new Evil Dead 2, as well as Army of Darkness 2, and then Ash and Mia will team up in a movie that merges the two chronologies. Kind of hyped for that.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - fail/pass.pass

Raven Reaper 05-04-2014 12:44 AM

In The Blood - Could've been a sequel to Haywire but it was all kinds of kick-ass style over storyline substance. The only twist of good wife vs bad guys,
SPOILER: show
the stupid latino wanted her husband's bone marrow to treat his cancer AND Kill him afterwards for it.
. I guess that's how it was titled that way. 5/10.

Afflicted - REC meets Chronicle is what you get for this movie. The twist:
SPOILER: show
Dude got infected by STD on some French chick.
Twas good though. 6/10.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 -More of the same and Electro looks like Palpatine and Manhattan's bastard lovechild. Didn't expect of what happens to Gwen in the final moments.. Another roller coaster action packed superhero flick you'd expect to enjoy this summer. 7/10.

Lock Jaw 05-04-2014 01:21 AM

Big Trouble in Little China: 6.5/10

Was expecting more from it. I dunno. Was ok. Dolph Ziggler seems a lot taller in this movie than he does on TV now.

Tazz Dan 05-04-2014 02:31 AM

Bad Neighbours - 9/10

Seth Rogan and Rose Byrne had great chemistry. Fucking hilarious film.

whiteyford 05-04-2014 02:10 PM

Walter Mitty 7.5/10

Was alright.

Cool King 05-04-2014 04:20 PM

Snowpiercer - 4/10

Polybius 05-05-2014 01:37 PM

The Amazing Spider-man 2: 6/10

The cast was awesome and I've been enjoying the fact that Peter Parker has the quipy attitude back - but now all the origin stories and such are pretty fucked up, you see some emotional stuff then immediately go to happy time, and it was just all around everywhere.

However, the effects were good, it did feel comic book-y, and I really dug the music.
It was fun, but fuckin' nuts if you were looking for something to match the marvel universe.

Ermaximus 05-07-2014 02:11 AM

Instructions not Included-8.5/10-Was not expected much, but it's a pretty damn good movie. Gets you right in the "feels" though at points.

Piranha 3DD-.5/10-Absolute shit. The .5 is only because of the Hoff.

mitch_h 05-10-2014 04:05 PM

House of Tolerance - Good french movie about a whorehouse at the turn of the 20th century. Pretty plotless, just deals with the day to day stuff the women go through: syphilis, mutilations, hygiene, camaraderie, etc etc. Had some good scenes involving a black panther, tears of cum, and a melancholic dance sequence to an anachronistically used "Nights of White Satin" by the Moody Blues.

8/10

The Young Girls of Rochefort - Good french musical from the 1960s. Very over the top, pays homage to earlier classic musicals, and makes good use of colour - would recommend to homosexuals.

8/10

whiteyford 05-10-2014 05:45 PM

Godzilla (2014) 6/10

Bryan Cranston features heavily in the trailer, but is only in the actual film for the first 20 mins or so. That does not account for my 6/10 score; it did nothing for me in general.

Yeah well, monster movies' logic: Humans are not really the main attraction. The monster deathmatches matter more..

But I give this 10/10 for me. :P

I even noticed one review they referenced the movie Jaws because of the protagonists' last name in that movie: Brody!!

Black Widow 05-17-2014 08:15 AM

Neighbors

The funniest movie iv'e seen this past year besides This Is The End.

XL 05-17-2014 10:48 AM

Fun Fact: it's called Bad Neighbours over here so as not to get confused with the popular Australian soap opera of the same name.

Godzilla (2014): 4/10. Not very good. Some interesting bits here and there, but it just felt "lost" until the climax of the movie. Where there was some sweet monster on monster action. It could not save the movie taken as a whole, though.

Damian Rey 05-20-2014 12:14 PM

Amazing Spider-Man 2-5/10
Just as I feared. Too much going on, too many characters, and not enough time to flesh anything out. Everything was really rushed. Electro could have been a pretty tragic character, but he turned heel instantly rather than building towards it. Goblin was a waste. Rhino was a hammy acting job. Still love the chemistry between Peter and Gwen. Harry and Peter on the other hand had no chemistry, and trying to get us to buy into them being good friends 8 yrs or so prior to this film flopped. They did not, in fact, learn from the over stuffed Spider-Man 3. I did, however, enjoy the score very much.

GODZILLA-8/10
Loved it. Agree with a lot of the critical comments of not really investing a lot in the films characters, but it's still a really well done Godzilla flick. Well paced, and Godzilla was the fucking man. Love the score, too. Saw they're doing a sequel. Interesting how that's going to work.

X-Men: Days of Future Past: 9/10.

Don't leave the theater cos Marvel loves to troll its audiences with easter egg ending after end credits roll. Again, it has something to do with this super villain that will obliterate all of them in the Marvel Universe:

The Quiet Ones - Sinister + Insidious = This movie.. It was OK..6/10.

Oculus - Very good horror flick that could also pass as a TV episode of Grimm of the evil magic mirror that makes people go ala The Crazies!

Although the ending was a bit sad for me.. Damn, the mirror even has tricks up its sleeve like for example the person who was there that the guy kills just isn't real and sometimes vice versa. It's like the mirror blurs the line of reality and fantasy where people either go psychopath or kill themselves by plucking out their teeth and body parts etc..

Like I said, it's all about the evil magic mirror minus The Evil Queen from Snow White story saying " Mirror, mirror on the wall, Who's the fairest of them all?"

Captain America: Winter Soldier - 9.5/10 - my second favourite MCU film, right after Avengers.

Lucia - Indian film about lucid dreams. Pretty good, low budget and some cheesy parts but good story on the whole. Would be great for a Hollywood remake, even if it is a bit "Vanilla Sky" anyway.

Oculus - pretty good horror film. Not overly reliant on cheap jump scares, lots of well shot scenes. Watched mostly for Karen Gillan and Katee Sackhoff but also NATHAN SCOTT FROM HOT TEEN DRAMA, ONE TREE HILL WAS IN IT. Also my favourite Internet poster ever, Raven Reaper, enjoyed it.

Could've been better as a video game than a movie! Other than that, The aliens reminded me alot of Matrix. Felt like Starship Troopers by way of Inception by way of Groundhog Day etc... Fun sci-fi flick. Had its funny moments of "respawning" logic in a game-ish movie that you can't seem to play at all.

More like Spit on your Grave By way of Evil Dead with a dead Apache Indian warrior.. Unlikely ally for a girl who gets raped by redneck dudes who were also responsible for slaughtering Apache Indians back in the day.. Talk about doubling the thirst for vengeance.

The heroine really does a good job of making Katniss and Xena Warrior Princess looked fucking tame and pale in comparison to her combat fatality skills with gore effects that'll make every Mortal Kombat fan would love to see! She'd probably make Scorpion from MK totally proud of her decapatation of heads, intestines etc..

Hell, this is even more brutal than the fighting scenes of last of the mohicans when it comes to gory ass body counts in this one.

God I loved this movie. Every moment. As hilariously violent as I found the action, I felt that anytime Mr. Waltz was on screen, the movie was in high gear. Only thing keeping it from a 10 is the fact that Dr. Schultz died, damn it.

Also, Sam Jackson is the best Uncle Ruckus ever.
