Charlotte and Sascha are hit and miss. I think if they stay within themselves and keep it simple they can have legit 4 star matches if not better, but they try to do too much in the name of building women's wrestling (which I totally get) and they tend to slip on lots of banana peels along the way.

I think you've nailed it. I was a big fan of the NXT work the women did. But NXT is a fish bowl. I don't know if it was Amato no longer agenting their matches, or if it's just because they're exposed on a week-to-week basis, if it's their personalities being diluted, or a combination of all those things, but the women don't need to fire on as complete a level as they did in NXT.

I also think the mixed messages they are sending with equality does subconsciously have an effect on how they are perceived too. On one hand, they are supposed to be as good as the men, but on the other they make a big deal about how they are as good as the men. I compared it to calling a female comedian a "female comedian" in another thread.

From what I've heard, they did a really contrived false injury spot for Sasha prior to actually getting in the cell. This sort of booking isn't exclusive to the women, but it's melodrama to the point of pantomime. Cesaro and Sheamus went 0-3, 3-3, tie. It's very clunky and fans can see the strings -- and that is when they revolt. Sasha getting up off the stretcher exposed the really broad strokes of what they were trying to achieve. The company couldn't have screamed any louder "We are trying to manipulate you!" That's the sort of thing that people still hold against pro-wrestling when they stupidly point out to people "you know it's fake, right?"

They're also trying to get the women to wrestle men's matches. No, I'm not saying that the HIAC is a male gimmick, but they are getting Sasha to fight off paramedics and trainers like she was Steve Austin. She's a cruiserweight playing heavyweight. Let her wrestle like Sasha Banks -- there is an organic style she can work that will connect with people. This match sounds like an overproduced mess, and people want to be kind about it because they think they're being nice, but it's actually condescending to the abilities of the performers.

Lock Jaw 11-01-2016 07:36 PM

Wait a second.... you didn't even see the cell match and you DERIDED Charlotte's work in the match and now saying all this other stuff.......

Man......

You used to be cool......

Mr. Nerfect 11-01-2016 07:49 PM

No, I'm critiquing the work I've seen from her since she's been main roster. I'm responding to the feedback from the cell, which wasn't promoted in a way that made me really want to see it. I was interested in the match in general, but that was my own notions of what the girls could do going in, and not what the company built around them. It can't be that alien a concept to people to hear a song of an artist and decide you don't want to buy the album, or you see a trailer for a movie and think "Eh, I don't really want to see that." I'm sorry if it sounded like I was actually critiquing Charlotte's specific performance in the match. I am responding to her promo on RAW and the reviews her HIAC performance with Sasha has gotten (mixed, which is a shame, since their work was almost universally lauded in NXT).

I quit TPWW forever.

Can't deal with the negative vibes.

Good day, sirs.

Mr. Nerfect 11-01-2016 07:54 PM

Peace. :y:

Mr. Nerfect 11-01-2016 08:01 PM

Honestly, I love you, LJ, but how dare anyone have an opinion on wrestling on a wrestling forum, right?
"Oh, but it's negative."

Well, maybe the product should try being better sometime.

That's it, let's go botch a table spot in the Hell in a Cell together.

Mr. Nerfect 11-01-2016 10:20 PM

But seriously, you've got me thinking about wrestling criticism, which I appreciate. Lately I've been more interesting in responses to the business than the actual product. I might start a thread discussing what is an appropriate objective opinion, if there is one when it comes to such subjective matter, and what is unfounded speculation. At what point can you be assured that Baron Corbin is boring, etc.

Didn't see that until you said it. I thought he looked way too shredded and jagged, but he really does have that Ziggler jaw/dem Dolph eyes.

So they are filming American grit right next to my house. John Cena is here obviously....and everyone in town is going nucking futs over it for no reason. Sheer insanity. Apparently he is staying a few houses down from my parents while they are here for filming. Wonder if my dad is acting like a tard too. Uhg.

So WWE is giving you what you asked for! MORE MORE MORE!

A new cruiserweight show called 205 Live will be on wwe network right after Talking Smack.

MORE IS MORE!

Mr. Nerfect 11-02-2016 04:03 PM

The Network is going to thrive on content, but at some point you have to wonder when the WWE becomes like a needy partner texting too much.

The defunct US news website Gawker has settled a lawsuit won by retired US professional wrestler Hulk Hogan for $31m (£25m).

The privacy case forced Gawker to declare bankruptcy earlier this year, after a jury awarded Mr Hogan $140m over a leaked sex tape.

Mr Hogan's legal bill was paid by tech billionaire Peter Thiel, who said he wanted to curb Gawker's "bullying". Gawker shut down in August following the judgement.

The website, launched in the early 2000s, was known for its acerbic tone and aggressive coverage of celebrities.

The case involved a video posted by Gawker in 2012 after Mr Hogan was secretly recorded having sex with his friend's wife. The settlement was announced on Wednesday in a blog post by Gawker founder Nick Denton, who called the conclusion of the case "a hard peace".

He said the company and staff were confident the appeals process would reduce the judgement against Gawker, but that "all-out legal war would have cost too much, and hurt too many people, and there was no end in sight."

Mr Denton also said that as part of the settlement, three "true stories " would be "removed from the web".

Mr Thiel co-founded PayPal and was an early stakeholder in Facebook.

In a New York Times article in August explaining why he had funded the case, he said his own privacy had been violated when Gawker outed him as a gay man in 2007. Campaign group Reporters without Borders, however, criticised Mr Thiel's "secret" involvement in the case, calling it a "serious threat" to press freedom.

As part of the settlement deal, two other cases against Gawker journalists were also dropped, Mr Denton said in his blog post. He said it was "a settlement that allows us all to move on, and focus on activities more productive than endless litigation."

Mr Denton, who was also held liable along with the journalist who wrote the article, filed for personal bankruptcy following the $140m judgement.

Gawker media also filed for bankruptcy, and shuttered the long-running blog Gawker.com in August.

Its sister sites on the media network - including popular special interest sites Deadspin, Polygon and Jezebel - were acquired by Univision, and continue to operate.

* Becky Lynch (c) vs. Natalya with Bret Hart as Special Guest Referee for the Women's Championship

* Jack Swagger gives an "American Open Challenge" (answered by Cesaro)

* Braun Strowman vs. Sami Zayn

* Brian Kendrick (c) vs. TJ Perkins for the Cruiserweight Championship

* Dolph Ziggler, Heath Slater, Rhyno & The Hype Bros vs. The Miz, The Usos, Kenny & Mikey in an Elimination Match

* The New Day, Enzo & Cass vs. Sheamus, Gallows, Anderson & The Shining Stars in an Elimination Match (Cesaro is forced to sit out by the heels who are one man over)

Sounds like every other PPV.

The beauty of The Network is that you can create these events that are unique, but in itself dont need to draw as a standalone show. The reasoning for scaling back on the Survivor Series matches in the past was that the event was always the weakest of the "big 4". But now you can make this is a special show, and dont have to worry about how many buys it gets. I'm looking forward to seeing some of these guys interact, even though they've only been separated for a few months. Next year when the Series rolls around, it will be even more special.

On top of that it prolongs some of these other programs. We already know the main event for the next PPV, which is the right place to blowoff that program.

I've just found out that Ziggler will be making an appearance in Glasgow before SmackDown next week and I'm curious if I'll be able to make it or not.

I'd imagine in the range of 1-2 hours, but that would just be an educated guess....
