American Hustle was the balls, the hair messing scene right at the start and the quick cut to the choke scene in the car followed by his outfit in the street afterwards are probably the 2 funniest scenes I saw last year
|
9.5
|
Watched The Lone Ranger
6/10 Was okay but far too long really for a Disney film meant for families etc. I really liked Armie Hammer in the title role but thought they tried too hard to push Johnny depp down our throats as tonto. |
White Christmas 7/10
Now You See Me 10/10 The Campaign 6/10 The Wolverine 8/10 |
Elysium 8/10 Stevie Wonder could see the ending coming but still enjoyable.
Grown Ups 2 8/10 Stone Cold was great, Aly Michalka was in a bikini |
Drinking Buddies - 10/10
I am being a tad liberal but I absolutely loved the movie. Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson were excellent. I also loved Jake Johnson's character in the "Safety Not Guaranteed" movie. He touches me on an emotional level. For realzies. |
watched Drinking Buddies a while back because of the reviews and it had somehow snuck past me. Thought it was pretty meh :-\
The Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10 funniest film I've seen for some time, DiCaprio is ridiculously good in it which isn't really surprising nowadays. "The cerebral palsy stage" scene had me crying. |
Watched "Her" earlier on and loved it. Maybe possibly might be the best film I've seen in a while. Dunno, "Gravity", "The Hunt" and "Prisoners" are all way up there too but that's pretty great company for me to be putting "Her" in with.

I'm watching The King of kong right now. How is this not a mockumentary?
|
Steve Wiebe!
|
Her - 8.5/10
deducted .5 for trying to ruin my life |
Scarlett Johansson is sexy as fuck in Her even without being on screen.
|
Seriously though, King of Kong. This is like 10x more ridiculous than Spinal Tap.
|
Only seen a part of it, I thought it WAS a mockumentary?

I don't even know if I really enjoyed it. I guess I did. But every single person in it was too ridiculous.
|
Dallas Buyers Club - very good.
|
Watched Ali G Indahouse while being stoned - 6/10
I can barely remember the movie but I laughed like crazy. |
Django Unchained - 8/10
|
Upstream Color - 6/10
|
Her: 9.5/10
Best movie I've seen in over a year. |
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters - .5/5
Ugh. Why the hell did I watch this. Atleast it went by quick. |
Fruitvale Station - fail/pass.pass
|
Short Term 12 - Brilliant. On a hot run of films right now. 2013 had a lot of greats.
|
Her - 9/10
Pretty good. Thought for sure it was gonna end with the OSes killing all humans, though. Maybe saving it for the sequel. |
American Hustle - 6/10
A little overrated. Great acting by all. Loved Amy Adams' bewbs. |
Don Jon - pass.fail
|
American Hustle - 6.5/10
It was alright. I wasn't really that interested in it, but watched it because of Amy Adams. |
Fast and Furious 6 - pass.fail
Was going to be fail.pass but the post credits scene alone knocks it up a grade Movie (and entire franchise) is so ridiculous though. But good ridiculous. |
The Breakfast Club - 8/10
|
Kick Ass 2 - pass
|
12 Years a Slave - Pretty great. Not my favourite of all the Oscar bate screeners that have come out lately, but def very good.
|
Elysium - pass.fail

Watched the internship
'Twas okay. Something nice to watch on an evening before going back to work the next day. 6/10 |
Kick-Ass 2: I kinda hated it. It couldn't make up its mind on whether it wanted to be a mean-spirited hatchet job of superheroes or a winking "nah, you know we love ya" parody kind of deal, so it just became kind of a mess. "Superhero stories are idiot male power fantasy written by and for delusional man-child losers with a hardon for violence and sexualized young women. Now enjoy this underage girl in a schoolgirl outfit brutally kung fu murdering a room full of gangsters."
|
The Mechanic - 4 out of 5
Liked the small twist at the end. |
Don John 6/10 - decent, but underwhelming considering who was involved
Runner Runner 5.75/10 - see above We're The Millers 7.5/10 - silly, but with enough laugh-out-loud moments to push it into "good" territory White House Down 7/10 - silly, but good action set pieces and good chemistry between the leads RIPD - 6.5/10 - see above, but not as good as WHD |
Kick-Ass 2: 7.5/10
Fun enough. Read the comic book recently, so I figured I'd watch the movie as well. I'd say it is better than the first movie. The comic book definitely does a better job balancing the "comedic/absurd/parody" nature with the "serious/escalating dark drama" bit. One of the most powerful scenes in the comic book is turned into a joke in the movie. |
Her - 9/10
The Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10 Inside Llewyn Davis - 7/10 American Hustle - 7/10 The Act of Killing - 7/10 Dark Horse - 6/10 Clear History - 6/10 To Rome With Love - 6/10 |
Now you see me 8/10
I really enjoyed this one. Guessed the ending but it was fun getting there. |
12 Years a Slave 9/10
The best film I have seen in quite some time. It definitely stays with you. Chiwetel Ejiofor was great, and Michael Fassbender was also fantastic. |
Paul Dano was great as Paul Dano.
|
Fuck, yeah, Paul Dano has been typecast to play those weasely unpleasant roles. Poor sod.
|
Cloverfield - 4 out of 5
|
The Wolf of Wall Street - Really good. Hilarious. Was expecting to not really be into it too much but yeah it's great. Whole dinner scene with Matthew McConaughey and his chanting, the midget ethics meeting and the whole time he was high on the Lemmon pills were all some of the funniest things I've seen in ages.
|
Great Gatsby 7/10
Watched it in 3D, kinda pointless. |
The Rainmaker - 9/10
The Brass Teapot - 2/10 |
Inside Llewyn Davis - dunno, really liked it. Would have maybe liked something a bit more conclusive but yeah, "velly good". Like 7.5/8 maybe
|
The Internship 7/10
Was alright, nothing great, I'd nip the Asian bird though. |
Pain & Gain 7/10
|
2 Guns 7/10
|
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire 8/10
I liked it better than the first one. Felt more "balanced". Plus I liked the fact that they weren't all just going along with it. My main gripe about the series is how a lot of the male actors just look alike. Peeta, Gale, Finnick, and a bunch of the random male extras... all look very similar. Always takes me a minute to perceive who is who when they are on screen... and if it is some sort of fast paced action sequence with quick cuts, forget about it. |
Submarine: 8/10
I don't like coming of the age movies anymore but this is a rare exception along with "The Perks of Being a Wallflower". |
Guru Dave, check out The Spectacular Now. It's a very good coming of age movie.
|
Godfather: Part II - 5 out of 5
Don't remember if I've ever seen the whole movie before. |
her
5/5 |
Watchmen - 4 out of 5
|
Inglorious Bastards - 8/10
|
Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and 2: 4/5
I know they have been out forever, but I didn't care much for Disney stuff and I'm playing catch up. I'm on a huge pirate kick right now, just beat Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, started Black Sails on STARZ and doing a Pirate of the C movie a night until finished. I liked where number 2 left off at, eager to watch 3 tonight or tomorrow. Heard it was good and all. |
I'm a huge fan of the first Pirates of the Caribbean film. The sequels are solid too, but for me, The Curse of the Black Pearl is everything a Hollywood blockbuster should be.
Johnny Depp seemed to like it too seeing as he's essentially been playing Jack Sparrow in every single film he's been in since. |
Didn't realise there was little add on bits at the end like the Marvel films till I played Lego Pirates.

Awesome movie that'd make Tarantino proud... It almost felt like he owns this production. Think of it as Hostel/Fight Club female version. Even would make Ronda Rousey and the UFC women piss their pants on this one. It'll also make Katniss from Hunger Games seemed salvageable in the fights on this too.. No bows and arrows bullshit just pure Cynthia Rothrock-ish MMA fights... https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...77131416_n.jpg 9/10. Blue is the Warmest Color - French lesbo flick.. Erotic sex scenes are almost borderline on Human Centipede-ish eroticism. Other than that, this one has LGBT boner level 10000000000000000 plus all over this movie. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...77131416_n.jpg Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones - Can I say REC-ish plot on this one? 6/10. |
The Croods 7.5/10
Mortal Instruments : City Of Bones 7/10 Lily Collins is far too tidy to be the spawn of Phil. |
I watched Joan of Arc yesterday for the first time (With Milla Jovovich)
Very good film, let down only slightly by the ending which I thought was rushed 7.5/10 |
Nebraska 8.5/10
|
Blue Caprice: 8/10. Hypnotic, excellently edited.
|
American Hustle 6/10
Some great characters/acting, but at least 40 minutes too long. Kinda dragged towards the end, ending with a whimper rather than a bang. |
MITT: 8.5/10
|
CBGB 7.5/10
|
Inside Llewellyn Davis - pass
Her - pass Wolf of Wall Street - pass American Hustle - pass.fail |
The Conjuring - 8/10.
Not really scary, but it was very good and suspenseful. |

The Paperboy - 7/10
|
Hangover Part 3 7/10
|
World War Z 7/10
|
Saving Mr. Banks - 9/10
Reading about it, it isn't so true to reality, but I enjoyed it. Would have liked a bit more at the end, but I guess they didn't want to change even more. |
12 Years a Slave - 4/5
|
Primer - I dunno, strange, I enjoyed it a bit even though I didn't really know what was going on in like 60% of the film.
|
Dallas Buyers Club 8/10
I thought Jared Leto was fantastic in it. He should probably get an Oscar for his performance. |

Underworld: Awakening - 3.5 out of 5
|
Oldboy (American Remake) - 3/5.
Was ok. I'd probably have liked it a whole lot better if it came first, but it didn't so it has to deal with getting compared to the Korean version..... and compared to that version, the American one is "ok". The story is still there, but the Korean version seems more "impactful" with its visuals, and some of the acting/directing choices etc.... |
Just dropping by to say that I haven't seen any new movie in a very long time due to the fact that I have no life.
|
Lego Movie
8/10 |
Lord of the Rings(whatever the first one is subtitled)- 7/10
GF wanted to get me into these movies, and this was ok. I cannot complain. Eventually I'll get to these others. |
They really are just hour long movies about midgets going for a walk. It's a pretty walk I grant you.
|
Thor Dark World - 6.2 out of 10 (A bit better than the first movie but nothing special to me, that train scene was dumb as hell. Had some cool scenes, but eh.)
Elysium- 8/10 Kick Ass 2- 7/10 |
Devil Dog the hound of hell-6/10 OK 70s made for TV horror. Richard Crenna saves the film.
|
Her 8/10
I continue to fall in love with Amy Adams whenever I see her. I don't know what it is. Jack Ryan: shadow Recruit 7/10 |
bad grandpa - 5/10
the shitting on the wall made me laugh pretty hard |
Robocop (2013): 6.5/10, Ridiculous but entertaining enough. Kinnaman was pretty solid in the lead. Too restrained, seemed afraid to go too over the top.

Elite Squad-8.5/10
Really well done Brazilian film about the Bopo. Which is the Police special forces. Last year after a Wildkat Sports show I met 3 Brazilians who are living in New Orleans. And they were kind of surprised that I had seen Elite Squad. Plus told me that the subtitles on it are shit. I know there is a sequel but I have no idea if it has gotten a region 1 release yet. If you like the TV show The Shield check out Elite Squad. As of a few weeks back it was up on Youtube. |
