The Children - 6/10

Standard.

Loose Cannon 09-09-2009 12:11 PM

Taxi Driver. 7/10

I really had a hard time coming up with a number for this one. Like I was saying in the "Better Movie" thread, there's really nothing wrong with the movie. It's just not my kind of movie. It's very slow and drawn out and I found myself bored a few times. The directing, acting and story were all great, but the pace killed it for me. I can't believe Jodie Foster was like 13 years old in real life there. That seems crazy to me that she was doing that role.

schwarzenegger kicking satan's ass. Aside from Terminator, I think this is one of the better Schwarzenegger movies.

(500) Days of Summer - 6/10

Vastardikai 09-11-2009 10:04 PM

9 - 4/5 (great, but could have been longer.)

Exyle 09-11-2009 10:23 PM

The X Files - I Want to Believe: 7.5/10

Was a huge fan of the show. Someone who wasn't would probably score it lower.

Confused 09-12-2009 05:30 AM

Grizzly Man - 10/10

Brilliant documentary by Werner Herzog. It's even better than his documentary on the actor and mentalist, Klaus Kinski.

Jeritron 09-13-2009 12:39 AM

Wanna see this, love Joseph Gordon Levitt

Jon Kano 09-13-2009 03:14 PM

It was really good. And he is pretty awesome, gotta love Brick too, you seen that?

Jon Kano 09-13-2009 03:15 PM

The Killing Room - 5/10 - good idea, kinda poorly executed and pretty much saw the ending coming with him not escaping/being continued.

Mr Regal 09-14-2009 11:26 AM

Final destination 3D - 1/10

God awful piece of shit movie.

Inglorious Basterds - 8/10

Yeah, for sure, loved Brick

Slumdog Millionaire 8/10

ClockShot 09-15-2009 08:10 PM

X-Men Origins: Wolverine 3.5/5

Not bad, but why make a movie about a mutant's backstory, when we comic geeks know the backstory beforehand? Mark out moment when Patrick Stewart arrived on Airwolf.

Props to Will.i.am and his acting. Damn fine job. Better than Taboo's work in Street Fighter.

PorkSoda 09-15-2009 09:27 PM

I'm not a comic book geek....so I didn't know about any backstory. Plus, I didn't like the X-Men movies, but Wolverine I actually liked. I'd like to buy it on DVD.

The Incredibles - 8/10. 85%. Pass.Pass.Fail. 4/5. However you want to rate it, the movie was incredible.

Loose Cannon 09-16-2009 12:06 AM

Wolverine: X-men origins. 2/10

Wow, were they kidding here? It's like they wrote an action movie and didn't have any characters so they just said "let's take some X-men characters and throw them in." Each X-men movie has gotten worse and worse since the first one and this one takes the cake. They just totaly raped X-men all together. I think they just threw Gambit in this movie to shut up all the people who have been wanting him forever. Deadpool was a joke. We have a mutant that can turn on lightbulbs or some shit. ugh, just horrendous booking

The Genius 09-16-2009 12:58 AM

mitch_h 09-17-2009 10:29 PM

Some movies I caught at the Toronto Film Festival.

Baaria - Ugh horrible movie, didn't really want to see this, but my girlfriend and I always try to see one movie together at the festival and this was the best looking movie we could work around our schedules. Plus I thought Giuseppe Tornatore was a pretty competent director, despite finding Cinema Paradiso kinda overrated. Don't feel like talking about it. 3/10

Life During Wartime - New Todd Solondz movie, kind of a quasi sequel to Happiness although every character has been recast. Found it kinda underwhelming seeing as most critics seem to have gotten back on the Solondz bandwagon. However, there are a some really good scenes and I love Solondz dark comedy and sympathy for outsiders, I especially loved Trish's zionist love prospect and his neurotic son. A lot of it felt like Solondz doing the same shit though, housewives don't understand the complexity of terrorism, awkward conversations between adults and children yada, yada, yada. Not nearly as funny, poignant, or as audacious as Happiness. 7/10

My Son, My Son What Have Ye Done - A David Lynch, Werner Herzog collaboration is any film buffs dream come true, too bad they couldn't have come to together to make a better film. It's about a mentally unstable man who kills his mother with a sword, then locks himself in his house with hostages. Quirky and weird with some good moments, but not nearly as good as it could have been, the actual hostage scenes were boring and dumb. Herzog did a Q&A session afterwards, so that was kinda cool. 6/10

PorkSoda 09-19-2009 12:13 AM

Duplex - 5/10.

I actually enjoyed this....

Exyle 09-19-2009 12:17 AM

Religulous - 7/10

Quite funny, but nothing really "original" being said.

I love Werner Herzogs' films and documentaries. Looking forward to seeing this.

He is also the only reason i'm going to see a film featuring Nicholas Cage again.

Not as hilarious as I expected it to be. Much more of a serious movie.

I agree with Woo Woo Woo. Although I'll go 7.3/10

Jon Kano 09-21-2009 12:13 AM

Year One - 4.5/10

David Cross was the funniest in the movie.

Any bets they make a 'Year Two' and its double as bad.

DaveWadding 09-21-2009 07:02 PM

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - 7/10

I wanted to enjoy it (and if I were on drugs I really would have) but it fell flat to me.

Ol Dirty Dastard 09-21-2009 07:05 PM

Old Boy 9.5/10---- holy shit. Crazy ass Korean movie, blue my fucking mind. Was like shakespeare and greek tragedies on crack.

2/10

An extra point for the animation quality, but the movie was horrible. Can't believe I was so bored in a roughly 75 minute long movie. When it ended, I was both angry and relieved.. Angry because I was like "THAT'S how they're going to end it?" and relieved because it was over finally.

PorkSoda 09-21-2009 11:21 PM

9 - 6/10.

Nah, it was good. It was a bit out there....like...what are the characters supposed to be? It reminded me of a cross between Beowulf and Wall-E. Beowulf because it's characters fighting against some....thing (machine) and Wall-E because it takes place in a similar world and I felt it didn't really need dialogue. IDK, I don't feel like making sense right now....animation was great.

Spaceballs - 8/10.

Seen this a while back, just watched it again. Friggen hilarious.

The Hangover - 9.5/10 - Funniest movie I've seen in a long time.

Had a few funny parts, but overall I was a little disappointed in this movie.

I will second this rating and review

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies - 5/5

I'm biased here, maybe a solid 4 but I've been waiting to hear Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy say these lines for years.

Role Models 6/10 - Pretty good. I finally liked Paul Rudd in a movie. The middle portion was slow though, but overall much better than the trailers made it out to be.

The Outsiders. 10/10

Never saw this until Swayze died so I rented it. Good flick.
