"Thanks for making us money. Here's all the money you made us"

Brilliant plan.

Destor 08-21-2019 03:36 AM

More reasonable offer would be let sony make movie tie in merch. Full toy line. Whole nine. Strict time window for manufacturing/retail. Sony takes full or at least 80% depending on cross over characters in the film. Then disney can have 30ish% of the back end but disney ponies on 50% of the production.

Disney pays 80 mil sony pays 80 mil. Disney takes around 300 mil off the next film. Sony loses 25% off their last haul but if they can move the merch they stand to make double. Everyone makes more than they were making going in.

Come back in 5-7 and take the temperature from there.

50/50 no merch? Yeah right. Thatll never happen and anyone dumb enough to pen that deal would be fired in a week. Only Disney wins in that offer. Its a ridiculous ask especially when you dont actually hold the cards.

Destor 08-21-2019 03:45 AM

And keep in mind the 50/50 was reported as production. Meaning sony would shoulder the marketing cost. Shit deal.

McLegend 08-21-2019 01:25 PM

I think this deal gets done. No one wants to walk away from a billion dollars.

Destor 08-21-2019 01:36 PM

Disney is walking away from 50 million. Thats what they took from the past 2 films. Its the adjacent branded properties they sell that they can make money off of. Shows, merch, games, etc

Still 50 mil will finance half a production of another title so its better than nothing i suppose

Destor 08-21-2019 01:36 PM

And the next 1-2 spidey films will draw with or without disney at this point.

Kalyx triaD 08-21-2019 04:36 PM

If Sony could nail a Spidey film they'd never need to lend Parker to the MCU in the first place.

Shadow 08-21-2019 05:27 PM

Pretty much. But the deal is not done. Fan backlash on social media has driven Sony back to the table.

Well that and a massive dip their stock took.

RaginRonic 08-21-2019 05:59 PM

I'd not be shocked if Disney just ended up with the whole Spider-Man franchise under their control in the end. Sony doesn't have any more good ideas for it anymore, and it's time for Spidey to move on to much greener pastures.

=P

slik 08-21-2019 07:44 PM

Sony will probably make a superhero team out of Spidey, Venom and like Black Cat or something

Rammsteinmad 08-22-2019 11:01 AM

And I can honestly imagine people being sour on that simply because it's not in the MCU.

Kalyx triaD 08-23-2019 08:12 PM

Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms Marvel announced for Disney+. All confirmed MCU.

ClockShot 08-24-2019 02:44 PM

Kit Harrington cast in the Eternals movie as Dane Whitman.

To be determined if this Dane Whitman is in fact the Black Knight.

Rumors indicate that disney will get 25% of the cut and the production costs are split 50/50. Disney will get no control of additional IPs. Other than disney not giving sony any merchandizing i was pretty spot on. Disney over bid, and then caved.

Destor 09-27-2019 07:21 PM

It also appears that spidey will be appearing in the sony spidey-verse more as time goes on as well. Currently spidey 3 and one unannounced mcu appearance is all thats agreed on though

Lock Jaw 09-27-2019 09:57 PM

I read some "newz" awhile back that said Disney had "lost faith" in Captain Marvel and wanted to put Spider-Man in her next movie in an effort to try to get Captain Marvel to be more "likeable" via interactions with Spidey.....

Destor 09-27-2019 10:22 PM

She needs something to have "cross the isle appeal"

Kalyx triaD 09-28-2019 03:45 AM

There's nothing to 'save', he's allowed to have an opinion. Especially him.

JimmyMess 10-30-2019 06:29 PM

I didn't say he wasn't allowed to have an opinion.

Seanny One Ball 10-30-2019 06:44 PM

Apparently he's allowed to have two completely contradictory opinions about the same thing. One to be a prick, one to say sorry after when people get mad.
Nobody should ever be allowed to get away with that, even if they directed a few good films.

Destor 10-30-2019 07:09 PM

Nice

ClockShot 01-09-2020 08:43 PM

Scott Derrickson drops out as director of Doctor Strange 2 due to "creative differences". But, he's still hanging around as an executive producer.

Well, that's not good. Did a hell of a job with the first movie.

Destor 01-09-2020 08:51 PM

Everyone was worried about antman and its creative differences with directors and its a gem

Lock Jaw 01-09-2020 09:40 PM

Dr. Strange one of the Marvel films I have only ever seen once.... I enjoyed it and it wasn't bad or anything.... just never really felt the urge to watch it again

That's a bit different. Scott's already played ball with the MCU standard whereas Wright didn't see a meta-franchise coming that would force changes. If Scott dropped out, that's pretty unique for the MCU.

if I had to guess, I'd say it has something to do with Feige's recent comments that it's not going to be as horror as initially promised (which I knew was a long shot anyway).

Destor 01-10-2020 11:04 AM

Its the same in the sense tha new directors have come in and its not impacted the final product in a negative way.. at all. Marvel needs to strike out before we treat them like a fimbling dufus.

I felt the same way initially but after two additional viewings I have to admit it is a lot better than I first thought.

So far the only one I can't bring myself to watch again is Captain Marvel.

Lock Jaw 01-16-2020 03:56 PM

I think in addition to Dr. Strange, I haven't watched Black Panther, Ant Man & The Wasp, Captain Marvel, and Thor: Ragnarok again.

I actually really liked Ragnarok and think it was one of the better ones and keep meaning to watch it again..... the rest are enjoyable, just haven't watched them again and don't feel an urge to....

Destor 01-16-2020 07:01 PM

Ive never rewatched any marvel film

Lock Jaw 01-16-2020 07:10 PM

Most of them just aren't that memorable and don't really have the need to..... I'll still go out to see the new "episodes", but don't feel the need anymore to rewatch previous episodes.....

Kalyx triaD 01-17-2020 01:54 PM

I'm lowkey terrified of an MCU without Iron Man and Captain America. Spider-Man could hold the universe on his back provided they expand his corner of the universe past being Iron Boy (which they can't do forever), but even he can't do it alone. Captain Marvel is absolutely not going to inherent the pillar Stark or Cap had with zero charisma, and she's not even necessary for expanding the cosmic sandbox with the Guardians out and about. Shang Chi will probably be bitter sweet in a "should have been an Iron Fist movie" kind of way, and Eternals can go either way since Marvel Studios does have a star maker record with little known characters.

The big test is an Avengers movie without Cap or Stark. Their dual leadership was critical and I fear they're gonna emulate that dynamic with Cpt Marvel and Panther - except not in a million years will they allow their biggest female and black characters have 'beef'.

I dunno. It's just bothered me. I used to be HYPE thinking of the next phase but I'm full of doubt here.

Destor 01-17-2020 02:34 PM

I think thats most of us. Its unproven waters and the general wokeness of the top brands they have left is off putting to many. Spider-Man will in the future revert back to Sony full time (a reality that many havent considered for whatever reason [2023 or so is roughly when this extension will be up]) at which point they are going to need some traction with other characters.

That will need to be the X-men

Lock Jaw 04-21-2020 06:44 PM

Sequel to Venom (which I still haven't watched) is now very subtlety called "Venom: Let There Be Carnage"

Kalyx triaD 04-23-2020 03:30 PM

I have half a mind to skip this movie on the count they didn't use the obvious title, "Maximum Carnage".

ClockShot 07-02-2020 01:19 PM

Marvel grabs the licences for Alien & Predator.

So, a new line of comics is incoming.

Destor 07-02-2020 09:46 PM

That makes xenomorph a disney princess

Shadow 07-03-2020 04:17 PM

Xenomorph's been a Disney Princess since the Fox acquisition.

Fignuts 09-13-2020 07:20 PM

Same person who leaked a bunch of other correct predictions, including the she hulk show, and taskmaster, has said that Disney and marvel have come to a decision on the future of black panther.

They’re going to continue with Black Panther 2, and Shurri will take over the mantle.

Lock Jaw 09-13-2020 08:00 PM

Yeah, that seemed like the most logical path to me....

Destor 09-13-2020 08:11 PM

as far as box office goes recasting is the most logical path but she has a fanbase. hopefully they can grow it

Kalyx triaD 09-13-2020 09:04 PM

I mean yeah, by a couple of thousand years. Totally plausible that the Reed women could have gotten a taste of dark chocolate in that time.

Fignuts 09-15-2020 05:25 PM

First arc of the new Thor comic wrapped up. Cates has massive shoes to fill as Aaron’s run is one of the greatest Thor runs of all time, and my personal favorite.

A couple things irked me, but overall really enjoyable. I hope Thor having to make more hard choices as king and realizing why his father was the way he was, is something they explore even more in the future.

Nic Klein’s art is astonishing. To the point where I feel like he was born to draw this book.

The Wanavision trailer is the first time I've watched a comic book movie trailer and had absolutely NO idea what was going on. But I'm super excited.

Fignuts 09-22-2020 05:12 PM

Wanda’s powers revolve around altering reality. The working theory is that her grief over Vision pushes her powers to new levels and she’s creating this new reality without even realizing it.

Destor 09-22-2020 06:16 PM

I hope the arc for her is she does a reverse house of m and creates mutants

Destor 09-22-2020 06:16 PM

over the course of this phase, not the 1st season of the show

Kalyx triaD 09-23-2020 02:32 PM

I'd be fine if the MCU goes TV from now on. Longer stories and more variation.

That's a good idea. They should steal it.

Fignuts 09-23-2020 10:18 PM

It’s an interesting idea.

I kinda want them to really shake things up though and have Scott and Emma as headmasters with Xavier having died already. I’m not sure if that would fit in well with destor’s pitch.

My idea was that mutants have been around all this time but Fury and SHIELD have kept it it quiet to avoid fear and panic, and helped get new mutants to the school. In return, the X-men do some occasional black ops missions for shield.

Lock Jaw 09-23-2020 10:47 PM

I wonder if SHIELD ever appears again....

Fignuts 09-23-2020 10:54 PM

I think the project Fury is working on in space, is going to be SWORD.

They could bring back SHIELD or leave it dead. The people within shield, like Coulson and Fury were always more important to the story than the organization itself.

Kalyx triaD 09-24-2020 08:54 AM

MCU Phase 4 basically pushed back a year.

Kalyx triaD 09-24-2020 06:23 PM

She aight. 7/10

Fignuts 09-25-2020 04:44 AM

I didn't even know about this until today. A Daimon Hellstrom show, completely unconnected to the MCU. You probably don't even know who that is.

Fignuts 10-03-2020 02:10 AM

Jamie Foxx is apparently reprising his role as Elektro for the next MCU spider-man movie.

So that's a thing.

Destor 10-03-2020 02:29 AM

the writing was the issue not foxx

Fignuts 10-03-2020 02:45 AM

Oh no, I'm not saying it's a bad thing.

There are a lot of implications with it though.

On one hand it could just be Foxx wanting to reprise a role he enjoyed doing and nothing more. But given we do know Marvel is exploring the ideas of a multiverse, it could end up being something crazy. Like, maybe Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire showing up too?

Destor 10-03-2020 02:55 AM

theres dwf going to be some multiverse shenanigans coming in spidey films since they will be disconnecting it from the mcu in the next 3-4 years

Kalyx triaD 10-03-2020 04:02 AM

Fucking mess, tbh.

McLegend 10-04-2020 09:00 PM

Lock Jaw 10-13-2020 03:33 PM

Fignuts 10-13-2020 05:15 PM

Lock Jaw 10-13-2020 06:58 PM

Rumours that they are looking to cast Miles Morales as well

Kalyx triaD 10-14-2020 12:04 AM

Between Sony's vanity project, MCU's sudden interest in multiverses, and Raimi's rumored stealth Spidey 4 ploy this mess could transcend being an MCU movie.

Fignuts 10-14-2020 12:14 AM

As long as the MCU movie is good, they can make as much of a mess outside of it as they want. I really don’t give a fuck.

Blonde Moment 10-21-2020 06:24 PM
